from the outside this restaurant looks inviting and full of promise but the food and service are dreadful. Food was poor quality and rip off price we ordered chorizo in brandy which was sliced cheap supermarket stuff without a whiff of brandy as was the manchego cheese. The bread was cheap & nasty spongy brown Calamari was sent back as onions were raw and dish was unseasoned. Waitress ‘educated’us by claiming that squid was fresh and certain times of year didnt take seasoning well. Really?.. thank you for that tip! Patatas bravas were frozen potato wedges with a side pot of disgusting tomato purée to dip oin. The waitress clomped and banged her way through serving customers. Read a news paper at the bar. While preparing a coffe order(for the brave) rubbed her hands inside the cups, rammed her hands in the busicuit jar & threw them onto a saucer followed by a sloppy cup of coffee which had dribbles down the side & slops in saucer — nice. We were then joined by two of the kitchen staff and a child who was running a mock, in the middle of the restaurant who proceeded to have a loud conversation with the waitress with no consideration of the paying lunchtime dinners. Had it not been for the Spanish music(which was turned off before we finished eating as waitress wanted to go home) I would have thought I was eating in a transport café. Furthermore I have looked at their website today and the prices quoted on-line on their menu are not correct! you will be charged more in the resturant. This typically reflects the owners attitude to their customers along with the calibre of staff they employ to serve us. This is the worst resturant in Hastings. Please do not spend your hard earned pennies here!

This is going to be another good review. I must be going soft. Harris’ Tapas bar can be found in the Old Town district of Hastings. In general, the Old Town area of Hastings is far more pleasant than Regular Town, sporting better pubs, better restaurants and(sometimes) better people! Harris’ fits nicely into this scheme. Our trip to Harris’ followed an afternoon of drinking which, I hear you say, should really end with a curry, not Tapas, however as we were feeling a little bit experimental, and I had never been, we decided to go for it. They have a pretty standard tapas menu with most dishes costing between £3.50 and £6. We opted for the ‘Feast for two’ for £25 which works out as quite a money saver. You get more than enough for two people and includes meat, fish and vegetable dishes. The service was good, in fact, we were there about twenty minutes before it opened, but they still let us in, thankfully, as it packed out very quickly. I would comment on the drinks selection, however due to excessive intoxication, i cannot remember any of it. Saying, ‘Wine’ repeatedly rings a bell, then hearing the word, ‘White?’, then nodding, is how that part of the meal went down. All in all, a very good experience.

The food here is really, really good. The service can be a little unpredictable though. Several times when I’ve been in we’ve waited an hour for food. The location is perfect, just in the old town near to some of the town’s best bars. I’d definitely advise that you book ahead as this place gets really busy at the weekend. Go for the set menu of tapas for two to share to get the variety. The seafood dishes are fab.
