This place was on our list to visit, and with a love of meatballs and all things Yorkshire I was more than excited when we finally got to go in this weekend.
Now I’m not sure if it’s because I was expecting so much, or whether we didn’t choose the right options, but, unfortunately, I was quite underwhelmed.
The first thing that seemed pretty obvious, is that when you’re serving something as simple as «a meatball», you need to do ‘said meatball’s well. They were fine, but a little dry and if I hadn’t had the onion gravy (which was delicious might I add) i don’t think I would have finished them. Definitely not something to write home about.
The menu is also huge which I think is part of the reason why some of the quality had been lost on their food. Not only were there options of meatballs, but sauces, sides, sliders, subs, beds (e.g for your meatballs to sit on), festive menus, nibbles, classic specials, the list goes on. It was all quite confusing and I personally think unnecessary. I would have preferred less options so that they could really make each meatball as magical as I wanted.
I don’t want to sound like a negative Betty, because the staff were super lovely, and I liked the place inside. But surely the clue should be in the name?

Quirky idea and some lovely menu options. I chose traditional Yorkshire meatballs with an onion gravy and a bed of greens (The meals also came with a Yorkshire pudding). If you’re really hungry I would recommend a starter as the mains are not huge. However, everything was delicious, nicely cooked and well presented.
The restaurant also stocked a nice selection of Yorkshire ales which was a nice touch.
Service was slow but I think they might have been caught out by an unusually busy Tuesday evening. They would have sold a few more beers had they monitored tables and seen when our glasses were empty. I also think the staff could be a bit more punchy and enthusiastic– sell me some food and tell me how good things are! (Especially the cheesecake balls for pud– amazing!)
I would definitely recommend this restaurant due to the good food and pleasant atmosphere.
