A fantastic little bar situated above a retro/antique/pop culture shop in the very cool town of Harrogate. You can probably tell by the name that it’s slightly Bowie influenced and there’s definitely a retro vibe throughout, with nods to the 60’s and 70’s throughout — the entire aesthetic looks like it was done on a budget but this is one of the cool things about it, it reminds me a lot of the early days ‘Common’ in Manchester when everything was flung together using ply wood and borrowed furniture. The craft beer selection is simply awesome — amazing choice on tap and bottle and the food menu is simplistic, but decent. We had the charcuterie board which was nice(check out my snaps) and they specialise in pizza. Just be careful if you’re hungry though — a 35 min wait for our food when half busy… not sure if they have more staff usually but did seem to be a bit excessive when it comes to putting some bread, meat and cheese on a board. Looking forward to heading back here at night as supposedly a really good joint in the evening. *Kids and pet(I take it dog, not snakes, bats etc) friendly*

One of my favourite bars to visit in Harrogate. We were fortunate enough to be staying in the travelodge opposite Major Tom’s on our first visit to Harrogate, as we could have possibly walked past it if we hadn’t have been, due to the fact it sits above a selection of vintage shops. But if you follow the stairs up to this café/bar, it transforms into a retro-feeling, huge bar. With old fashioned sofas, 70’s lamps and pacman arcade games galore, it really has a cosy feeling in such a big venue. Great for groups, but cuddled up on a sofa, my boyfriend and I felt snug as a bug playing dominos and connect four. Although I lost both games, it couldn’t stop me from loving this place. To try really hard to find any faults, I just wished it had a wider selection of ciders– then it would be perfection! We unfortunately didn’t have time to sample their pizzas, but they also looked(and smelled) amazing. A definite must if you’re visiting Harrogate!

This place sits on the top floor of a great cluster of shops on(in) The Ginnel. There is Harrogate Fine Wine, Space– A vintage and antiquey shop on the ground floor and yet another record stall has newly opened where Wall Of Sound was next to Major Tom’s. On to Major Tom’s. They have a fantastic selection of Yorkshire and beyond craft beers and real ales. The pizza is amazing. Thin crust and oh so tasty. You can make it as healthy as you want or not. Plenty to look at with magazines, board games, and what appears to be a garage(car boot) sale in the middle with lots of vintage and pop art items. Also loads of screened gig posters for sale. No one could ever claim to be bored in this place. You may as well fill up on incredible pizza and have a beer or two. This place is ACE!

What a find this is and what an asset it is to the Harrogate bar culture… Really friendly people in here and a casual and laid back attitude you rarely find. The place is very relaxed — big sofas which are well comfortable, board games to amuse yourself and your friends, and smiling staff behind the bar. What’s more the range of beer is excellent and changes all the time. If you like good craft beer Major Tom’s is already somewhere to consider. But chuck in what must rate as some of the best pizza in the whole of Harrogate you have a bar that’s worth seeking out. They have a proper pizza oven in this place which makes a hell of a difference. Also available are an ever-changing menu of stews and such like. It’s rustic, simple food but very well made and really tasty. In the same building is the wonderful Space retro shop with all manner of old nik-naks to look at. There is also Wall of Sound — a really good 2nd hand and collectible music store, plus a great wine shop right downstairs. Check it out — lots of fun!
