The Chequers, Bishop Monkton, North Yorkshire Had lunch here with friends. Good points are that there is a very good choice of food at really affordable prices and delicious looking creamy desserts. Bad point is that food quality is sometimes poor. My loin of pork in mushroom sauce was small bits of fairly tough pork that appeared to be left over from a carvery and my friend’s cheese cake was all cream and little taste.

Service was good: polite and very efficient. Wide range of fresh food(soup and sandwich-y) at a reasonable price.

DONOTRECOMMEND. I’ve come to this gourmet deli since last summer, and enjoyed many things I’ve tried. Its been a little while since I’ve come back but unfortunately I’m disappointed in what I found. I brought my girl friend to experience this neat little deli with a great story, but was so infuriated with the service that we left before ordering. When we stood before the ordering counter(with no one behind us) my girl friend was shushed mid sentence and told to sit down. We were visibly put off, but complied, and ultimately decided that the there are plenty of good sandwich shoppes that would love our business. When we got up to leave, the grumpy old behind the counter gave a smug grin and murmured, «alright then.» REALLY? HOWRUDE! We are trying to figure out why we were treated so poorly and the only conclusion we can ascertain is that we weren’t wearing our sunday best,(people dress fairly well in Harrogate) only hoodies and jeans. Even so, this is not the sort of place I want to support, or recommend to anyone else. Try Weeton’s Café instead!

Nice friendly people with sandwich combinations you just wouldn’t normally find. It’s the only place I have had a sandwich which contained proper cooked salmon. Decent coffee too with tables to sit at.
