I hear this pub is under threat, which is a shame. It is a charming little pub and served me by far the best beer of my day in Guildford, when it paired me with Goldmark Red IPA
There are numerous pump clips on the wall and there is a collection of books to browse too, including my favourite the ‘World Cheese Book’.

This small pub has a gorgeous atmosphere with tons of character. The food is very cheap, especially considering the quality and quantity provided.
Steak is where the reputation of the pub lies, and there is definitely a reason for this! All steaks are 6oz and come with either chips or salad. They also offer doubled up and tripled up options (all at very reasonable prices).
Unfortunately, it must be said that a few of the steaks we ordered were not cooked to specification, and so were sent back to be re-​cooked, however even after this the steaks were still not cooked… Extra chips and free steaks were given, so this was not a problem (provided you have surplus time).
By far the highlight of the experience was the service. The waiter was extremely polite and helpful, especially as he was the only person out front (taking orders, and serving foot and drinks by himself). Credits to him.
Highly recommended, and definitely will return.

Small and friendly with FIVE CASK ALES. Yup, count’em. Watching the boss show the new gal how to pull a proper pint, brought a tear to my eye.
Mostly locals. Good tunes from the internet juke box (aka good taste abides)

its not tht long been taken over, and has been revamped, offensive language has 2 be kept 2 a minimum unless obvisiously wen sport is on as it cant be helped, food is amazing as its from higginson’s up in the lake district, a huge range of wine spirits n lagers great atmosphere 2boot aswell

I went here with some friends as we love live bands and this is supposed to be one of the best music pubs in Guildford. It is quite dark inside with red walls but it was really grubby. We sat down at a table which was dirty and there was pieces of food on the floor around us. The bar was also wet and dirty and you couldnt rest your arms on it. We were drinking from bottles but I did see a few people complaining about dirty glasses and people saying the beer was off. The band was really good but I just felt very uncomfortable being in there. I am not a fussy girl but this place was a bit too grubby for me.

Went there last week to listen to some music. It is a little on the rough side which is fair enough, but the beer seemed to be off. Tried three different beers but they were all tasteless. It seems to be a locals only pub but did fill up a bit when the band came on. People were enjoying themselves but I heard a few others complaining about the beer. Maybe just a one off.

Bit of an odd one i’ve got to say. If your a posh Surrey chap this isnt the place for you. If your a bit of a free-​loving hippy you’ll probably enjoy it here. Full of characters, but really its a locals pub — not recommended for a quiet drink.
