Nook has a good advertise campaign but actually their kennel is understaffed and their policy is very unfair for the customers. They close after 1pm during weekends and all bank holidays. It sounds like fair business hour, right? but think about this, these are the times when people are going on holiday and need them most. Despite the inconvenience for the customers, their staff and managers are off duty and there is no holiday and weekend shifts, which means only minimum care is given to the animals. We came to the kennel at 2pm on Saturday and found only one girl was there. We paid for our dogs to be taken care of during all the days they are staying in the kennel. If their staffs are also on holidays, we don’t know what kind of care our dogs are getting. Nook has 48 kennels. All needs daily cleaning; all dogs need to be walked, regularly visited and fed. As an owner of 2 dogs, I found it hard to believe that one person is enough for all 48 kennels. If a hotel cuts their staffs and service to the minimum during holidays no customers will go to them but why it is okay for the dogs&cats’ hospitality business? Because dogs and cats don’t talk. This is very sad. So a bit of advice to you, if you missed their 1pm ‘office hour’ when you come back from your holiday, you will have to separate from your pets for another day knowing no one is looking after them and pay for that extra day. If that is not heartbroken enough, the only staff there will tell you that you cannot get your pets or see them and you should manage to go there again when their manager is back on duty. Other things that show their lack of care: According to Animal Boarding Establishments Act 1963, ‘clients must be encouraged to provide each dog with its own bedding, bowls, grooming materials etc. These items must be cleaned regularly to prevent cross-infection.’ However, the clients’ pet beds and harnesses are not accepted in Nook. Nook uses the choke collars. It is the least human type. It chokes animals so it is easier for the kennel staff to control. Ours is the normal rear-attaching harness. When the manager returned our dog, she didn’t even know how to use it. For a kennel professional, that was pretty embarrassing.
