Now, I was sure I had already given this bar a fairly favorable review, which, after last week’s experience was getting rewritten. To say the service was poor would imply there had in fact been any service. It, admittedly, was a busy Saturday, but we were served at the bar almost immediately. We enquired about food and the pleasant barman gave us menus and invited us to take a seat upstairs as our orders would be taken at the table. We sat for over half an hour and not one member of staff came near our side of the balcony. Leftovers remained at the table behind us the entire time we were there, and a table of customers sat waiting on their bill, jackets on to drop the hint that they wanted to leave, for about quarter of an hour till they went downstairs and searched for someone to take their money. I personally would have walked out! If you’re not interested in serving me I’m not going to beg to pay my bill. Needless to say after finishing our pints, which we had intended on having with some food, we left to dine elsewhere. Still, no staff acknowledged us. Poor show!

This is quite a cool little bar, hidden down Drury Street in Glasgow’s city centre. It has a relaxed vibe, casual but not especially hipster and quite friendly. It’s set up a bit like a retro Italian/American diner, with lots of tables squeezed in across three floors — there are plenty of places to sit but I’m sure that when it gets busy it will really feel busy. There’s a full bar with a good selection of beers and I was also informed that they have prosecco on tap. A slightly odd choice perhaps, but Yesbar does trade on gimmicks a little — another example of this is that they offer pizza by the meter. Hey, no one ever said all gimmicks were bad. Not being hungry enough to consume an entire meter of pizza I went for a regular sized one, as did my partner. I chose the Four Seasons and he chose the Parma and Parmasan. Both were good, with crisp, thin bases and flavoursome toppings, although my partner felt they were perhaps slightly over-enthusiastic with the rocket on his. Service was great too, I felt like all the staff really wanted everyone who came through the door to feel really welcome. It looks like they have comedy and music nights sometimes and I’d definitely come back to see what those are like.

I got the mozzarella balls and the Texan BBQ pizza. The pizzas are hand rolled and absolutely perfect! Just had a plain orange juice to drink so cant comment on any other drinks or cocktails but everything seemed reasonably priced especially for city centre Glasgow. It was my first time in yesbar but the atmosphere was very nice and I will definitely be back.

I’ve been to Yesbar quite a few times(also when it was cald Vespar) and it’s quite a hard venue to fault. Can be easily missed(up a side alley off Renfield street, near the Horseshoe bar). I’ve never been to the comedy evenings(heard mixed reviews) but the food and drinks are very good. The first time I went, I tried the footlong pizza(shared!) which was delicious. Pizza was cooked very well, though the toppings weren’t outstanding, still very tasty. The antipasti on offer is brilliant, great selection of cured meats. The bar has a good selection of drinks, and the service is warm and friendly. The bar and restaurant areas are quite a bit on the small side, making it very difficult to find a seat on busier days. When it’s not too busy, Yesbar is a good place to head for a few drinks or a casual meal.

Yesbar is what I would describe as ‘a safe bet’. I’ve never had a bad night in here and it always has a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, regardless of your political leanings! I’ve tried their pizzas in the past and from what I remember they were pretty tasty. They are also usually on Groupon/Itison so always keep an eye out for vouchers. They also used to have a Facebook deal for ½ price bottles of prosecco so give them a like too! They have a pretty standard mix of drinks; some decent beers on tap, plenty of house and premium wines and spirits. They also make some very lovely looking cocktails! Only thing to look out for at Yesbar is that it can get very busy at weekends so plan accordingly.

New Years Eve was probably not the best time to visit a bar for the first time but I was still very impressed despite it being a bit quieter than what I presume to be a normally busy little place! What I liked about Yes bar is that its just quite cool! I love the balcony seating upstairs which as an occasional ‘people watcher’ means I can see what’s going on below… and still remain attentive to my other half! There was some good beer options available but having just had a very large chinese meal, I wasn’t up for sampling them all… but a pint of Belhaven went down well quickly followed by a cheeky Prosecco. Staff were attentive too and I was served quickly on arrival at the bar. They even brought round free pizza, chips and bruscetta to keep the punters happy and relatively sober… good show guys! I’m now really looking forward to going back on a ‘normal’ night and feeling the love once again! A big ‘Yes’ to Yesbar…

Great bar, and somewhere that I’d been wanting to have a proper drink in for ages, only having ever attended a couple of events in the basement bar. We went there for a few drinks on Hogmanay, after a big meal nearby. You never know quite what you’re going to get in a Glasgow bar on Hogmanany… What we got was a pleasant atmosphere, some absolutely brilliant tunes, and a good selection of drinks to choose from. We got a seat upstairs on the mezzanine, which was perfect for relaxing and people-watching. There were a few other couples and groups in, and the vibe was very good-natured. Staff were excellent and we got served quickly every time. I noted that they have a fair range of gins — and all the ones that I could see were Scottish. There was Makar, The Botanist, Blackwoods, Rock Rose, Bathtub, Caorunn, Edinburgh Gin, and a few others that I didn’t quite recognise. They had a small selection of beers on draught, including Bellhaven Stout, which I love, but no way was that going to fit into my tummy that evening. They also have Prosecco on draught — into which they popped a raspberry. Well, it was a special occasion! We were a couple of drinks in when they started to bring round trays of pizza, bruschetta and chips — free! What a lovely touch! And very responsible, given that the general tradition on Hogmanay is to just get absolutely blootered. I thought that was really nice of them. Sadly we had to move on, but I felt very cosy and comfortable in Yesbar, and could have stayed there all night. Another time, definitely.

I like that they changed their name to Yesbar — Red Tories out! Loving the atmosphere, the 50% off Prosecco(sign up for email notifications) and the late night Comedy action. Great for a Saturday afternoon drink, even better for a pizza snack and entertainment on throughout the night. Not the cheapest place, but if you’ve got a Sumo Card they have some great deals. Even better get a Yescard(loyalty card). If you’re in the City Centre of Glasgow get your sweet ass into Yesbar you won’t be disappointed.

It has been quite a while since I visited this place. In fact the last time I did it was called Vespbar and I had a great(long) pizza and enjoyed my visit. On Saturday we were out for the day and we decided to give it a try again. It has recently taken the bold step of calling itself Yes bar and it was absolutely mobbed with people who had been at a recent Yes Scotland rally in George Square. The place was buzzing with a great atmosphere and we were yet we were still lucky enough to get a seat. On tap they had 45 lager and 45IPA. The staff were very friendly and dealt with the busy bar very well. I like this place, I think the layout out is good and if you get a seat you could stay for ages. I ain’t had food here for ages, so can’t judge 100% but in the past I enjoyed their pizzas and the food coming out on Saturday looked great. Nice bar and worth a look for a pint or ten if your in the area.

My boyfriend and I decided to have a spontaneous night out for drinks, dinner and a bit of comedy. Having been to The Stand, we decided we might try the Yesbar for something a little different. I pre-purchased tickets for the comedy show online and booked a table for dinner just before the show. When we showed up, the place was already hoppin’ with people out for the night. We went to the bar, ordered some drinks(thistle cross cider!!) and let the manager know we had arrived for dinner. We were led upstairs to the restaurant area of the bar, which wasn’t anything like how I imagined. On their website, the made it seem like the décor was that of old fashioned italian, but i really didn’t get that vibe. It was super dark in the restaurant area as you can see by the one drink picture I managed to get, but alas, we were there and we were excited. I had heard that their pizzas were pretty tasty, so we went ahead and ordered the New Yorker pizza, the anti-pasti plate to share and a portion of chips. To be honest, the pizza was pretty gross. It made me desperate for my boyfriends homemade pizza. The dough was a bit raw and tasted like a flour tortilla. The toppings were generously applied but I could have done with a bit more cheese. The anti-pasti platter was big, but was basically a bunch of cold cuts slapped on a place, two wee bits of different cheeses, a few slices of bread and some olives. For £5, it was ok, but we probably wouldn’t order it again, as it was a bit too much for what we had already ordered. The chips, however, were super tasty and crisp to boot. I’m quite glad we ended up ordering them! After ordering a few more drinks, we ended up leaving the bar all together before the comedy show to get away from some rather rowdy patrons that were sitting just behind us. When we came back for the comedy show, we headed down stairs and were the first ones to arrive(at about 15 minutes to show time). Turns out, only about 15 people showed up for the show, most of them coming in mid way through– maybe to miss the first few acts?! I’m not sure how the comedy club makes money, unless for some reason they get more patrons in on other nights. The first few acts were painfully dull, but the headliner, Landry out of Atlanta via Canada, was amazing. He ended up doing an extra long set to try out some new stuff on us. it was worth it. It made up for the fact that the rest of the show was just meh. Even though the food was pretty mediocre and the comedy was a bit better than that, I’m sure we’ll be back! There’s a cool vibe in the bar, given after the referendum they changed their name from Vespbar to Yesbar, you just have to check it out.

Yesbar, formerly Vespar, is one of those places that’s easy to miss as it’s tucked down a side street. I’d always wanted to go and the Glasgow Comedy Festival was the perfect excuse — they were offering lunch time sessions of comedy & pizza for £10pp. We booked and headed along. First up, the comedy is the room downstairs. I’d rather sit in the space in the night time rather than on a sunny day but that’s ok. It can be a bit crowded between the tables so once you’re seated, you’ll probably want to stay there. There was a selection of pizzas included in the ticket price and we were pretty chuffed we got a pizza each rather than one to share between us. Service was efficient and friendly, and our pizzas arrived quickly. I got gourmet chicken and it was pretty damn delicious. I couldn’t fault it. Unfortunately, the comedy was pretty dire and it was a relief when it was over and we could escape upstairs. The bar was pretty quiet for a Sunday afternoon but we had a couple of drinks just so we could properly check out the space. It’s got a cool vibe and generally I’d say it is pretty welcoming(regardless of your political persuasion). I’d definitely head back for more pizza and drinks in the future.

Always somewhere that I fancied visiting, Yesbar was always a place that I had managed to miss. We rectified this by getting a £10 pizza and comedy deal as part of the Comedy Festival. While the comedy wasn’t that great I’m pleased to say that the bar itself was well worth a visit. If you like a good pizza you’re in luck, as the one I had was pretty good. It’s one of the thin style pizzas, topped full with cheese and with generous bits of pepperoni. It’s by no means a gourmet pizza, but it certainly does the job. We were both in the downstairs stage area and the main bar. Both are nice places to spend time in; the upstairs area is all black tiles, retro posters and Vespa themed stuff(in line with it’s old name), while the downstairs area has a decent sized state area with its own bar. It’s definitely not a place that wears its political leanings on its sleeve — if it wasn’t for the name you would have no idea that it’s pro-independence. It was relatively quiet when we were there, and it was a nice place to sit and chill out for a bit. There is a decent selection of beers, and they even have their own Yes Lager brewed by Bellhaven(I think). While it may not take over from Stereo as my favourite bar in this area, it’s still a good place to go for a drink and a good tasting unpretentious pizza. Whether you get good comedy however may be a bit more up in the air!

I had never been into Vespbar, and only had my attention fully drawn to it when it, in a very bold move, changed its name to the Yesbar during September 2014. Visited with some friends from work shortly after that particular event and it was grand. Couldn’t believe I hadn’t been in before! Because aside from the alliances it made during the referendum, and all politics laid to rest, it’s just a really nice bar and restaurant. The staff are friendly, and it looks like a proper old 50s American pizzeria. The food was great, as many have mentioned before me, they do Prosecco on tap, and on this particular Sunday for some reason they were giving out the first pint of beer for free. Can’t promise this is a regular event but it sure got us hooked. All in all, seems a very friendly place, was nice to chill out in after work, and we stayed hours after we said we were gonna go home… and got drunk on a school night! Would return, eagerly!

Like many others, I one of the first thing to lure me in was the Prosecco on tap(currently £5 a glass, which is sadly not mentioned on the webpage) and then I stayed for the pizza and optimistic theme. And there’s also the cocktails. Basically, this place is just wonderful. I hadn’t visited until this September but had been meaning to do so for awhile. I’ve now been in twice for pizza and another time just for drinks. If it tells you anything, I like it enough where I’ve decided to make it where I’ll celebrate my birthday this year. I’ll start on the pizza. It’s amazing! The crust is nicely thin and is available with a nice variety of toppings. They don’t do a two for one pizza deal like Bier Halle, but the pizza is more reasonably priced(the two for one tends to just mean I can’t justify going with an odd number of people). You can also buy it by the metre, which is fantastic for a group! The drinks are also wonderful, and not really badly priced. The Prosecco comes with a raspberry in the glass and feels like a little treat. The cocktail list is pretty expansive for a small place and they have a special cocktail of the week that always looks interesting. As much as I like beer, I haven’t really had a good look at the selection here because of a lack of printed list. The wine list looks decent and they have a good midweek deal on bottles of wine. The service is prompt and always very friendly. If I were to say anything bad it would be that the place can feel a bit packed but that just means that a lot of other people like the place. I only last went a few days ago but want to go again. If you sign up for their email list you get a voucher emailed to you to get a free margherita pizza Sun-Thur if you buy a drink(one voucher per person). Think of it as an extra bonus to give it a try.

I was first lured in here by the Prosecco on tap… have been back several times now and have never been disappointed. The pizzas are amazing, with a great choice of toppings ranging from the old favourites to some interesting flavour combos. Decent price too. Recently my friend and I took advantage of an itison deal originally bought by my parents. It was a very cheap deal so my expectations were not particularly high, but I was pleasantly surprised. The deal was 2 courses from the pizza and pasta menu which had more choice than I had anticipated. Our starters and both the pasta dishes we ordered were delicious. I was also able to take advantage of a half price bottle of Prosecco offer I had found on Facebook which meant the night was an absolute bargain! My mum was also able to use the Prosecco offer a couple of weeks later as it ran for several weeks. More recently still I was looking for a venue for cheap and cheerful early evening food for a party of about 14 before a 40th birthday event. I emailed them to ask if they had a set menu– turns out they don’t– but they did offer us half price pizza! They were very friendly in their email communications and incredibly flexible on the night. I was also given a complimentary ‘birthday’ glass of Prosecco which was lovely! Can’t recommend this place highly enough– great service, food… and Prosecco on tap, what’s not to love!

I’ve only been here twice, each time to pizza/comedy night. My friend and I shared a delicious, massive pizza while watching some good(and some not so good) stand up. Washed down with a few ciders, it makes for a great night. I’ve only been to the downstairs part of Vespbar but really enjoyed it, would definitely go back and highly recommend. This place needs to be talked about more :) Update — well this place is definitely being talked about more!!! Go Yesbar!!!

It’s been years since I’ve been in here(what was it called before this?) and inside the same layout has been maintained but nicely styled. We popped in for a couple of drinks and managed to get a seat upstairs, nice seats, shame the stools are riveted to the floor! Although that did mean we had a giggle at the gentleman who sat near us and tried, twice, to move the stool… Credit to the bar staff for knowing how to do their job — no credit to the eejit who pushed in front of me to get to the bar first only for the barmaid to ignore him and point out that I was first, haha! — and the drinks are reasonably priced although avoid the on-tap Prosecco which bucks the trend there. Not somewhere I’d seek out but a good pub as an alternative, if you strike it lucky and get a seat that is, it’s pretty small!

Having travelled around both Italy and New York I’ve had some of the best pizzas ever and always avoid having pizza at home as I’m always disappointed. Proper hate places like Pizza Hut and Pizza Express. However this little place was a good little surprise, pizza was lovely, thin and crispy and the tomato base tasted lovely and fresh. Added to that the staff are super friendly and there’s a nice relaxed vibe. We will defo be back!

We stumbled in here out of the rain famished and looking for food of the pizza varietal, and boy what pizzas these were! Foolishly(isn’t hindsight wonderful?!), we’d wondered into the Bier Halle at around 6pm on a Saturday night only to be met with a stony-faced waitress who informed us ”There’s a 45 minute wait for a table and I already have a huge amount of names on a waiting list”. I advise that you don’t do this. I advise you have the same bright idea as my friend of Vespbar. Trust me, the pizzas are waaaaay better in here anyway! It was a lot smaller than I expected inside(the toilets are made for elves I think!), but we managed to grab a wee table upstairs. Tummies rumbling, the friend swiftly grabbed us a drink and a menu… I will warn you though, if you are like me and have terrible eyesight but mostly don’t wear your specs/lenses, You’re gonna have a hard time seeing this menu! I could just about make out the names of things, but certainly not what was involved with them. Anyway. Small fonted menu aside, we made our choices, ordered, and waited for our pizzas slurping away merrily at a G&T(me) and a passionfruit cider(the friend). Hadn’t come across the passionfruit one before, it’s lovely! The pizzas showed up and oh man. I could have eaten mine 5 times over. I’d decided on the sausage picante and there were gloriously big lumps of pork dotted merrily around a mega thin margharita base with just the tiniest hint of chilli through it. About halfway through my chomping I realised it was a good thing I had some chewing gum in the bag as it’s also full of garlic. Delish though! The pals looked pretty amazing, covered from what I could see in rocket, mozzarella and tomato. Was so green in places it looked healthy! :P I have only 2 issues with Vespbar. one, I didn’t have enough time to redeem my free coffee(sob), and the pizza cutters(or mine at least) were really quite blunt and could be doing with a wee bit more zing round the edges!

Sometimes I just get a hankering for things I really shouldn’t have… Pizza is chief amongst those thing for various reasons. In lieu of what was no doubt set to be a gruelling Saturday afternoon shopping trip, I wandered into Vespbar armed with wallet and free pizza voucher obtained from the last big Unilocal Event. I needed sustenance to steel me against the hoards of shambling weekend shoppers, so it simply had to be ‘last day on earth’ type pizza. Having sampled Vespbar’s pizza a couple of times before, I had a sneaking suspicion they could do it! It’s always nice when you walk into a bar and are greeted by someone who is warm, friendly, and happy to be there. After a wee bit of banter, I handed over my pizza voucher, and paid a couple of pounds to get some toppings — caramelised onions and blue cheese. Magnifico! I also ordered a nice Strawberry & Lime Kopparberg to wash it all down. The wait did seem a bit long on that day, but that might be because my friend and I were so hungry that we were a hair’s breadth from resorting to cannibalism. But when it did arrive, it was deliciosso! And it didn’t survive very long, either, poor thing. Bellies filled, off we did toddle, for twas time to battle the masses. But you’d better bet I’ll be back for more!!!

We have been twice, first time for the better half’s birthday(as part of a Groupon deal). The half meter pizza with one vegetarian topping for me and one meat based topping for the better half and a very tasty & well prepared mojito(better than ones I’ve had from certain brand name cocktail bars) [we had to have a couple more just to check the quality was really that good ;-)] We popped back over September weekend for my birthday and again went for the half meter pizza, all vegetarian toppings this time. There was quite a wait until the staff appeared to advise that there was an issue and apologised for the delay. Again there was another issue, this time with one of the toppings, but again the staff advised of the issue and kept us informed. I doubt some of the larger places would have been so open and apologetic. Despite these set backs, the place felt homely and the tunes(late 70’s, 80’s and some 90’s) sounded like someone had rummaged through the tunes on my iPhone and put on all the best tracks. The staff have always been friendly & the place has had an easy going feel when we have been in. The stools upstairs(at the windows facing the lane) are a bit uncomfortable after a while, but we did spot what looked like a nice comfy sofa in the corner, so we’ll have to grab that next time we’re in ;-)
