Thorntons

Not the best chocolate in the world, or even the UK, Thorntons chocolates nonetheless satisfies me in socially acceptable ways.
They also do excellent toffee.
This branch is optimally located on the ever busy Sauchiehall Street and has a good selection of stock in what is quite a small store, and one which gets cramped at the festive season.
This one also boasts a ‘Chocolate Bar’ which I have never used. It looks like a wee coffee machine behind a counter. Maybe there’s more to it than that, I’m not sure.
Great for treating a chocolate lover, or treating yourself!

Thornton’s really is the daddy of chocolate shops. We all want to pay daily visits but we know this is madness so we stay away until we can wait no longer. Well I know I do! I recently went in to buy my advent calendar and got sucked into to buying myself a cheeky box of 4 delicious white chocolates. Unsurprisingly this is an expensive shop as good quality chocolate is not cheap but then that is the beauty of the Thornton’s experience — it is a treat. I have never brought a personalised cake but when I was at a friends birthday party she had just that and the smile on her merry face said it all — lucky girl! Thornton’s also sell extensive range of diabetic chocolates. This is great to see as few shops cater to this market despite thousands of people suffering from this illness.

Best friend been dumped? Boyfriend got the hump because his football team lost? Need an advent calendar for yourself? Thornton’s has an edible gift for every occasion — which can even be personalised, for example, you can buy a chocolate car and have «Sorry I smashed your car Dave. Here’s a replacement.» written on it. Or you could go conventional and write «Happy Birthday» or whathaveyou… it’s your choice.
Personally, I can’t really make my mind up about Thornton’s chocolates — yes they are tasty tasty, but sometimes I find them a little too rich. Yes, I enjoy guzzling on them as much as the next person, however, I find that I grow sick of them very quickly — saying that though, I think I could live on their toffee, and their toffee alone. Mmm… toffee…
Anyway, this particular branch of Thornton’s is also a ‘Thornton’s Chocolate Bar’ — basically you can now buy a hot drink, and chocolate, and sit and munch/​drink away to your hearts content in the actual store. Ingenius! Chocoholics over the nation must be rejoicing for this sweet, chocolatey news means they don’t even need to leave the store now. Waaay!
