Although I cannot comment on the Winchester as a club, it is an excellent setting for events. I came here for a fashion show after my very generous friend managed to bag three of us complimentary tickets. The design and luxurious décor — all vintage and sumptiously retro — provided the ideal setting for such a creative event. We treated ourselves to a glass of wine while we were here which was quite pricey but we didn’t mind as we soaked up the surroundings. I’d definitely like to go back to try it as a slightly different club.

Nice little underground club(underground in location, not style or atmosphere…) situated underneath Red Lizard. Worth a visit, played a good mix of music and there is plenty of comfy/retro seating for when you want a wee rest. Wasn’t particularly busy when I visited on a recent Friday night, but it definitely has potential. Free entry too, all night.

I’m a fan of the Winchester Club. Everything from the décor to the music screams ‘kitsch’ and ‘cool’. It’s a very ‘hip’ place to be(without trying to sound like your Grandad. Apologies). Located in the heart of the Merchant City, it’s owned by the same folks as the Red Lizard — blink and you might miss the red-neon lit doorway — it is in a basement afterall. The ‘club’ itself is very retro — leather boothes, dark wallpaper, and funky lampshades all add to the retrofest feeling… The music, well, on a club night(it’s also used as a live music venue, you see) they play pretty much everything from alternative types of music, like Camera Obscura, to Girls Aloud. A nice range, so you can get your boogie on whenever you feel like it… Ok, it can be a tad pricey, and yes, the music isnt for everyone, but still, it’s a decent night out. Try it — you might be surprised…
