More than a bit ticked off after dinner here tonight. We fancied a relaxed tea in the sunshine since we don’t get much of it these days! The Byre is local to us and has a nice beer garden with a good play park for the little one to play. The play park was about the only redeeming feature of our visit. We found ourselves a table outside and wondered where to get some menus. My partner went indoors to try and find some, having to wait in a huge queue with one person serving the bar just to find out where they were. Eventually when he got to the front of the queue he was hurriedly told ‘there outside’. He came back out and finally we found them in a dark, unmarked, unnoticeable corner of the beer garden. Bit silly to have them so out of view. We decided on a sharing platter and some nachos as a ‘picky’ dinner since we were sitting outside. As Martyn had already had an annoyingly long wait for the menus, I decided to go in and do the ordering. Again, only one person serving. The place was totally rammed and the queue was pretty big by this point. Someone had ordered 3 pints and it transpired that the tap wasn’t working. 15 minutes later I was still standing there while the one person serving attempted to fix the tap. Eventually a manager came down, informed the bar staff member there was only half a keg of beer left &1 bottle of red, ignored the huge queue and sauntered off again. So little booze for one of East Kilbrides busiest beer gardens? When I was eventually served there were no apologies or explanations for the wait just bog standard what can I get you. I guess the guy was pretty stressed by this point but manners go a long way. In fairness the food came out pretty quickly. The sharing platter was a fair size, but included only 2 measly chicken strips. So effectively paid £10.99 for a platter of Icelands finest onion rings and wedges. Bit miffed. The nachos were nice but nothing special. £26 for a meal I could have chucked in the oven at home for a fraction of the price. I wouldn’t have minded but after all that time we were ravenous and it just wasn’t up to par. I hate to give a bad review but this place really is overpriced, understaffed and lacking in basic customer service.

The Byre is a large, multi-roomed venue owned by G1 group in close proximity to Hairmyres hospital and Hairmyres train station. It has three different bars, one on the first floor as you come in through the main entrance which is light an airy, with a barn(hence Byre) feel. Immediately below is a more rustic feeling bar which opens out to the vast beer garden which also has a well equipped play area for kids. The third bar is for private functions. There is also a dining room and even more rooms for functions! If you have a «locals» card you can get 10% off drinks and 20% off food, which makes it better value as otherwise it can get pricey for some drinks. There is a decent selection of draft craft beers and two real ales too. Open till 2AM on Friday and Saturday too! Bangin’

The Byre is a safe bet for good pub grub but the menu is in need of a shake up. Reasonable prices & friendly staff.

i am a regular at the byre for lunch and dinner. The staff are friendly and the surroundings are comfortable. They always have special reduced menus on and lunch deals i would reccommend the byre for all types as it is child friendly also!

I have been to the Byre twice, once for an evening meal with 2 girlfriends and once for a Saturday lunch with my husband and 7 month old son. Both times the staff have been so friendly and helpful I couldn’t praise them enough. For the evening meal there was a good choice on the menu and the food was all very reasonably priced. Although the other diners had all finished and left the dining room we were allowed to sit on and at no point did we feel we were being rushed out of the restaurant. The Saturday lunch was a bit disappointing and I felt the food was overpriced especially in comparison to the evening meal prices. The staff were quick to bring a high chair and the service was very good. I would definitely recommend it as an evening meal out for a couple or a family with older children.

The Byre opened recently on the fringes of East Kilbride, close to Hairmyres Station and Hospital. A brand new building, I was expecting good things when I went for Sunday lunch a few weeks ago. Sadly, I was quite disappointed. Although the layout is quite attractive, we were seated close to a children’s play area and my niece nearly tripped over some toys which had been left out. The service is also in need of improvement. The staff were slow to take our order and seemed to spend more time chatting among themselves than serving customers. When the food arrived, that was the biggest disappointment of the day. It was lukewarm at best and not very appetising, something I find astounding as it’s only a roast. It was overpriced for the low quality and I would not be in a rush to return, either to the bar or for something to eat.
