This is my favourite lunch place on Byres Rd because the staff are really friendly, the food is top quality and it is all very reasonable priced. I usually get the Reuben Sandwich, which has large slabs of brisket beef with an amazing homemade ‘slaw. It is impossible not to wolf it down without it getting everywhere. The soup is really tasty and so reasonable for £2 including bread. The main thing I would like to stress about this place is that it is independently run and the food is genuinely home made. No soup out of a tin(which is something I can’t say for a local deli. It has subsequently closed), and pre-made sandwich fillings. You can watch them stacking up the Reuben before they bring it over. The main issue is that it is small and easy to miss. I tell everyone at my work to go here, and I haven’t had a negative review yet. If you’re in the West End, pop in and I promise you won’t be disappointed.

My pea and mint soup was fantastic and my Husband loved his warm pulled chicken roll! Had great dessert in the gluten free cashew nut and honey comb chocolate square which was sublime! A real gem for a delicious lunch!

Popped in to get out of the rain, a nice place for a wee caffeine pit stop before wandering up Byres Road. What a gorgeous little place, with friendly staff and good coffee. I should admit that part of my reason for stopping in this wonderful little Deli was to pick up some of venison salami that Kelvingrove Café use, alas there was no salami left so I had to suffice with their venison chorizo, gosh my life is so hard(and it was delicious!). Only one downside were stools at the window where I chose to sit. Not the comfiest as there only one open side for your feet and being a larger gent I tend to sit diagonally on tall stools, something I couldn’t do with these with any comfort. It’s a small place, but looks to be well stocked with some items I’ve not seen anywhere else. I’ll definitely be popping in again!

Salt is amazing. I can seriously not find any faults with what it sets out to do – it’s mainly aimed at takeaway, but there are a few places to sit in if you want to, and I’m sure I’ve seen tables outside on sunny days. It is also consistently really, really good food. The filled rolls come in delicious brioche buns, the salad is fresh, and fillings flavourful but not over seasoned. Yesterday I had a ginger chicken filled roll, and it was perfection. They also have some really nice cans of fizz available(the rhubarb & apple and ginger beer ones are my favs) as well as a good range of the san pelligrinos. Add great staff and the beautiful natural design of the place, and you’ve got a great place to stop for a quick lunch, that can cure any working day.

Been meaning to check this out since it opened and last Thursday I had the chance to do so. I was hankering(as you do) for a good coffee and I remember a fellow Unilocaler(Hello Jeevan M!) saying the coffee was good here, I also wanted to have a sneaky peak(Pete) at their other, salty wares. It’s a cute little place with only a couple of tables to sit. It’s meant more as a drop-in-and-take-away place really. They sell some different larder goods; flavoured salts being a prominent one(hence the clever name!), cold items(drinks, meats, salads, etc), sandwiches and other lunchy things. They also sell what i was interested in: coffee and CAKE! Yas. I asked if they had soya milk/non-dairy milk for my coffee and the nice guy behind the counter replied that they do have soya milk but only for using cold within a coffee… I thought this was a wee bit odd but I went with it and ordered an Americano with some(cold) soya milk. It was very nice indeed, especially considering sometimes cold soya milk doesn’t blend very well in hot drinks. Whilst waiting on my coffee I had a a chance to browse & spotted they sold the Lime & Mint flavour San Pellegrino canned drink which I had heard tasted like a non-alcoholic Mojito(it does!) so I snaffled one of them(I did pay!) and also the Blood Orange flavour too. Then mine eyes did land upon something that looked so beautiful & I just knew I HAD to have it ~ Salted Caramel Brownie! UH! GETINME! *nom* It was the last one and a beast at that! Nice one. It was absolutely delicious. The salted caramel topping really added to the rich, yummy chocolatey brownieness. Yes, I approve. Best thing was for a(really nice; best Americano I’ve had with soya milk ever!) coffee, 2 cans of SP and a(BEAST!) brownie it all came to just over a fiver. Brilliant. I’ve always been a bit of a salt addict so it’s very fitting that I very much like & can see myself returning to this particular type of Salt. Ain’t no slugs on me, yo!

Went in because my partner was hungry and wanted something salty to munch on, hence my «Salt» suggestion … ba dum tss Anyway, my partner tried their chicken chipotle for the day and he seemed to love it! For some reason, I didn’t think of giving it a try, which was a mistake cause I’m sure it was yummy!(Really need to go back to try) I tried the ginger muffin and it was really yummy! Enjoyed it quite a lot actually. Also, I bought the Porcini Mushroom Salt and seasoned my dinner with it tonight and I really love it. Can’t wait to try their other salts too! So intriguing. Anyway, I will definitely update my review soon with better feedback because this short lunch stop was not enough for me to give a full review. Butt first impressions so far have been good, and I hope it stays that way!

Salt Deli is a lovely addition to Byres Road! Something a little different down the Dumbarton Road end — it’s a bit of a deli, coffee shop and foodie-inspiration zone all in one. We paid a quick late afternoon visit to suss out their wares. I was overwhelmed by the section — there’s deli items in the fridge like meatloaf, sun-dried tomatoes, pasta salad, tarts, marinated mushrooms and mini tortillas. We picked out a couple of leek & cheese tarts to take home(£2 each, very reasonable). But I couldn’t stop there! As I turned around I spied little jars of salt — there is a really interesting selection of flavours and they’re meant to be used as a finish to any dish. I got matcha and porcini mushroom and words can’t express how delicious they are — they really are packed with flavour. There’s also a larder selection, and they offer food to eat in. I didn’t try any of their eat in food but I’ll definitely be back as I was really impressed with some of the adventurous and interesting food they’re doing.

Ever since it opened towards the end of last year, I’ve been meaning to take a trip to SALT Deli on Byres Road. Despite only being open for a short time, they already seemed to have a great reputation and a menu that constantly changed — plus the photos they shared looked delicious!
On Saturday I decided to brave the weather and drop in for a spot of lunch and to check out the larder on offer. Due to the weather, when I arrived the place was pretty quiet, it had snowed so much the previous night I think a lot of people were still hiding from it! I spent the first five minutes or so staring at the shelves of ingredients trying to take it all in. There were beautiful items like Passion fruit Curd, plenty of premium jams and chutneys, Pistachio paste — like Nutella, but with pistachios — and pistachio pesto. On top of that, there were the selection of hand mixed, flavoured finishing salts made in house and cost £2.00 each. They ranged from red wine, to masala. I decided to treat myself to a jar of the Chocolate & Chilli salt, which the staff told me would be great for sweet, chocolate desserts, but more temptingly, go brilliantly with gamey meats like venison or pigeon. And it smells AMAZING! For my lunch, I ordered a pulled pork bun, with manchego cheese, pea shoots and a pistachio and rocket pesto. The pulled pork is made by the staff at the deli and flavoured differently for each few days. Today it was flavoured with chipotle, and served in a bun. The pork was really tender & lovely, while the pea shoots added lots of little bursts of freshness. It was a perfect Saturday treat! As well as purchasing the bun and the salt, I also treated myself to some fancy chocolate. Seed & Bean pride themselves on their high quality, fair trade, organic chocolate, which SALT sell in a variety of flavours. I decided to go for something unusual, so I picked up a bar of white chocolate with lemon & poppy seed. It’s SOGOOD.
All of these items cost me a total of £9.95, which I found pretty reasonable to be honest. The salt is something very special that I will only use on special occasions, and at £4.95, the pulled pork bun was filling and very satisfying, and in my book pretty good value for money, with lovingly homemade ingredients. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and have really utilized the small space they had to work with. If I’m back in the West End, I will definitely stop in at SALT again to sample their latest lunch menu, which changes weekly so as to use the freshest, in season ingredients.

I popped into this new addition to Byres Road for a coffee on the way to Finnieston. It’s half coffee shop, half deli with a definite Mediterranean influence. The shop itself is fairly simple, with some nice vintage wood counters & a sit-in bench by the window giving views out onto Byres Road. They offer cakes, coffee, sandwiches, tea etc to sit in or take away. The deli shelves are full of ingredients & sauces should you be looking to cook at home. They also have a lovely display full of treats to tempt you off that new year’s diet. I had a quick chat with one of the two staff, who mentioned they’ve been open since 8th December, so they’re enjoying all the new faces coming in. The shop’s location is a little further down Byres Road, and people maybe tempted to go somewhere a little closer to the rest of the shops etc, but trust me this is a great wee addition to Byres Road where you can pick up some lovely stuff for a great price.
