A real favourite of mine but not been in for ages. Still a great experience, quick and friendly service, great value lunch menu and tasty food. That roti canai is to die for!

What a yummy place, that suitably helped with my Asian food craving. Visited here around 9 on a Friday evening, to be greeted with a small resteraunt that was filled with both Asians(always a good sign) and Brits. It’s always a good sign when locals are visiting, there is just no other way to say it. The smell coming from the kitchen was incredible. My friend and I ordered some prawn crackers and chicken satay to start with. The prawn crackers were super crispy and the satay sauce was incredible. The perfect portion size of 4 satays, so 2 each. For mains I had a massive portion of nasi goreng. To the point where I finished half and was stuffed and it looked like I hadn’t eaten a thing. I loved the addition of squid, personally I like having a fried egg on the top and could have it spicier, but I know for next time. My friend said her lamb belly was incredible and that the lamb was super tender. The bill for 2, with 2 beers came to 35 quid. So no complaints on the price. I will definitely be back here for more Malaysian food. Perhaps next time take my leftovers home for the next day. Although I was still stuffed when I woke up this morning!

Rumours is probably one of my favourite asian restaurants in Glasgow. It is affordable and the meal portions are pretty large. I haven’t been in a while so I am not sure whether they’re still doing the lunch menu, I can’t remember exactly the price but it was something like 2 courses for £15. The portions were slightly smaller but it was actually perfect for me as I actually find there regular portions a little big!(Again, this is if they are still doing the lunch menu’s!) I always get the bubble tea here — love love love bubble tea and it is so hard to find a decent place in Glasgow that does proper bubble milk tea. I go so often that the staff actually recognise me when I go in now — not sure if that is a good thing?! The restaurant is on Bath Street just round the corner from Buchanan Street so it very convenient. It is quite spacious inside with basic, minimum décor. Most times I have visited it hasn’t been overly busy so it has always been enjoyable. The food is normally served really quick and definitely up to scratch every time. I really like the curry pancakes(I think that is what it’s called) although it is a little on the greasy side — definitely worth it though for cheat day! They have a lot of rice and noodle dish, I’ve tried a few of the noodle dishes and I really do love them all! It is definitely worth a visit! It is cheap considering the portion sizes — it still amazes me every time I go how much they actually give you! 5 stars from me!

Great Authentic Malaysian that does not look like anything like it on the outside. I am not sure what the outside is supposed to be presenting but it does not show the great flavours being produced within. For example, it has the best Bubble Tea in Glasgow. Bloody gorgeous. Do not be afraid of the heat, You can get it fairly mild — or have it spiced up enough to make a South African Chile Connoisseur Sweat. They cater to all types., I got a great noodle dish and there were numerous tofu offerings on the menu. I am sure that this place could satisfy Veggies or Vegans that want to have some spice in their food. Normally this is a tough category to fulfill. I only have one other place in Glasgow that can do this in a reasonable manner. The noodle dish was excellent and the bubble tea was finished fast. I thoguht I was ordering a Mango version but was served a vibrant green Melon one instead. I normally hate melon in drinks but this was fantastic. I still regret not getting the Mango. The other folks with had a number of types of dishes and I really would like to come back and try the rest,. I am not really acquainted with Malay cuisine but this stuff looked great. It is right above one of my favorite and regular places to shop. I am going to start using this as my regular meal stop when down there. It is a quick walk off of Buchanan Street and easy to get to. I would definitely head here if you are anywhere near.

Ever the creature of habit, stumbled past this place on a Sunday lunchtime & saw the reviews on Unilocal,so decided to give it a whirl. First impressions, busy and bright/airy interior. Lady who saw us over to the table was a wee bit brash, but didn’t think much to it. Waited for around 5 minutes before anyone came over to offer a drink. Quite a difference from Asia Style. Went for Jasmine Tea, which is a £1 charge. You don’t pay at Asia Style, so seems strange to even charge a token £1 for it. Thai Green Chicken curry & the special, Okra with Crispy Pork. Didn’t have to wait too long, around 10 minutes. Beautifully presented, but I’m afraid the taste is no match for Asia Style. Pungent smell of fish sauce overpowered both the dishes, which didn’t help the enjoyment. Okra was not fried enough, so as you bit in, it was quite watery. Overly salty pork(that’ll be the fish sauce) and quite fatty. The Thai curry was more of a soup. Chicken was well cooked, but again a lot of fat on the chicken and that fish sauce… arrghh! It just over powered everything. Service. well, it made Asia Style look positively in the same league as The Black Sheep! Not very attentive and brash. Certainly wasn’t trying to win you over with personality or attentive service here. £28.00 in total for a tea, 7-up, two mains and a boiled rice. Not the cheapest & certainly not outstanding enough to make me want to try this place again. The location is by far the winner here — certainly no competition for Asia Style. You Don’t Gotta Eat Here… Sadly! :-(

As a Singaporean foodie who has been away from home for over a year I am always on the lookout for a good place to eat. I’ve tried a few(in London, Cardiff, Edinburgh and Glasgow) and some have been all right but I think Rumours probably got me closest to what I would get back home. We got laksa, char kway teow and nasi goreng. They were all a tad saltier than they would have been back home but still tasted great. The char kway teow really made me think of home!

Having been recommended the restaurant from friends at a Malaysian society night, we decided to see why it was their favourite place in Glasgow. First of all Rumours holds a great location in the city centre — it offers a nice reprieve from the bustle of Buchanan Street. Feeling like a typical restaurant back in Hong Kong, it was quite minimalist but modern and we were greeted immediately by the friendly staff. While the drinks menu was a good surprise, carrying a range of Asian tea and coffee, it was on the expensive side. Still couldn’t resist the Teh Tarik though. As Malaysian food is very much influenced by surrounding countries cuisines, there was a range of dishes to choose from. My Indonesian friend went for Mi Goreng, which he claimed was as authentic as it gets. I wasn’t so sure about the pork belly and tofu however. The tofu was an odd texture and overly salty. I will surely be back though, there are so many dishes that I’m assured are amazing. And the Malaysian students say it’s the best you can get without going home.

A cheery caff with friendly staff in the middle of the city. We found the food very hit and miss — a Kung pao prawns that was spicy and delicious, a Nasi Lemak that had all the right flavours but not in the concentration needed. We were a little puzzled by the roti with salad — a flaky paratha wrapped around shredded greens dressed with mayo — and disappointed that roti weren’t offered as a side. We couldn’t see a big flat roti pan so we’re not sure if they make their own or buy them in. The menu is enormous, with plenty for vegetarians and tasty mango drinks for kids. We’d definitely stop in again because we’re sure there are gems on the menu just waiting to be discovered. There are also not many Malay choices in the city.

My favourite Malaysian food location in the UK until I had the rotis from : in London. I understand the food isn’t exactly the same since Malaysia has cuisine’s from a few different places and each of them are different in the spices and techniques they use. This place is more towards the Chinese side, I am told(correct me if I am wrong though) The Nasi Lemak(Not very Chinese I felt) my favourite dish here. Its just so much food and for a reasonable price as well. The couple of times I was here I came with my Malay friend who did most, if not all the talking, leaving me the simple task of pointing to things on the menu. But the staff are in general quite courteous and I definitely enjoy visiting this place when in Glasgow!

Really tasty food, a large menu and rapid service. The Tom Yam soup and Malaysian curries are the big highlights. The staff are a bit crazy but try to be friendly in their own crazy way. Be aware that it has a distinctly café vibe so not the place for a languid evening meal with friends or a romatic date.

Wat Tan Ho. Or ‘flat noodles in egg gravy’? I think I’ll stick to the Malaysian name, thanks… This is what I’ve been looking for! A simple, clean little café serving noodles, rice dishes, soups — it’s perfect. The staff were lovely, too, recommending my noodles and bringing them fast because I was in a hurry. Yum. Slurp. Yum.

The menu is so thick it could be used as a lethal weapon but fear not, whatever you end up ordering will be delish! I had a chicken satay starter and a chicken and black bean main and I was very happy with both. I think you have to take this place with the right attitude. It is a quick stop café… not a fancy, authentic Asian restaurant. The waitstaff can be a bit grumpy seeming at times but as long as they aren’t rude to me and don’t spit in my food then I’m not too fussed. In fact if the staff aren’t grumpy to me then I feel slightly suspicious as they are so notoriously and consistently grumpy! It’s now become and essential part of the dining experience at Rumours! If you want tasty, quick, Asian food at a decent price then head to Rumours. If you want the whole authentic Asian experience then run for the hills because this ain’t really it. If «the hills» don’t appeal then run for Thai Lemongrass which is more than double the price but 10 times the authenticity.

T’was but a dreich day in(un)sunny G-town when a family of D’s were out and about searching for post New Year sales/deals/bargains/sanity. After what seemed like an age of stoating around shops we decided that enough was enough and that sustenance was required, we popped into this mightily inviting wee joint and dove into some great grub. It was a soup day, so chicken noodle soup and Tom Yum soup was on the cards. Both were excellently fresh, spicy in the case of the Tom Yum(certainly cleared the mind of the cold that was hanging around) and on the kick ass side of lovely. Didn’t indulge in any mains, but the apps to accompany the soups were pretty darn good. While the main prices might look a tad on the high side, i’d be curious to pop in for a visit. All in all, a good shout for proper asian food in the city.

I’m pretty sure Rumours is something you either love or you hate. Personally, after my lunch there last week, I’m a fan. Though maybe it’s because I really only cared about the food(and I wouldn’t know ‘real’ or ‘good’ Malaysian food if it hit me over the head with a brick, so there you go), which was tasty. Yeah, the waitstaff was a bit grumpy, though remarkably accomodating to our queries; yeah, it wasn’t fancy; yeah, it was a bit on the higher price end for lunch if ditching the pris fixe menu, which was a little too much on the safe side for me. But the food was pretty good, if vastly different from what I’m used to, in a case of Paige vs. Fish Sauce. The Ipoh coffee was great. And there was plenty of both. Robbie’s review is pretty accurate – it ain’t somewhere to impress, but it’s good stuff. I’d totally love to go and sit in the window, sip another Malaysian-style coffee, and watch the world go by. Someday.

The menu is intense. A tome. Thick and luxurious, laminated to protect from drooling townies. It’s so thick in fact that it’s difficult to know where to begin, are you bold and adventurous or do you stick with what you kn. hang on, what’s THAT? Pearl apple tea ice cream. A punk green coloured cocktail with jelly spawn and slush. Ok, well, that’s a given. Emboldened by the drink order I went plain white bread with my main and just got Sweet n Sour Chicken. Sauce was a little syrupy, it’s no Asia style etc etc. but it made it’s mark on me with the incredible drinks. It’s what will bring me back.(Full disclosure: The drink wasn’t that tasty. Considering the presentation it was surprisingly bland. Pretty though, and such a fun name.)

Reading these other reviews, I think I must have got the place on a particularly good night, or maybe the others got it on a bad night. I think this might be one of my new favourite places for dinner! We had heard so much about it that it was basically our civil duty to try it out, so we ascended the stairs to Rumours, and waited to be seated. It struck me as very much like a café, which made dining here pleasurably informal, a welcome trait because both my boyfriend and I were extremely under-dressed and tired when we came here on Sunday early evening! It was busy, and many of the customers were Malaysian themselves. I loved the atmosphere; no music meant that the different cultures of chatter around us could be heard which made the experience that wee bit more authentic! The waitress was either new or could not speak English fluently as she seemed to struggle taking our order. I went for the sweetcorn and potato fritters and terryaki chicken with egg fried rice, but wanted them all to come together. I ended up with my fritters as a starter however, but this didn’t bother me too much. My boyfriend and I were excited to sample the drinks menu, which is extensive, and he had a cold lemon tea while I had an Apple Pearl Sherbet, a sort of crushed ice slush drink with ‘pearls’ of jelly balls at the bottom of the glass, complete with a fat straw to suck them up! It was a novel drinking experience to say the least, although expensive at £3 a glass. My terryaki chicken came on a seperate plate from the rice, and was rich and delicious, and a huge portion! The quality of the food was brilliant, the sweetcorn and potato fritters being a personal highlight, and the staff were quick, although perhaps not the friendliest staff in the world, but that didn’t bother us so much, perhaps because of the informality of the restaurant/café hybrid. I will certainly be back, I have to work my way through the drinks menu yet!
