I honestly want to eat here every single day … boy does this place remind me of home!!! Why did I take so long to visit Rishi’s!!! From the outside, Rishi’s looks tacky and downright strange, but don’t be fooled by what you see. This place is filled with South Indian awesomeness! We were seated by the friendliest staff members ever. And quickly, while skimming through the menu, I knew what I wanted. TOSAIIIII(or dosa for non-Malaysians). So, I ordered Roast Paper Dosa(Roti tisu in Malay), Bindhi fry(which is an okra curry) with chapati, and papadoms on the side. Gian had a different dosa with spicy fillings(don’t remember the name), a mild paneer(also don’t remember the name APOLOGIES) with naan bread and some Cobra beer. First of all … fuuuuuuuuuuuuuu I honestly didn’t realize the portions would be so massive! I was SO full by the time I finished my dosa that I was struggling to finish my okra, which devastated me because it’s so super delicious. However, that means we have leftovers for dinner the next day WOOHOO! Hehe. Secondly, everything was AWESOME! I loved everything we ordered. Really reminds me of food back home and it made my cry happy tears on the inside! I am SO going back more often! Gonna try the lunch next time! We also ordered a traditional Indian dessert which looked like shrimp roe but tasted sweet like chai latte. By then, Gian and I were really marathoning through the dessert. We were so full omg. Altogether, everything came up to 18quids per person. It’s a bit pricey but we did kinda over-order, thinking that the portions wouldn’t be that big! OURMISTAKE! We will order moderately from now on. But it was worth splurging because seriously, the food is super super super good! Staff are amazing and friendly, always joking with us. :-) Highly recommend and definitely going back asap!

Just back from the restaurant, I went with my friend and we had Chicken tikka masaala Dal Dosa starters homemade fresh yogurt and fresh salad and a nan. It was our first time there and it certainly won’t be the last time :) the food was out of this world. I even felt healthy eating it too! Fresh ingredients no paste or sauces added clean tasting food no oil at all floating in any dishes! Thank you very much for the great food we will be back soon for lunch to taste the Thali x x

From the outside Rishis does not look like its offering anything special however inside the story is different. Offering delicious South Indian fare with generous and hospitable staff— Rishis is sure to not disappoint. The chilli fish fry, any type of dosa and their tandoori chicken are stand out dishes for me. Don’t miss out on their fruit juice Thurvini. Rishis offers a fantastic lunch deal which is great value for money. My only disappointment was their chai as I was hoping for more flavour:

If you feel like punishing your mouth or inflicting real pain on your taste buds, then I would suggest a visit to Rishi’s Indian Aroma is for you! It’s certainly an assault on the senses but in a very good way. These guys DONOT hold back on the chili so if you like it hot and spicy this restaurant has got to feature on your list of go-to places. Being a South Indian restaurant the flavours are often more aromatic and fragrant than the northern dishes we have been accustomed to in the UK. As mentioned these guys love their chili’s so be prepared to drink a barrel load of beer or perhaps a cooling yoghurt based, mango lassi to keep the tongue from catching fire ;) As the South of India is famed for its vegetarian dishes, I usually try and keep it fairly traditional when I’ve been, usually opting for the Gobi Manchurian to start. This dish is simply stunning even if you don’t like cauliflower. It’s almost Chinese in flavour with a fried chicken-esque appearance, it’s one of the tastiest starters I’ve ever eaten in an Indian restaurant and I find it really hard to overlook this great wee dish. Equally awesome are the veg samosa, and at a mere £3 for 3 they’re such a steal. Once more, those of you who don’t like too much heat should think twice about ordering these super hot starters. Main dishes again are generally, on the whole, wickedly hot and there are loads of great veggy dishes to choose from(but fear not meat fans, there are also a good selection of chicken and lamb dishes too). They do smaller tiffen style portions(i.e. smaller mains), so you can have a few between the table or if you don’t like to share, you can opt for the traditional curries. I’ve had both the meat curries like the Chicken Kadai and veggy ones like Channa Masala. Everything has always been fresh tasting and incredibly good value for money. Think around £5−6 for a veggy main, its astounding really! I feel that when I walk into Rishi’s and I’m virtually the only Brit eating in there, its got to be a good sign. It really does seem to be a favourite place of the local Indian residents and students. The staff are also all mainly from the South of India and will make great recommendations if you are unsure on what to order. Rishi’s is such a friendly place, with incredible tasting food and astonishing value for money. This means that it has to be one of my favourite curry spots in Glasgow and that is saying something for a city which boast some top notch curry houses!

What a pleasant surprise along our ambles through Glasgow! If you’re famished, fancy some mighty fine Indian, and happen to be in the area, I’m definitely singing this place’s praises. First of all the name holds true, because we had actually walked past Rishi’s before the delicious aroma of curry made us do a comic double-take. The outside isn’t much to look at, but once down the wee stairs and inside you’ve got a nice, clean, roomy interior. There was no waiting to be seated for us, which was something we faced with apprehension on a busy Saturday night in the city. Not only that, but we were greeted by an expansive staff of extremely friendly folk – first and second star, garnered! The third, fourth, and fifth stars are earned by the food. Literally everything that I stuffed into my ravenous face was spot-on. From our starters of samosas and paneer(uhhhhh sooo good!), to the seemingly endless array of rice selections(tomato, mushroom, pilau, and lemon just for our table), to the garlic naan that was crusted with spice and flavor. When the main course arrived we were already well on the way to being full – but Rishi’s is the kind of place that you are compelled to ignore your tightening belt as you have«just one more bite», only to contentedly waddle out the door at the end. Another testament to the authenticity of this place would appear to be how it appeals to the people of its origin! We(a gaggle of mostly Americans) were among the minority in a mostly Indian clientele, which made me feel we were in trusted hands. And sure enough – I could see why people of any background would go here. It’s freaking GOOD. When we finally did throw in the towel of our lofty meal, the kind wait staff was more than happy to box the carnage remains for us(yesssss!). Be forewarned though – after a meal like this, you may want to hibernate for the rest of the season! Bravo, Rishi’s! Will return if ever in the neighborhood and hankerin’ for some delicious curry!

Had to get some Indian food while in Glasgow as I heard good things. Wasn’t disappointed. Food was excellent. Service was great and our server certainly didn’t hesitate to talk us into more food. Had the chicken tiki and it was quite tasty. The naan are huge and 1 would have plenty for four people. Good atmosphere without going over the top on the Indian culture. Very comfortable place to have a nice dinner.

We were looking for a good Indian restaurant for our last night in the UK and we hit the jackpot. This place is incredible. The service was on point and the Dosa. Good lord, the Dosa was just so so good. Make sure you hit up this place!

You might walk on by Rishi’s, as I’d often done before. Patrons of Glasgow, I suggest you don’t. It was evening, we were hungry. A Calexico gig at the Old Fruit Market lurked in the coming hours and we were looking for a restaurant in the city centre. Indian? Indian would be nice. And I’d heard good things of Rishi’s. — The menu is extensive and varied with a focus on South Indian cuisine. I’d dipped my toes into the Southern treats of India when I tried dosas previously. Based on those heavenly filled crepes, I knew I was in for good things. Also, Rishi’s has some really great vegetarian options. — Score! Staff really are the sweetest, beyond any I’ve encountered before. I’d even go as far to agree with Briony in saying that they’re a little shy. Nonetheless, service was attentive and friendly. I ordered a mango lassi to start and I almost sipped it down in one. — I love mango lassi and Rishi’s served me up a fine, fine glass o’ the stuff. Delicious. Onwards to the starters and we picked Methu Vadai — fried doughnuts made of urid dal, ginger, onion, curry leaves and green chilli and Chicken 65 — deep-fried spicy chicken pieces. I loved the texture of the doughnuts, they were dreamy and so incredibly fluffy in their form. Although they tasted minimally seasoned, the accompanying spicy sauces added the perfect amount of flavour and warmth to the dish; just the right amount of heat. The chicken 65 was deliciously tender and its seasoning game was strong. — It was bursting with flavour! We devoured them at record pace and both agreed; chicken 65 is one starter we’d struggle to resist on a second visit. Smiles all round for these guys! The curry? As delicious as the starters would suggest. The garlic naan was just oozing with flavour and the sharing portion of rice was a generous one. My helping of creamy korma made for the kind of curry I know I can rely on, whilst tempting my tastebuds to the rest of the menu. Lovely!

There are so many Indian eateries in Glasgow that you need to be very special to get 5 stars. Rishi’s is unbelievable, a proper hidden gem and I’m delighted to have visited here. I asked my Facebook friends for advice on where to take my colleagues from our London office for dinner, the criteria being one was looking for flavourful food and one couldn’t eat spicy things at all. Rishi’s was the recommendation which sparked my interest as — despite living in Glasgow most of my life — I had never heard of it. We arrived at 7.45pm and immediately I worried, as the restaurant was empty. I think going back to the hidden gem thing, the restaurant is in a Bath Street basement and I suspect people just walk past. I can’t remember everything that we had for starter except the mysore masala dosa, which was enormous! The potato filling was indescribably good with various dipping sauces to enjoy with it. The bhajis were a little disappointing to be honest, but were the only slight negative in an excellent meal. I had the chicken dopiaza with coconut rice and a peshwari naan for main. Now, I’m a big girl who likes her food and I are maybe a third of this — the portions are very generous indeed — but this was probably the best dopiaza I’ve had. My colleague had a fish curry(possibly a Goan curry?) which she raved about. The prawn curry and chicken tikka masala were similarly well received. I was so full that I couldn’t even think about dessert, which never happens for me! Service wise, I found the staff charming and not at all phased by us asking to split our bill four ways. The prices are so reasonable here and the food SO good that I can’t recommend this place enough. Go! Enjoy!

Its a good South Indian restaurant. i would say the service is a little slow but food was amazing. I got the thali which was authentic, the schezwan chili paneer was amazing. I loved their filter coffee, even my hubby(who hates coffee) loved it. The noodles were average tasting but masala dosa was really good. I would suggest trying fresh lime soda-sweet, its too refreshing. the host was super friendly.

This was a suggestion thanks to Briony C for a wee pre-munch before we headed to the cinema. It was on my list for visiting as I had heard down the foodie grapevine that this was tasty Indian to try. Briony kindly booked us a table or as it was noted ‘Braine’, fortunately we guessed it was meant to say Briony. Hehe! I decided to just go for a curry and a naan bread as I felt a full on Indian meal was gonnae be too much for this excited stomach. Well, I was going to see Maleficent, I was just slightly ecstatic inside. Eeeee! I got the chicken peshwari and just a butter naan instead of a peshwari naan. I would have been peshwaried oot my heid. I think I may use this phrase next time I’m out on the town. «I’m pure pershwaried oot my face.» Nice! Anyhoo, it’s bang smack in the heart of town, on Bath Street, just round the corner from the hustle and bustle of Sauchiehall Street. Fancy a tasty treat get yersel round to Rishis. The Indian aroma is Unilocaler guaranteed, well it does sell Indian food after all. Enjoy!

Another South Indian restaurant to compete with Dakhin, is it any good though. Well the menu is interesting, the place is modern, and the staff are welcoming. I would have to say that my lunch was tasty and up there with some of Glasgow’s finest Indian eateries. Not quite a 5, but a good 4!

I’d read that a significant number of vegetarian & vegan options were available on Rishis menu, so we made a bee-line there for lunch. That it was in such close proximity to Buchanan Street was a pleasant surprise. Not far to walk from the subway. We were in for a treat. Slightly below street level on Bath Street, Rishis Indian Aroma has something of a split personality. The dining area to the front of the restaurant has something of a basic café vibe with wipe-clean paper tablecloths and comfy chairs, while the main body of the place has a smarter look — the cosy booth seating & candelabras hint that it may have been an Italian restaurant in a previous life. We were seated near the front window at a wee table for two. I’m not really familiar with Southern Indian cuisine so expected to be at a bit of a loss when choosing what to eat. The lunchtime menu left us none the wiser. It was extremely vague and made no sense at all. The addition of a brief explanation at the bottom of the menu would make a world of difference. After much deliberation we asked the waiter for some clarification and discovered that we could choose any chicken or vegetable curry dish from the a la carte menu to be part of our lunchtime special option. The choices sounded pretty decent. We both opted for a vegetarian dish — each was served with a bowl of rice and a naan bread between two. We chose well! I couldn’t manage dessert but my hungry daughter pushed the boat out and had what looked like a south asian version of a knickerbocker glory. Very good it was too. I’m told it had rosewater flavoured milk, vermicelli, fresh fruits, ice-cream, and tapioca seeds whatever they are! I think we were the only diners not eating dosas for lunch. I’ve not tried them before but they looked pretty amazing and came with all manner of dips. My appetite has definitely been whetted and a return to Rishis is on the cards. Think we’ll throw caution to the wind and be a bit more adventurous next time. I just wish the menu gave a little more information for those who are clueless of this region’s cuisine. The lunch bill for two people(papadom, curry, rice, shared naan, one dessert and two half pint glasses of coke) came to less than £19. Bargain! Exit two very full & happy bunnies.

So, Glasgow has the highest number of dedicated vegan restaurants per capita in the United Kingdom. Great place to start. But the problem is that they are all pretty much the same. Decent vegan choices but all based on Middle Eastern and European animal free dishes. Rishi’s is starting a mile ahead of these places. Southern India has a long culinary tradition of animal-product free cooking. Using a wide variety of plants and spices to generate brilliant tasty dishes. So take your decent Indian restaurant menu Vegan selection and times it by ten. Yup, it is that big. Started with potato bahjis and the Savoury donuts. They came with a small pot of Sambara«lentil curry» and coconut dip that was awesome. I do not the use word«awesome» lightly. That was a great start to this meal. I had picked out the Thali. An amazing selection of small pots filled with spicy goodness. The Vegan ordered a onion and potato Dosa that pretty well took up her entire side of the table. The staff were brilliant with directing us to dishes and drinks that she could have. Fantastic service. If you want a great Indian meal — get in here. If you have any veggies or vegans in your group — you have no excuses. Also try this place for lunch. Fast service and food that will make you smile.

Specialising in the culinary delights of Southern India, Rishi’s offer an incredible value lunch for something, «a bit different». With a friendly greeting and chilled Cobra on the table, we set about ordering the food. Naturally they have a full a la carte menu, but we opted for the lunch options. There are currently 5 to choose from ranging from a startling £3.99(for the takeaway offering) to £6.99. 2 of our party went with option 3 — a large Poppadum, Veg or Chicken Curry, Naan and Pilau Rice. They both chose the Chicken Curry, one who likes the milder sauce of Chicken Patia with Ground Spices, Red Cayenne Peppers, Jaggery, Vinegar & Lemon for a Sweet n’ Sour taste. The other had the waiter’s recommendation of an authentic South Indian dish, Chicken Chettinad including Ground Coconut, Curry Leaves, Fennel & Sesame Seeds amongst other ingredients in a lovely medium spiced sauce. Myself and another decided upon Option 1 which is a mini Tiffin banquet. Sort of like Indian Tapas. The selection presented for the price is astonishing. It included; Idli — Steamed Rice Cakes made with Rice Flour and Urid Dal Medhu Vadai — Fried Doughnuts made with Urid Dal, Ginger, Onion, Curry Leaves & Green Chilli. They were served with a selection of chutneys & sambar. Poori Masala — Deep Fried Puffed Wheat Bread with Potato Masala. Finally, there was the«Mini» Masala Dosa which if it’s the mini one, I’d like to see its Mum! I’ve added a couple of pics so you can appreciate the size — substantial is the word. The Dosa is like a thin filled pancake South Indian style. In this case with the Potato Masala. All in all, this option offers a great taste of Southern India and I’m delighted I chose it. I think upon return, I’ll try to persuade some lucky person to share both number 3 with Chicken Chettinad and number 1 together. That would be a feast. All options selected came with Tea /Coffee and I had the Chai, which was a great way to end the meal. Staff were friendly and engaging.

I liked rishis for a number of reasons, but it’s not my favourite Glasgow curry house and thus I probably won’t be back(mainly due to there being HUNDREDS of other choices I still need to try). Firstly the beer was good, and at £3.25 a pint for Cobra or Kingfisher this was a good bargain. Secondly the starter I had, chili chicken fry was really good-almost like a curry in itself and with a nice kick to it as authentic South Indian cooking should have. My main wasn’t that great, I had lamb vindaloo and to be honest I wasn’t expecting a grey sauce which was pretty unappetising. It tasted fine though albeit lacking in heat sadly. Overall it’s a good place and caters for large grounds very well. One thing to watch out for is the dosa…(I’ve uploaded a photo of the family size) which is the speciality here. The deals offered on the website are great value for money too.

Rishi’s on Bath Street is more casual than I was expecting, but the food exceeded all my expectations. We were greeted at the door and seated by the window. Being a basement restaurant we were in prime position for people watching. I was concerned however: we were the only people in the restaurant(at 6.45pm) and we weren’t getting any attention from the staff. They seated us, and they left. After some time, say at least 10 minutes, someone came to take our orders — food, as well as drinks. I was slightly confused by this and the only way I can really describe it is as though the staff were too shy to come over to talk to us. After the ice was broken, the service definitely improved. By this stage, the restaurant was filling up — what a relief! We ordered the chicken 65 and Mysore masala dosa for starters(under the tiffin section). The chicken 65 was very similar to pakora but with a crispier outside. The dosa was huge and filled with potatoes with a few dipping sauces. I loved this and would definitely try another one of the many dosas’s(dosi?) on the menu next time. For mains, we had chicken tikka masala and lamb kadai with two sides of butter naan. The lamb kadai was definitely medium spicy which was a bit too hot for me, but the lamb was juicy and tasty. The chicken tikka masala was great too — a nice punch of flavour without being too creamy or rich. We opted not to go for dessert as that was a pretty filling meal. Apart from the slightly uneasy service, I had a really pleasant meal here. Once the restaurant filled up it had a nice atmosphere and there was an interesting mix of people eating here. The menu was pretty detailed — there is a big selection of starters, tiffin as well as lamb/chicken mains and some seafood. Even better, this meal didn’t make me feel sick afterwards. Normally I avoid eating Indian food as too often there is something(whether it be a spice or the ghee) that doesn’t agree with me, and I feel sick for the rest of the night. Thankfully there was just a pleasant«full» feeling upon leaving Rishi’s. We’ll definitely be back.
