Retro

We were randomly looking for a birthday present for my boyfriend’s Dad. I lived near to Retro but had never really ventured in before.
Went in on a Saturday afternoon around 3 (it opens from 11am).
It’s such a quaint wee place with a cat that snoozes in the sunshine outside.
Inside its a bit of a treasure trove for vintage fans, I saw lots of ladies clothing from the 50s through to 80s as well as lots of lovely handbags and accessories.
Back to the birthday present, having just returned from the Caribbean we thought we’d opt for a garish summer shirt and they didn’t disappoint. One bright blue and yellow Hawaiian shirt purchase later, present done. And there was at least five to choose from!
It’s perfect for fancy dress ups or looking for something different for a wedding or prom do.

Retro clothing shops have recently become very popular, at least in Glasgow. Situated between two other popular vintage clothing shops, Retro has its work cut out for it.
However, unlike the other vintage shops, the clothes in Retro, are actually vintage. Too many times a vintage shop will showcase clothes which are just ‘hand me downs’ or donations, but you can see on the label that they’re from a popular high street shop.
Not so with Retro. All manner of vintage merchandise, including some very questionable dresses, which, though I wouldn’t wear them now, I can see I would have back in the 60’s.
I bought a lovely 20’s hat, complete with netting and the shop-​worker was very helpful. I tried it on, we chatted for a few minutes about the hat itself, and I felt confident in my purchase. I imagine if she’d been a bit snobbier, I wouldn’t have bothered. But she seemed as excited about my purchase as I was, and that’s a good thing.
A great place to go to get a unique outfit (maybe for a special occasion) that you know that no one else will have. Nothing worse than showing up at a party in the same dress as someone else.
A little on the pricey side, but they take good care of their merchandise, so it’s justifiable. If you ask, they’ll even tell you the best way to clean it so as not to ruin it at home (which is my talent).
Seriously, have a chat with them, even if you don’t end up buying anything. The service alone will have you coming back again.
