Lived in the vicinity for most of my life but never ventured into this place until the weekend. Its modest signage that has been there since forever has admittedly left me overlooking a decent dispatcher of grub. As far as takeaways go, it’s fine! It’s cheap, hamburgers looked fresh, chips were just fried, they do meal deals late at night and during peak times. Their menu extends beyond kebab and chips to curries, or some Italian food if pizza tickles your fancy. The staff are friendly enough and seem to want you to get the most for your money, which makes a refreshing change from being asked if you want to «go large» by an embarrassed employee in a fast food chain. Good for local eats on a night you can’t be bothered lifitng a finger in the kitchen.

Queens Cross is an interesting one. It wasn’t my first or even second choice as my friend and I got a late-night taxi from town to my flat via a cheap food source. What swung it was the simple fact that they were the only open takeaway. I can’t remember the exact time but as it was a Friday night and everywhere else was shut it must have been pretty late, at least half one. To save money we went for the meal box for one and split it, which I would recommend to any two people eating here who can agree on a curry as it was only a fiver each and we couldnt quite finish it all. The naan wasn’t brilliant by any means but it never is at a takeaway, and with the spiced onion and curry to dip in it was far from disappointing. The chicken pakora was standard in every way, meaning it was filling and got the taste buds salivating but were you to not eat the main part of the meal, the curry, after, you would feel somewhat unsatisfied. As for the curry itself, lamb boona since you asked, it was peculiar. Not bad, but it did have a rather unobscure taste of lime pickle and lemon. I’ve never experienced a curry with a citrus-y side to it and I have to say it was quite pleasant. I’m sure I’ll be back one night when once again it is the only place still open and I’m looking forward to seeing if it has that same taste to it, if not I’m slightly worried as to what was in it. Friendly enough staff, decent scran and the last man standing as far as opening times go, definitely worth a pop.
