Pride Glasgow 2015 is(surprisingly) the first Pride event I’ve ever been to — and it was great fun! Events for Pride have been sporadic in Glasgow for many years due to financial issues. But, a new committee and the decision to charge for tickets have helped made this year a great success — and hopefully secured a more tenable future. This year tickets for the weekend were £12; or £8 for individual days — but there was also a great volunteering programme for folks who wanted to come but were unable to pay full price. The main Pride procession was on Saturday afternoon — starting from and returning to Glasgow Green. I saw it for a few minutes en route to the King’s — but it was great seeing so many people from different aspects of the LGBT community coming together. On Sunday myself, the Mr, my dad, and a couple of my nieces spent the afternoon at the main Glasgow Green site. There were stalls from all sorts of organisations: Steve Retson Project, girl guides, unite, and Children 1st(and everything in between). All the volunteers were really awesome: friendly, chatty, helpful and great with the kids. Main stage had some music, ranging from Rozalla to Texas! There’s also a pretty decent funfair — unfortunately my nieces didn’t meet the height restrictions for most of the rides, but had a great time on the teacups and playing hook a duck Twitter handle is @prideglasgow — this year’s focus was on wellbeing and happiness #behappy . The whole afternoon had an awesome family friendly feel to it — looking forward to next year’s event!
