My experience is exactly the same. I am sure payments are being delayed for profit. As the case above more and more documentation was requested, there was always something else that was needed or was needed again. It took 18 months before my case was settled and may well have gone on for longer had I not taken action. I reported Phoenix Life to the Ombudsman and as a result managed to get reasonable interest. I requested the Ombudsman undertake a full investigation of their services but was told the Ombudsman’s responsibility is limited to resolving disputes. The task of monitoring the practices of financial institutions falls to the Financial Services Authority(FSA). I was advised by the Ombudsman that my complaint would be sent to the FSA but would not likely hear the result of any investigation as such results are not released to the public! Furthermore an investigation would only be undertaken if there sufficient quantity of complaints. I cannot accept such problems are the result of incompetence therefore I strongly urge anyone who is experiencing the same difficulties to write to the Ombudsman in order to get the interest they deserve and to write to the FSA so that a body of evidence can be assembled in the hope a full investigation of this company will be undertaken. It deeply troubles me that people who do not have the wherewithal I do are being swindled or even die before the payment is made. Anyone wishing advice can contact me at
