The peking is always a hit or a miss with me. Its close to home so if I’m in the mood for a Chinese that’s where ill go. When its good its great But on the odd occasion I’ve had a few not so great curries from there. My usual is the shredded duck and that can sometimes be very dry and crispy or too fatty. On a fri/sat night the place is buzzing. Whether its a take away or to sit in. A Sunday can be busy too but expect to get last nights prawn crackers. As a restaurant its very dated. Think 1970’s. Nothing goes, mismatched furniture, horrible curtains and carpets and massive fish tanks. Its probably not been done up since it opened. But if u like venturing back in time then why not give it a go. Price wise, its kinda pricey. But worth it on a good night.

You’d have to be crackers not to give this a go! Visited Sunday 12 September 2010. We were famished, starved and on the hunt for food. My lady and I had just spent the evening with Dale Winton. Before you get the wrong idea, he was in Glasgow filming«In It To Win It» at the BBC studio’s and we had managed to procure a couple of tickets to watch it being made. We were turfed out of the studio just after 8pm. After a bit of deliberation we decided to head for the Peking Palace near Burnside(or to be more accurate Cathkin). When you pull up outside the joint it doesn’t look like much, a prefab unit with plenty of parking spaces. It sits right next to the Blue Rupee Indian and the Cathkin Inn pub. Don’t be put off though, Once through the door it’s appearance changes for the better. Very large inside with well spaced out tables with traditional chinese decoration, slightly tired décor and could probably do with a wee update. We first came here about 25 years ago, not much has changed since, the big aquarium is still there, wonder if it’s still the same fish? There is a comfortable lounge area for a drink while your table is prepared or if you’re waiting for others. No waiting for us though, escorted straight to one of their curved booth’s by very friendly and attentive staff. It wasn’t too busy while we there but once you are seated in the booth it feels like you are shut off from the rest of the world. Right, down to the food. Starters, She(who must be obeyed) went for the Chicken and Sweetcorn soup and I choose the Crabmeat and Sweetcorn soup at £2.50 each. Both were piping hot and very thick, with plenty of flavour and a free portion of Prawn crackers to go with them. It was just what we needed after sitting in an ice cold studio for 2 ½ hours. Mains. Kung Po Chicken £8.00 with fried rice £2.50 for Mrs gdnumber1. For me Gourmet Chicken filled with Prawn paste £10.50 and fried rice as well. That dish comes with any choice of sauce I asked for a satay sauce. The dishes are served up on plates garnished with artistically carved vegatables and salad. When I saw my Gourmet Chicken I thought they had given me an extra portion by mistake, it was huge. Both dishes were great, no complaints about the quality or quantity. Totally stuffed we called it quits and got the bill. It came to £36.80 for 2 courses and 2 drinks each. For the quality of service and the quality of the food it was well worth it. As an aside, the toilets are definately showing their age and should be redone, Not that they are unhygenic, they were actually very clean, but the tiles are showing their age and if they could just give the place a bit of a tart up it would be 5 stars instead of 4. Give it a go, always worth a vsit for top Chinese food.
