Peel Park

This is a pub that has changed over the years. It now has a Premier Inn in it’s car park. A long time ago, (over thirty years in fact) I used to sell the Sport Times outside here on a Saturday night, when it was called ‘The Queensway’. I started drinking here when I was about seventeen, (in those days there were no laws I think).
Now it is a large open-​plan pub and restaurant. One side is a typical pub, with football on the TVs and a mixture of comfy couches, stools and normal chairs and tables. The restaurant side has a huge variety of table sizes and a carvery for $ 4.99. When I’ve been short of time I’ve used this service and it has been very acceptable. A full restaurant menu is also available. There are seats and tables at the front doors and lots more around the back. There is an indoor play area for young children downstairs and a large climbing frame and play area out the back too. If you have a dog, or two, the staff are only too happy to bring you out a tub of water for them to drink.
All in all, the only downside is the price of the drinks. There are a couple of cheap pints, but the rest of the drinks are much more pricey than the pubs at the town centre. It’s a good family pub and the staff are all very helpful and friendly. Sometimes, however, the bar is left unmanned for too long and you have to go around the bar to the restaurant to find the poor wee soul who has been left in charge of all areas.

The hotel now located the Peel Park is a Premier Travel Inn. I have not stayed in it but wanted to review the lovely pub adjacent to it.
Completely renovated earlier this year, it is a lovely welcoming pub. Best of all are the Sunday lunches. Served carvery style, there are some lovely roasts on the menu along with all the trimmings. The staff are very helpful and friendly and I have to say it’s the best Sunday lunch I have sampled for a very long time.
They currently have their Christmas menus available and I am pretty sure I’ll be going there sometime over the festive season for some top quality and good value food.
