Great stop for weekend purchases, my favourites are the ciabatta rolls and an apple & cinnamon donut, you can taste the quality.

As far as I’m concerned, this is the best breakfast in Shawlands. A great price(to compete with the generic Wetherspoons), warm service and proper greasy-spoon fry-up. Price includes toast(pre-buttered with A LOTOFBUTTER) and tea/coffee so no extra stings in the tail. Great bread to take home with you too :)

I hate to break this to you. But we all agree that someone had to tell you sometime. If you have not being eating bagels from Newlands Home Bakery — then every single one of your bagel experiences have been crap. .. sub-par. .. atrocious. Newlands Home Bakery make the best bagels in Glasgow. Toasted, they are astoundingly good. They make the mealy pap that you have been buying from the supermarket which taste more like wallpaper paste. And do not get me started on those New York Brand things(that cannot be called bagels). If you want a great bagel — get yourself to Shawlands and buy these bad boys. Toast them up with a little butter. You can thank me later. I will take my payment in sesame bagels.

I have to agree with previous reviewers, this branch of Newland home bakery is head and shoulders above some of it’s other branches. It’s fresh and airy and you can sit in to enjoy a coffee and a breakfast roll rather than having to takeaway. The staff are friendly and they do a pretty awesome iced ginger which is super moist and the icing is really soft and tasty — just the way I like it. I’m also partial to the Empire Biscuits here, delish! I also noticed a board which had the soup of the day and special offers written on it, I’m not sure what it was meant to be but it looked like a potato with eyes. Cute.

Whereas Oxford Street is the home of the flagship branches of the UK’s High Street chains, Kilmarnock Road is the venue for this, the hub of the Newlands Home Bakery empire. About 5 times bigger than any other Newlands, with different décor to boot, it’s a haven for freshly baked bread, pies, cakes and a small but high quality number of deli-style bumph. It quite frankly, shits all over Greggs.

The best thing about this bakery is the original bread: they have plenty of choice, from classic white to wholemeal, without getting lost in too many fancy varieties! Newlands Home is an old fashioned bakery, with a range of eclairs, cream cakes and all the old favourites: since they are made on site, it has a real edge over the majority of high street bakeries. They also serve take away coffee– good and cheap, not stewed or harsh– and will bake speciality cakes to order. Since it is right next to the bus stop and the train station, it is ideal for a quick snack en route, and the cream cakes and doughnuts have, on many occasions, tempted me to break my healthy diet. It also has a deli next door and a café: a little functional and bare, but a good place for a cheap lunch.
