The peppermint slice is insane! Everything is baked freshly in store and the staff are lovely!

I’d compare Muffin Break to Costa, Caffe Nero, Starbucks etc. I think it’s a wee bit better in terms of food and the prices are more reasonable. I’d recommend one of the savoury tarts(£3.50) but don’t be fooled into getting the side salad, it costs £1 extra for a wee bit of lettuce! The coconut lemon slice is delicious and the muffins look really good. They always have gluten free muffins too. They also have a range of sandwiches, toasties and wraps. The coffee could be better. I’ve tried a flat white and a latte and neither tasted that good to me. The place itself is laid out well with plenty of seating options whether you’re on your own or with a group. It’s clean, tidy and kid friendly. They have a toilet so you don’t need to hike up to the food court. This could be a handy pit stop for shoppers or people who work nearby but probably not somewhre to go out of your way to visit.

Killing time, and drawn in by my love of a good muffin(fnar?) I popped in here. A latte and an apple and cinnamon muffin ordered, I tried to find a seat. It wasn’t that busy just a bit messy, but I don’t mind grabbing a napkin to wipe down a table so it didn’t take me long to get seated. You get the option to have your muffin warmed, which is a nice touch, and so when mine arrived it was lovely and moist, very tasty but a bit crumbly, like it’d dried out a little bit before they’d heated it? The coffee was kinda average, but in a lovely touch that made me smile you get, when you start to reach the button of the cup, a glimpse of a wee smiley face in there! Cute! It’s a bit cramped for space, especially at the ordering area when you walk in, and like I said, they could pay a little more attention to the seating area cleanliness, but overall it was about as I expected. Cheap, cheerful and good for the price.

Looks good, looks clean and all looks really tasty. BUT — the guy serving was not letting anyone get a word in, deft not customer service that I would want again. Quite rude really. Maybe needs to back down and pay attention to customers. Bought lemon and coconut slice — butter cream icing way to buttery all you can taste — maybe a wee bit of cream cheese in the mix to take the greasy butter taste away — leaves a terrible after taste. Bought a date slice — can slightly taste the date but over baked as date has gone rock hard in the middle instead of keeping its jam like consistency. All in all not that chuffed giving them the stars as was clean and used tongs for gluten free on gluten free and other tongs for non GF cake.

Smudge suggested we stop here for refueling and I must admit I wasn’t optimistic. I was being a bit of a snob and didn’t particularly like the location, across from the Boots at the bottom of the escalators and main lifts in the St Enoch Center. I was completely wrong about the place and was pleasantly surprised with a lovely wee muffin place. I ordered a cappuccino and an apple cinnamon muffin for me and a ribena and mint chocolate slice for smudge. We ordered at the counter and I was delighted to be offered help to get the tray of drinks over to the table — yeah puff’s buggy is a pain in the neck. But still less of a nightmare than a toddler on the loose! Everything was really good, decent coffee, lovely fresh and flavoursome cakes, comfy seating, plenty of highchairs and really friendly helpful service. The location still isn’t perfect, but do you know what it really didn’t matter and I’ll definitely be back.

I dropped in here recently for what was an unacceptably late lunch. This was my fault, not Muffin Break’s fault. They were really probably wanting to close up for the day by that point and almost all of the muffins were gone — no matter, I wasn’t in the mood for something sweet anyway. My boyfriend and I each ordered a hot drink. He ordered a cheese and ham pannini and I ordered a leek and mushroom tart. The staff were amazing, they didn’t seem to mind that we’d arrived 30 minutes before closing, they just got our order ready, chatting away to us and recommending other items for next time. The man serving us realised I’d registered my loyalty card online and told me my coffee was free — unless I wanted to save it for next time. We got settled and enjoyed our drinks and food whilst watching shoppers finishing their errands in the St Enoch Centre. I was relieved to see other customers to Muffin Break arrive even after we did and I stopped feeling so guilty. My coffee was perfect and the tart was delicious, light and creamy. I kind of want to go back and try a few of the other flavours, as well as the pasta bake they serve there. I think, for a coffee shop that really specialises in muffins, they put a lot of thought and creativity into their other options. In Glasgow any café or coffee shop faces a lot of stiff competition and, with so many options, I’m not sure I’d stop here every time I was in need of caffeine in the city centre. However, if I’m in need of caffeine and a cheap lunch then it definitely edges towards the top of my list and makes other chains like Costa and Starbucks look far less interesting.

Yes, I’ll be coming back to Muffin Break: not because of the food, which was EXCELLENT, but because of the service. Everybody in this wee café, which is franchisee-owned and operated, seems determined to go out of their way for the customer — the last time I felt this welcome I was in my own house, in my pants. The place stocks a lovely range of fresh toasties and panini(and, I was told when I did my usual querying about mayonnaise, they’d be happy to make you something up if you didn’t like something) and delicious-looking cakes. Not just muffins then — but WHATMUFFINS. Huge, fluffy things including daily specials, luxury creations and at least two gluten-free options(they also do dairy-free, although had run out when I visited — more were on the way though). Coffee was decent, toilets were sparkling clean, tables were wiped quickly once vacated. Cannot fault the place.

I’m so excited to be eating a gluten free muffin right now! This wee muffin shop is across from Boots in St. Enoch shopping centre. They’ve got a sign that says they also do a dairy free range of muffins. In addition to about 10 or so different varieties of muffins, including two gluten free options, they have sandwiches, soups, cakes and coffee. Can’t wait to try more!
