I’m surprised there is not a lot more reviews of this place. I have been here for beers countless times in the past. I actually consider it a bit of a Glasgow institution. It’s also hard to miss when you go past and the huge skull and cross bones flag is fluttering in the wind. The music on offer is usually pretty eclectic with a huge variety of tunes getting played and it is well known as a gig venue with loads of interesting bands on offer. It’s also known to be a Celtic pub and on big game days it can be pretty rammed with people who are watching the game. It is a relaxed atmosphere though and has a more laid back crowd that some of the other celtic bars not to far away. Well worth a pint of your in the area.

If you like going to a pub where you can’t hear what anybody is saying because the owner plays music you’ve heard a million times at an ear-splitting volume and tells you to eff off if you ask him to turn it down a notch this is place for you.

I hadn’t been in here in years. Not a figure of speech, literally YEARS. I was walking by, as you do, and decided to pop in for a pint. It doesn’t seem to have changed much over the years, and that’s no bad thing. With the big arched roof and long, narrow bar space it’s all very welcoming. I ordered a pint of Brooklyn Beer, on tap no less, and sat down to take in the atmosphere. A very mixed crowd, students, sharp suited business types, hipsters… some in on dates(I presume, I’m not a stalker or anything) and some in just to play pool or shoot the breeze with friends, or just like me, Billy No Mates looking for something to do. They had live French football on the TVs dotted around the bar, and I’ve heard it’s a good football bar to see almost every game going. When I was in, there was a DJ on playing a fantastic selection of 60s soul/RnB classics, all Atlantic and Stax Volt stuff. If I wasn’t heading for a train, I’d have happily stayed longer. I don’t think it’ll be years before I’m back here.

Authentic Glasgow Pub, no nonsense. If you are not sure where it is, its on High Street and has an unmistakable pirate flag hanging from a flagpole over the pavement :) Live Music almost Friday/Weekend — mainly MOD, but a great atmosphere and a friendly crowd when McChuills has any event on. Friendly Staff, Big TV’s to cover most angles of the main section of the pub. Pool table normally doesn’t have too long a wait. so good place to watch the football. BRINGCASH — NOCHIPANDPINFACILITIES on the fringe of Merchant City, so on a Friday especially, a logical and economical starting point to any successful night out in that part of Glasgow.

This is a bit of a shocker for me to be honest. Now to start off lets everybody be honest and say that as drinkers we tend to find an area we like and stick to it. Now if it stopped there all would be well, but as the clan like people we are, we tend to find an area, stick to it and try our very best to belittle any other area is grubby, rubbish, mental or just plain pish… now if i’m the only one nodding at this point… well i apologise. This place however has me thinking otherwise. Its eccentric, funky, welcoming and just plain good… plus its in an area where you just plain don’t expect it to be. Stick this joint int the west end and you have yourself a wender hotspot… leave it here and its a cult favorite… leave it here.

Walk into McChuills on a Monday evening and enjoy a leisurely drink with only the barmaid for company. Return on Friday and jostle to the front of a lengthy queue — spending your night sandwiching past other punters and treading on their toes. This place definitely has the Jekyll and Hyde factor. Whenever you do decide to pay a visit, you’ll walk into a sassy pub; one staying true to its roots. With large televisions, live bands and a pool table, there’s certainly real character to be found. Despite being in view of Argyle Street, the vibe suggests it won’t be long before you’re asking for ‘the usual’. Deserving of four stars.

Nice little bar, catering more to the Irish Celtic following at times! Always good to nip in for a few drinks or some food and if in luck a band playing, Good crowd, friendly staff and good music.

This place used to be one the best bars in the whole of the city. I’ve spent many a brilliant evening there, and listened to some amazing bands. Hugh Reed and the Velvet Underpants were always outstanding when they played here and so were the Counterfeit Clash. The food was always really good, and good value as well. It was always a good place to go to watch football matches, although you need to get in early because it’s always packed out! The staff are friendly, the music is good and the beer is cold, what more do you need?
