Matilda’s Deli is a quick, express style lunch, take-away type café right next to Central Station. They already have a pretty successful place on Byres Road in the West End so this is likely to be a great spot for these guys with the hoards of commuters and office workers looking for a quick bite to eat. Its not the most inspirational looking of places, and despite offering a few stools and benches, isn’t really the kind of place I would want to spend my lunch break. This is definitely a take-away spot and not a place to hang and chill. Matilda’s Deli is significantly cheaper than its sister store in the West End. In fact, I would go as far to say its pretty darn cheap considering. They do various offers like home-made soups and half baguette for £3.95, filled baked tatties for £3.95 and they also have a cracking ‘early bird’ deal where you can buy a sandwich & drink for £3.50 before 10am(perfect for missing the lunchtime rush). I’ve only visited on one occasion so far and opted for the daily special of Thai Veggie Curry for a very reasonable £4.50. The portion was decent, although the food itself was slighly underwhelming. My main gripe, an over abundance of creamy sauce and virtually no veggies. Thankfully the good amount of rice helped satisfy my rumbling tum. I cannot help but think I just made a bad choice for lunch and spying the sandwiches, yummy soups and baguettes I think I could have had a much better lunch if I’d been more rigorous with my selection. There is no doubt I will be back, and hopefully I will be able to heap more praise on the food next time I visit!
