A shame, I really thought Juan Chihuahua was going to be successful, but hey things could be worse, this place also does Mexican… and other Latin American cuisines as a gavvy bonus! A huge multi-storey place, hopefully it’s new incarnation as a Latino club-bar-restaurant will mean it pulls in the necessary punters. We walked into the small bar-area, deftly dodging a waiting photographer to dive into a booth. The walls are fantastic, colourful latino-themed graffiti covers them, and the thumping music I’d heard and worried about was subtle and subdued that night. A relaxed, friendly vibe settled over us, with an unnerving photographer thrown in. I ordered a Tamali as written on the menu. Yes it is traditionally spelt Tamali, I checked, Tamale is the English version. I also ordered Parilliada, which is mixed barbecue meat with roast peppers. My partner went for the small plates option. I liked it all and so did she. The spicing was unusual to my palette, both of the corn dough leaf-wrapped tamali and of the meats in the main. The meats were all tender, I would have liked them a bit rarer but the quality was good. The main thing I could criticise was that the peppers were cold, and a bit slimy, but beyond that everything else was fine.

I was looking forward to Mango opening, this area has gone down hill in the past few years with a poor standard of food offerings that was getting pretty bad. I’m not sure on the opening times but when I do walk past there are no customers in view, maybe they are late eaters. Like the last place that was here it’s too full on with bright colours, and they seen to have concentrated more on that than the style of food that they are trying to aim for. There is a menu deal on three tapas for £4.00, but that is only served during certain hours, I chose three items at £3.95 each Calamari, chicken wings & some potato dough ball things. With all, the items that l had I would have said that they where all bought in items and not home made, maybe it’s because they are still looking for a chef. The food was ok, it was passable, I will try again at a later date.
