Library at GOMA

For some reason I had no idea there was still a public library in this building! Located in the basement, there’s a good range of books, a café, comfy couches and tables dotted around, and computers for public use (with library card).

I like GOMA library because it has a great range of Glasgow and Scotland books. The range of magazines is huge– back issues are also available. The café does good lunchtime snacks and quality coffee. There are PCs for public use, and wifi. Handy copying and printing facilities. Could do with some more «space to work» as there are not many desks/​tables. Staff are always helpful. There are book and writing groups too.

One of my regular library haunts which has a good selection of books as well as cds/​dvds, the free computers to use (if you have a library card), a café and a variety of groups meet here inc book & writers groups.
Sadly there is no free Wi-​Fi at the moment and the staff could be friendlier but they’re just small points for me. More important and the reason why it doesn’t have 5 stars, is because they only open one evening a week. A city centre library should be open a few more evenings so those of us who work can use it more often. I’m sure there must be a way of closing off the art gallery so this can happen.
Anyhoo, it is worth a visit as the sections also include graphic novels, modern classics, lgbt literature and everything in between. They can also order in books from other libraries.

Great selection of books but the PCs do tend to struggle greatly or fail altogether when your trying to watch something On the BBC iPlayer service ((Internet explorer) standard resolution). So as such don’t expect to do anything more tasking than typing up a cvs & cover letters & reading emails (you need to use google chrome to read msn emails).

Armed with my new Glasgow library card, I ventured into this place.
Computer access with my new card plus free wifi AND lots of books makes it a strong contender for a repeat purchase or three, particularly given its good location.
It’s quite busy during the day and has a good buzz about it, more like a café with books than a library with a café.
Depending on what you’re after, this will either be good or bad.
A handy wee place I can see me going to alot over the summer.

Colour me frustrated, stick a fork in my eye and kick me in the nether regions repeatably until i sing the theme tune to «The Snowman» the way it was always meant to be sung… Why Chris, Why??? Nothing really, i’m just a tad pissed at the distinct lack of Internet access and free WIFI (hear that Star *ucks, that word, what was it… oh free? never heard of it have we?) in the city centre area…
Good God! What’s that bright light descending from the sky, that heavenly music… is that the GOMA… yes, yes its shining in the GOMA… aha, All hail the library at the GOMA.
Stuck in Glasgow city centre on the hunt for free Internet access? Well as long as your armed with your library card then your free to hop onto one of the 20 or so computers and surf away!!! Located in the down stairs library section of the Gallery of Modern Art, nestled on the far end behind a bank of books and a wee café section, this is an excellent service once again from the Glasgow library services…

Tucked away in the basement floor of the GOMA, there’s a little Library with in built café for enjoyment at your leisure. The facilities of the Library is fantastic — internet, books and the like, and I love the idea of a Library within a Gallery which is also slap bang in the centre of town — a little quiet escape from the hustle and bustle outside.
However, don’t give much thought to chilling out in the café — while I can see the idea is good, the layout and offerings of the café itself are not in keeping with the vibe of a library and not at all comfy. There is a couple of sofas, but when they’re full, all you’ve got to resort to is some of those cheap and nasty breakfast bar chairs, with equally offensive high rise tables. How can you relax in a set up like that when there’s an ever present fear of getting too absorbed in a book and tipping over in your chair?
