Two meals for £5? Cocktails at £2.99? Hello, my name is Steven. How are you? We met on good terms, me and Lakota, but the food wasn’t overwhelming. I reminded myself it was super cheap, and to that end it was value for money. It was pretty busy, to be fair, possibly because it was so cheap! The cocktails were decent, I won’t argue. Had a decent chat with one of the gals at the bar who was in a chipper mood. Always helps. I didn’t feel comfortable to stay long after my meal with a curious mix of people in the place. For marginally dearer food, and CHEAPER cocktails, this place pales in comparison to Commission Rooms 9, my new favourite place.

What happened to Edward’s? Edward’s was a place close to my heart, with many a happy memory. Happy, hazy, dunken memories… Thankfully, Lakota isn’t too different from Edward’s. The atmosphere is quite fresh, the cocktails are reasonably priced and reasonable tasting. Being a city-centre bar, it doesn’t quite achieve the style it’s trying for, but it’s an alright place for a couple of drinks. I’m just upset they didn’t ask me before they changed it to Lakota. Daft name anyway.

Lakota is a strange place. Not strange in a bad way though… Cheap cocktails(Raspberry Collins is awesome), food and drinks make this place popular with a wide crowd, however, it’s hyped up to be something it’s not. Yes, it’s great for drinks and cheap food. Yes, the music is great. Yes, it has a dance floor. But it just feels a bit like they couldn’t decide what the place was meant to be, so they covered it from all angles — it’s very ‘cool’ and ‘trendy’(a cocktail named after the Kings of Leon… will that get old??? Yes). The clientele were a bit questionable(mutton dressed as lamb — sorry ladies, if you’re over 40, mini skirts are a no-no). I’ve only been in once, and it seemed slightly chaotic. The bar staff obviously knew what they were doing, but the waiting staff just seemed confused. Maybe it’s because it was very, very busy? I don’t know. Apart from that, the music was brilliant(cheese-o-rama), and the drinks were decent — a good start to a night out. As long as you take it at face value, you’ll get on fine in Lakota.
