Do you know what for a doughnut shop that has been so long awaited I would have expected more. The staff seemed nice but don’t seem particularly proactive at promoting the brand and products. The day I went it wasn’t particularly busy but the staff seemed rather disorganised and unable to effectively manage the queue. There is a drive through facility however it is a right pain to get to in the car as it is right next to the bus stops. To be fair this isn’t so much an issue with the store more that it is the old repurposed clydebuilt museum that was never intended to have cars at it. All in all it an overpriced American doughnut shop on the river Clyde.

So walking in to Krispy Kreme for the first time is like walking in to Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory. Cos there literally IS a mini factory in it, where all the donuts are made, and, sadly, where some fallen soldiers never see daylight. It’s a wee bit intimidating when you’ve never been in before, and your bus is due in 7 minutes, but thankfully there’s a handy little express counter where you can pick up a mixed or standard dozen. The production line is at the rear of the store, although there was no decoration going on when we were in. Which, let’s face it, is the most exciting part. They have a seating area if you can’t wait till you get home, and serve tea and coffee. Also, I’ve been duly informed that their drive through is 24 hours!

How long has this review taken me?! WHY has it taken me so long? Who knows. Okay, so here’s the DL(that’s the down low) — I have yet to try a doughnut in Glasgow which makes me as happy as a KK donut. There I said it. How can you not love them? Carolyn E. and I decided to go on one of our adventures and we ended up coming here when it was quite newly opened. The place was buzzing with people and although we were not one of the lucky patrons who were given a free donut for waiting in line patiently(we did), we were able to watch doughnuts being made(oh yes, they bake their own doughnuts here and you can watch in the donut theatre — it’s a big window in the wall and on the other side you see the manufacturing room and the people hand-glazing the donuts). What I would like to know is what happens with the donuts which don’t make it past inspection. Poor darlings. We ended up buying an insane amount of donuts — we each ended up coming home with 6 plain glazed each, and then I went for the following six: Reese’s Peanut Butter, Lotus Caramelised Biscoff, Chocolate Sprinkles, Cookie Crunch and I think it was a caramel something. That’s a total of 12 donuts for one person, I won’t lie — I made a pretty good effort in eating them, I only gave one of the plain glazed one’s away(purely educational purposes, I promise), three plain glazed are still in my freezer(because Angela B. says you can freeze them) and the rest I think I ate myself — one of them, the caramel one, even ended up as my breakfast at baggage claim at Kuala Lumpur International Airport while I was waiting on my friends to arrive — see, KK donuts even do transcontinental travel well. Even though some of them are filled, which isn’t my favourite of things, these are delicious and exceptional and Iove them, even though nothing can compete with a original, plain glazed one. Even with teenagers and adults on a sugar-high, the staff remain friendly and the place was relatively clean and tidy. They also have a 24 hour donut drive through. Now, why this is necessary I will never understand but it’s pretty cool anyways, and yes, I have been that person(don’t worry I wasn’t alone — I’m not that crazy about them) and having been that person, I might be that person again sometime. I’ll definitely be the person to run through the rain again to get KK donuts.

Since long time ago I wanted to try the doughnuts from Krispy kreme! And the experience was awesome! They couldn’t be more tasty, made just two minutes before you order them, and while you are waiting on the queu the staff offer you free doughnuts to try. The baking process it’s fantastic because you can see every step of it. I want to go every single day ;)

Dozen glazed donuts are only £9.50 and are normally £1.50 each, so they are almost half price if you are getting 12!

I have never had a Krispy Kreme donut before… It’s taken me a month to get to their Glasgow store despite bookmarking it when it opened! I remember the old museum which the Krispy Kreme is now in, this is perhaps a little like a doughnut museum as you can watch conveyors of donuts being made and decorated, and then queue up at the souvenir stand to take them away ;) Approaching from the bus station in the evening, Krispy Kreme is all lit up and looks really inviting. Even on a dreich monday evening it was pretty busy. The staff were really friendly and I was amazed at the huge selection of treats available, they looked so pretty in the cabinets. I also noticed they sell indulgent milkshakes and coffee, which I would like to go back and try. I headed to Krispy Kreme today because I had an email saying they were doing a special offer on Valentines donuts, buy one get one free on honeybee and lovebug. My hubby has also not tried these donuts before so I bought two to take home. So what did we think of the doughnuts? Firstly, they look so pretty and I loved the novelty heart shape. both were different flavours; honeybee was vanilla icing with chocolate filling, lovebug was raspberry icing and strawberry filling. We had half and half, so tried both(interestingly we both had a different favourite!). The honeybee icing wasn’t that flavoured but was beautifully decorated, and the chocolate mousse filling was really rich. The lovebug has a sweet and delicious filling which reminded me of the little frozen mousse pots I used to buy when I was little. it was very sweet! All in all, enjoyed our lovely doughnuts but it is £1.90 per doughnut which is why I’m giving a little less stars than I could, it seems like quite a lot of money for one doughnut(although we had 2 for that price). Would go back to Krispy Kreme for a treat though.

I was ecstatic when they announced their Glasgow store, it saves me driving through to Edinburgh to get them! As busy as this store can be, I’ve never waited longer than 5 minutes, and the staff are friendly and pleasant.

Ok ok ok, Sophie K and I decided we were going to Braehead for a day/night of shopping for various things and as it so happens, this Krispie Kreme has just opened so after our day out, we braved the incredibly blustery weather and waited in line to buy some doughnuts(as they spell them). We weren’t in line for very long, even though the line was wrapped around the seating area and out the door. While in line, they had loads of things to keep you occupied from free doughnuts(we weren’t able to snag one because we were already to the purchasing counter by the time they brought some out) to little things like doughnuts and«i love krispie kreme’ on sticks to take selfies with. Sophie K and I are all about the selfies so we took them up on that offer. While in line, you’re given an up close and personal view of how exactly the doughnuts are made, cooked, iced, and decorated. Being a new shop and with so much excitement going on, all the machinery and people working on the doughnuts were going a million miles an hour to cater to the crazy amount of people waiting for some doughnuts. Luckily there is so much seating, once you get your doughnuts, you can just sit and enjoy at your leisure. There were so many people in here and unlike one person who posted on a news report of the opening, I didn’t see any«overweight zombies» waiting in line for doughnuts. Instead, there were loads… LOADS of teenagers hyped up on sugar, families with wee kids enjoying some doughnut delights, people just off from work, and just your run of the mill people, looking to score some doughnuts just like we were. They have an amazing deal, which you’d be silly to pass on. It’s called the double dozen. For £15.95(just a few pounds more than it cost for one dozen), you get two dozen doughnuts– one dozen glazed, one dozen of your choosing. Sophie K and I decided to go in on that deal and got some awesome sounding doughnuts. The staff at krispie kreme are so great and helpful, they split our dozen in to 4 boxes, 6 doughnuts to a box so we could take our own doughnuts home. How cool– small enough boxes to fit just about anywhere. We almost went for the same kind of doughnuts, although Sophie K and I aren’t big on filled doughnuts, my guy loves them. So, I went for a strawberry glossed, a cookie crunch, a caramel ice ring, a reeces peanut butter, a chocolate custard and a chocolate truffle parcel(a christmas doughnut). Mmmm, doughnuts. My guy and I have managed only to scarf one a piece, but no telling how long that will last. I’m hoping that Krispie Kreme sticks around for a while so I can always get my doughnut fix. Being a lover a doughnuts from the states, I’ve yet to find a doughnut here that tickles my fancy, but krispie kreme comes very close.

Well, the long-awaited day finally came; the opening of Glasgow’s very own Krispy Kreme! Why I wasn’t invited to their VIP pre-opening event I’ll never know as I was one of their biggest champions for opening a shop in jolly old Glasgow, but anyway, bitterness aside(I’m only jesting!), I didn’t go on the 1st day as I am not a big fan of queueing for ages. Especially in the cold and rain. No ta. So on Day 2 of GKK(Glasgow’s Krispy Kreme) I pootled along in the, yes you guessed, cold and rain to check out what is apparently the UK’s biggest KK store. Wow. Certainly from the outside its a beast of a store — situated in the old Clydebuilt Maritime museum at Braehead, to the right of M&S, it comprises of a decent sized sit in part and also a large Drive Thru to the right. For now the sit in is open from 7am — 10:30pm but I think the Drive Thru is 24 hour, handy for all those midnight munchies moments. I must admit it seemed much smaller inside than I imagined it to be… There’s seating for about 30⁄40 folk I think. What makes this one different to the Edinburgh and other Hotlight KK stores I’ve seen is that this one has a Speedy Counter(not the official name may I add!) — this is situated to the right as you walk in and this sells only the pre-boxed Original Glazed or pre-picked assorted dozen. Its a great idea for those in a hurry and also for those of us that like to just to take our time perusing the doughnutty delights, we don’t get to feel hurried by those that just want 12(or 24 or more… Doughnut Party anyone?!) to go, in a hurry. They really need that dough, man. Obviously it’s still very early days but the staff were doing a pretty good job of keeping folk informed/amused/pumped up in the queue. I wasn’t queuing for long at all but whilst in the queue I was given a free mini Strawberry Kremeshake(which was really good!) and a wee handy, pocket-sized Doughnut Guide, should you ever wish to make your own version of KK Top Trumps or go on Mastermind with KK as your specialist subject or summat. I was happy sad again when reading the menu as they’ve got rid of the deliciously dreamy Vanilla Cheesecake doughnut which I’ve only just discovered but they have brought back my favourite — the Caramel Iced Ring! Yas! You beauty! In my opinion there are too many chocolate based ones but, that’s just what I think and my taste. I’d like to see a bit more in the way of different flavours and them have some of the ones they sell in the US, such as the Red Velvet doughnut! HOLLA! I’d love that. Another improvement I’d make is offer a deal on a box of 6 as sometimes 3’s not enough but 12 is way too many… Individual doughnuts are priced from around £1.45 up to £11.95 for an assorted, pick-your-own dozen(what I usually get). They had an offer on just now that’s buy a dozen and get another dozen Original Glazed dognuts(as my Dad used to call them) for only an extra few quid(£15 something for 24 doughnuts) The lady serving said they freeze well which I didn’t know but I don’t have space in my teeny freezer for 12 doughnuts sadly… If you’ve never been to a Hotlight store then you’ll be pleased to see you get to watch the doughnuts getting made in the ‘Doughnut Theatre’, its pretty cool and slightly mesmerising… mmm…dough… Also you get to try their coffee or milkshakes and buy their merch too should you wish too. It’s a 5 stars from me now. I have high hopes for this place and can’t wait to hear when their Hotlight Happy Hour will be. As Homer would say; Doh…(Nuts).
