John Lewis

John Lewis in Buchanan Galleries is a pleasant store to browse, and I also use it as a short cut from Buchanan Bus Station through to the Galleries sometimes. I am a fan of John Lewis generally, this store has a huge range of pretty much everything you could need for your home as well as clothing, electricals and gifts, with a make-​up and cosmetics area as well.
My favourite things in the store are:
–the gifts section (ground floor/​1? the one which you enter at from Buchanan Street) which often has foodie items including currently a huge selection of Christmas chocolates and Italian cookery items
–cards and stationery (same floor) where there a limited range, but what they do have seems quite unusual
–Origins (same floor) with its natural pampering products
-‘occasionwear’ (floor above) where beautiful dresses of various prices (and sizes) beg to be tried on
–health and fitness goodies (basement) where branded and John Lewis swimsuits, tops and leggings are available, with bags and shoes too
–kitchenware (basement) where coffee machines and posh pans site next to interesting kitchen accessories that you did not know you needed
–technology (upper floor) with very knowledgeable staff to help you out, and often a bargain or two
–furniture (same floor) which always looks beautiful and inspirational, and bedding which has some beautiful quilt covers and some organic and Egyptian Cotton ranges
The café used to be a lunch stop of mine occasionally (the freshly made in front of you stir fry, then sitting overlooking Buchanan Street), though I have not visited in a long while. I have purchased a fair few items from this store over the years, and enjoy visiting, my highlights appear to cover the whole shop!

John Lewis is a nice shop in person, but their delivery service is unacceptable. It took a week for a delivery date, which wasn’t so bad and the wide range of possible delivery times (7am — 2pm) was about what you expect from a big company. However, they completely failed to show up during that time period. When I called to inquire, I was told that the drivers had attempted delivery but failed, which I found curious considering that I had been waiting all day in the flat. In the store and by text, I was told that I would receive a call 30 minutes before delivery. That never happened.
The representative on the phone said that the driver had called and left a message — absolutely untrue. No records of any missed call or voicemail on my phone.
Even if somehow the phone inexplicably failed, the drivers are also supposed to leave a note on the door saying that they attempted delivery — they did not.
My suspicion is that the delivery pushed up against the end of somebody’s shift and they decided it wasn’t worth the hassle. Then the driver lied to the operator about having attempted delivery — there is absolutely no evidence of any attempt at delivery. No phone call, no rung buzzer, no missed delivery notice.
Even worse, John Lewis never would have even notified me of the failed delivery. It took me calling to find out that they were not coming… now I have to wait another week and either take most of a day off work or spend my weekend waiting for a delivery that may never arrive if the driver feels like taking off early. This was for purchases valued over 1000 pounds.
I wish there were another option in Glasgow.

Its somewhat worrying but I’ve become on of those people who like to shop in John Lewis.
I’m not a big department store fan, they’re often jam packed with things, with far too much choice and too busy. However, John Lewis always feels well organised and laid out, with room to browse and isn’t overpacked with products.
The gift section is always worth a look for some interesting ideas. They stock a good range of foodie gifts (including some Hotel Chocolat), a lovely range of cards and stationery.
The ladies clothing department have some great brands like Coast and Reiss and at the end of the season its worth looking out for the sale section where I’ve picked up a few bargains along the way. As someone who has an increasing dislike for clothes shopping the department is ideal — you can see what you’re looking at without having to rake and rumble.
Other departments including the pictures and framing, kitchen and tableware are good for a wander and picking up some nice pieces.
I’ve never found it anymore expensive than elsewhere, and they have a great refund and guarantee which is especially good when buying expensive electronics.

Oh man, I love this store. I don’t shop here as much as I would love to, but my guy and I wound up in here with his sister one night before Christmas as she wanted some company to finish her Christmas shopping.
This store is amazing, I love the way it’s laid out and if there’s any shop that reminds me of the department stores in America, then it’s John Lewis.
The cosmetic counters are bright and illuminated, they have a particular section for gifts as well that I always need to browse, even if I’m not buying a gift. Basically, you can find anything for anyone in this section. There are chocolate gifts, gardening gifts, gamer gifts, comic lover gifts, etc. I have to convince myself every time I step foot in the store that it’s not about me… although I would really love to buy the store out.
My favourite floor on John Lewis is the bottom floor which has all the home stuff. The kitchen area is especially great, with all it’s gadgets and things foodies like myself would love to own.
My guy and I, in the past, have even perused their home furnishing section for a good quality bookcase. I always joke with him that I must not have lived an adult life before now, because the prices of most of the furniture here would have been well out of my budget in my past lives. He laughs because I call him a proper adult.
Anyway, this really is the shop of all shops and I love it here. I could spend hours in here and so should you.

I went into John Lewis for a quick bite to eat. I chose the cream of broccoli & Stilton soup which was delicious. I loved the bowl that the soup was served in. It came with a lid which kept the contents within warm and also stopped it from spilling. Very clever idea, which other coffee shops should adopt. The soup was accompanied by a chunk of bread which was soft. It was slightly more expensive than other cafes. I then had a lovely cappuccino to follow with a triple chocolate muffin which was gorgeous. The selection of cakes on offer was ok. More tray bakes than anything else. I would like to have seen more cakes — perhaps red velvet cake, carrot cakes, Danishes etc
The coffee shop was pretty busy but we managed to get a table easily. The staff were pleasant at the serving area but certainly not intrusive. I will definitely return.

I love John Lewis. I always feel terribly posh shopping here — I know forgive me and my teuchter tendencies. From the over made up cosmetic ladies on the ground floor to the poor sods relegated to the customer collection department way in the back the staff are friendly, polite and helpful.
It has to be one of the most convenient of the Glasgow department stores. Level 5 of the Buchanan Galleries car park and I can even leave g in the husband crèche — the electronics department!
The shop is always clean and tidy and I always manage to find an assistant within minutes if I need help — not so in other stores!
The fact that I now have a my John Lewis card and get free coffee and cake every month really is the icing on the cake. It might not be the best coffee in Glasgow but if you are lucky enough to get seat by the window then the view across the concert hall steps and up Sauchiehall Street is spectacular and prime people watching territory.

John Lewis has been my favourite shop for buying electrical appliances since it opened in Glasgow. However I am dismayed and extremely angry that for my Miele washing machine there is only one person in Glasgow who can repair it. I booked a repair this morning, June 9 and the earliest time is June 23. Very poor. Perhaps before buying an appliance customers would be wise to make enquiries about how easily repairs can be carried out. (it seems that no stars for this are not an option…)

Got my John Lewis card and vouchers for a free coffee and cake.
Been in twice just to make sure i was not dreaming the whole thing.
Ok keeping it short — tried the chocco cake and choc chip muffins — god trhe worst ever — hard, tasteless and inedible like eating dried Camel dung.
Being a bit of a coffee connoiseur I can tell you the coffee tasted like stewed tea with horlicks added.
All I can say is thank feck it was free.
The only saving grace was the free broadband.
As to the store — Maybe I am out of touch but the mens shirts at the entrance costing £85 are not exactly Armani or CK quality — Beer tumblers at £12 and a washing maching at over a £1000 — Who shops in this place?
Must be the home to Newton Mearns and other posh nobs with loads of money and no class or style.
Over priced posh nobs gaff is my summary.
Thanks but I will stick to Frasers if I want to empty my wallet buying posers gear and trying to impress the next door neighbour.

A really great shopping experience. We were originally going to Mothercare but they apparently closed down. I’m actually glad because they had similar priced items and the clerk was super helpful. We had to buy a cotbed, mattress, sheets and we perused pushchairs. It was a great accidental visit.

i am a massive john lewis fan (just read my review of the edinburgh store), but i’m not sure that all john lewis’ are created equal. i feel that this glasgow branch while still massive with pretty much everything you could possibly ever need, just isn’t quite as nice as the edinburgh branch. there are less windows which makes it look a bit dark and the layout for some reason makes it feel a bit cramped. i may be wrong but i actually think this shop is smaller than the edinburgh one…
but it’s still john lewis and it still has everything that makes me happy in one place. shoes, handbags, make up, clothes, ipods, laptops, couch cushions, haberdashery, candles, and fancy tea pots and tea cups. so still a really great place if you’re looking for well anything that you may need in life.

John Lewis a store that sell’s everything but british product’s no wonder this country is in a bad way i am a person who like’s to know where the items that i’m purchasing comes from, by lifting the product and underneath says where it was made. I found a wooden light house for £60 and thought this was a god but till l lifted it and saw the made in china stamp, shock horror as l put it back down looks as if they think that they can charge Harrods prices for items made in sweat shops no thank you will rather shop else where. No wonder there are no jobs in the uk if they import every thing from cheap labour countries.

Always worth a stroll through as you are guaranteed to see something you did not know you could not live without. The kitchen department is the current favourite.

John Lewis Glasgow is clean and tidy and sells absolutely everything. If I wanted a mid-​priced product that was quality and tasteful and understated, that is where I would buy it. They even sell a wide (if a bit expensive) variety of Rowan yarns. When I was living in Birmingham, I missed having a convenient John Lewis for that reason and many others.
In other areas, we had our wedding gift list at JL, and they were fabulously good with regards to customer service. Without a grumble, they posted things that were only available online and were happy to give vouchers for something that had been discontinued. Delivery was also prompt.
Now, if some of our JL cookware falls apart, this review may change. I just don’t think it’s likely.

My favourite of all the department stores in Glasgow, John Lewis offers choice, value and a level of customer service that puts others to shame. I’ve bought a number of electrical and electronic products from here and been really impressed with the attentiveness (if not always, to be honest, the detailed specialist knowledge) of the staff. Furthermore, they’ve price-​matched two televisions that I’ve bought here (meaning that they offered the best price available anywhere) and further sweetened the deal with their standard 5 year warranty.
When buying baby related products in the recent past the level of insight from the staff has been consistently excellent, extending beyond simple product information to hints and tips about how best to approach bed, bath and dinner time with a new born. They also retrospectively price matched a car seat available from the Glasgow Pram Centre, refunding the cash difference after I told them about the competing deal.
A cut above the likes of Debenhams and less prone to snootiness than Frasers I would say.

Another up market department store John Lewis has it all; cosmetics, home ware, electrical goods, clothing and much more. It’s a one stop shop for gifts but most items don’t come cheap. There are always plenty of staff floating around if you need a hand choosing a new duvet set or home appliance and they can order items in for you if they don’t have them in stock.
Although I like a lot of the brands that John Lewis stocks I never ever go here, I usually head to House of Frasers down the road instead. I find that House of Frasers is in a nicer building and it feels more opulent than John Lewis. I tend to find JL a little bit soulless and the super bright lighting makes it rather uninviting and it completely lacks any kind of character or atmosphere.

I love John Lewis.
It’s perhaps even more expensive than Debenhams, but has a much better selection of lovely stationary and some great menswear including suits that make me come back.
They have some great kitchenware and it’s just one of those comfy stores like Woolworths that make you feel fuzzy inside.
No-​one bothers you other than in the frangrance section so you can stroll around looking at cool things you wont ever buy, but like to think that you will. One day.
Such a great department store.
Debenhams VS John Lewis.
Hmm. I like both.

John Lewis is a fabulous big department store, with painted ladies waiting to greet you as you enter, the stench of powder and parfum all around. The beauty department here is wonderful, with the biggest brands and most luxurious of products to splash out on, or at least, treat yourself to a good helping of their testers.
There are several floors to this store, with everything including fashion, fragrance, footwear and all things fancy. A firm favourite with mums, John Lewis is a luxurious one stop shop for gorgeous gifts for others, or indeed for one’s self.
Upstairs you’ll find a great little haberdashery department, with all sorts of buttons and bobbins to add a little special something to your garments. Then you’ll find the John Lewis Restaurant, which is worth a visit in its own right. Serving up some very delicious dishes that wouldn’t be out of place in a high class eatery, it’s the perfect place to end your day of fabulousness.

I am a big fan of John Lewis in general — and this branch does not disappoint. In fact, I’m pretty sure it grows a whole extra floor every time I visit.
You’ll find everything here, with departments housing shoes, fashion, handbags, make-​up, electronics, luggage, gifts, homeware, furniture, children’s toys… the list goes on but I feel that I should stop here. I’m pretty sure you’ve all got the gist of what I’m getting at.
My boyfriend laughs at me because I have an unnatural love of my favourite of these departments — the haberdashery department. I very rarely buy anything from it, but I still rush at every opportunity to float around between the aisles of fabric and needles and zips and adornments. And this isn’t because I’m a keen seamstress (in fact, I’m generally a bit of a failure in that department) its more out of a believe that the world must still fundamentally be a good place if the haberdashery department in John Lewis still exists.
Now, what was I talking about again?!

John Lewis is a large department store where the staff are friendly and they are never beaten on price (they have a price match policy, in which they are never knowingly undersold).
So if you know what you want John Lewis is a good bet, there prices are good, the staff take you to the product if you are in the right department and the store is easy to navigate. If they don’t have something in stock they can have it delivered to your door.
He only downer is the shop is big as you would expect from a department store and tricky to navigate if you are a first timer, it’s often quite busy with mums and grandparents for whom a visit is a weekly occurrence.
Their home section is pretty cool only not if you’re on a budget!
The shop is a partnership so everybody who works here gets a slice of the profits and an opportunity to have their say which is a nice ethic.
