This is one of the larger organic shops in these parts but the price tag is pretty darn hefty in comparison to Roots & Fruits for example. I kept picking things up, noticing the price and putting them down, I will always pay more if I know I am getting good quality but £3 for a handful of sesame breadsticks is just silly. The staff were not too friendly, but not out and out hostile either so no major complaints there. Grassroots tips over the fine line from nice foody place to lifestyle choice in my humble opinion. Its the gastronomic Barbour jacket/Hunter welly /etc

This health food store has gone through a lot of changes and the staff reflects that. You are really rolling the dice when you walk into this place. The face staring back at you while you hold your organic berry tea and vegan sausages may be a welcoming healthy youngster or a tattooed crone who hates your guts. Or vice versa a tattoed welcoming oldster or a twenty year with a chip the size of the M8. You just will not know till you start to try and pay. Good luck

first up when you compare prices with any European country this place is extortionate but since there’s not many places like this around and as a rule we don’t know any better its fine to charge twice the price if not more than our European counterparts will pay for a similar product half as good as a market in Europe 100 X better than a similar product from tesco is good but i wouldn’t do my weekly shop here unless i was minted or a fake snob my girlfriend loves it since shes German but she hates the prices i find it grate quality but ridiculously pricey but no more than similar stores

As much as I LOVE living in Glasgow, there are a few things that I miss most about the good olé USA. Two being: Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s. Now Whole Foods has actually expanded into the UK, but only in London with 5 locations. Curses!!! I only discovered this when I was out and about late at night in Kensington, and was way more excited to see a Whole Foods in the UK than actually going out. Sad, I know. On my quest to find suitable replacements, I frequent the farmers’ markets, Roots and Fruits, and really love Waitrose in the West End. Now I have another to add to my list: Grassroots! Grassroots is along Woodlands Road, and occupies a pretty significant space. The store is actually divided into 2 sections. My favourite section is where all the food is! They offer a vast selection of great quality whole foods. There is quite a variety of vegan, vegetarian, wheat & gluten free, organic(woohoo!), and fair-trade products. Produce is of top quality and freshness. The deli is stocked with various meats, cheeses, olives, and other prepared meals(tasty!). There is also an array of non-perishable items, such as flours, rice, pasta, tea and coffee. The other section is devoted to health and beauty, which features eco-friendly products. Although the store is a bit on the pricey side, it’s well worth the money for the quality and value received. The staff is also welcoming and helpful when you need it. Tip: act green… Grassroots offers a refill discount on Ecover and Dr. Bonner’s cleaning and bathroom products. Bring back your empty bottle for a refill, and pay less than the original cost. Save money, save the environment! :-)

Grassroots is split into two halves — a deli, and a health and beauty store. Half one, the deli, consists of a fabulous array of wholesome, organic and fairtrade foody goods. This includes health foods, fruit and veg, dairy and a wide array of coffee and tea. They staff are friendly, the store is attractively laid out and the place has a great smell to it(the kind of smell that makes you hungry — yum yum). It is a little pricey — but I suppose that’s the price you pay for better food.(Fairly bad pun intended). And now on to half number two — the health and beauty section. This is undoubtedly my favourite half, and I could while away quite a decent amount of time wandering from shelf to shelf eying up expensive beauty products. This place is a haven for creams and moisturisers — with loads of great slightly more unusual and quirky brands(not to mention eco friendly). My favourite part about this place is that they stock a huge range of Burt’s Bees products. If you haven’t come across Burt’s Bees yet — your life is empty and meaningless and you need to sort it out. Just joking. But it is the bees knees.(Sorry, couldn’t resist that one either). They also sell some make up products, which, of course, are very environmentally conscious, along with all the vitamins and oils that you could dream off. Again, much more expensive than your average chemist but oh so much nicer. AND I nearly forgot, you can also get beauty treatments here. Bliss!

I do enjoy a wee wander around Grassroots, to pick up some lovely food that is both delicious and will do me some good. I’m particularly fond of miso soup, which can be found here, along with a great selection of bread, houmous, pesto, falafel and lots of other vegetarian delights. You can shop here, safe in the knowledge that every effort has gone into sourcing the freshest in local and organic produce and although it is a little pricier than supermarket shopping, it’s well worth it for the great quality and service that you’ll receive here.

Great vegetarian Christmas menu on the deli this year and the new chef is coming up with some lovely original vegetarian dishes on the deli — the butternut squash gratin and root mash with braised shallots were both delicious. The sweet potato and caramelised red onion bridies also looked good.

This places has all you could ever want from a healthfoods/wholefood shop. The range and variety of stuff they have is amazing — from the deli counter(meats, vegetarian options, cheese, olives, sundried tomatoes etc), to the dried foods(pasta, rice, flour, etc), the place is packed with goodness! As the other reviewer pointed out though, as much as the quality is great, and the food is tasty(organic pizza = amazing), it’s all slightly expensive, so I wouldn’t be doing my weekly shop here, if you get me.

Pretty expensive but good selection of health foods, cosmetics, essential oils, organic foods etc. Nice shop to wander around in, good selection of wheat free breads. Also has lovely home made cakes.
