I wasn’t even sure this place was still open — thankfully it is, as it’s one of my favourite discoveries of 2015 so far. It’s on Victoria Rd, which I don’t go to too often. There’s load of parking on the street though which makes it very handy for a quick lunch. The menu is short but has some good options — sandwiches, a veggie burger and light bites. I went for two dishes in the light bites section — tomato and basil soup, and garlic mushrooms and Parmesan on toast. Food didn’t take long to arrive and I must say — I was pretty stoked with the presentation of the garlic mushrooms as it just looked beautiful. It was on really lovely toast with a soft, chewy crust and there was loads of mushrooms, and garlicky too — delicious. I realised I definitely over-ordered when the soup arrived as it was a massive bowl but I managed to finish most of it. It was nicely flavoured, light on the basil but a deep, rich, warming tomato goodness to it. Service was warm and friendly, and as the café is quite small, they’re never far away! I was treating my friend to lunch as she’s moving away from Glasgow, and it came to a reasonable £20 for lunch for two(she had a burger and coffee). I will be returning here sooner rather than later as it is just a lovely spot for a late lunch. The one criticism I would say is that it is a little chilly inside — but the day we visited was proper baltic maybe it’s just a one off!

Lovely wee café! Had a very tasty Italian Stallion ciabatta(with a massive salad) but lunch here is about much more than the food. Zany mismatched furniture and a wide array of locally produced art set the tone. There’s great banter with friendly, helpful, staff and a really nice laid back atmosphere where you’re made to feel welcome even by the regulars. Can’t wait for next time.

A warm, relaxed vibe from this shabby chic Dutch style café. (sadly without the cannabis menu) Great food at reasonable prices. The sevice was fast and very friendly

I decided since I was up earlier than expected, I took a take a trip down Victoria Road, I need to go to the bank anyway, so after i had deposited my lovely Tax Rebate in said bank, I headed to the café for a spot of breakfast of scrambled egg ‘n toast and a latte, the place was empty, so I read the paper till my food arrived, which i must say looked delish. The latte coffee I thought was a bit on the milky side(I like mine darker) but the service was pleasant. I then proceeded outside with another coffee, and sat in the sunshine, which made a change, I love nothing better than sitting outside a café people watching as they go about their business, and I am off work!!. Yep, I must say I liked this café, it’s relaxing and welcoming, so i will be back, when & if I ever get back down to Victoria Road again.

The Go Slow stands out on Victoria Road(and indeed in Glasgow) as being a decidedly different wee café. While its décor is adventurous and cool, the atmosphere is chilled out, friendly and not self conscious in the slightest. The menu is varied — very healthy, which for Victoria Road adds choice since a lot of the café’s around this neck of the woods specialise in satisfying but unhealthy bacon rolls and such like. There’s plenty of veggie options and takeaway meals like panini’s and sandwiches. The soup is homemade and nothing is too wildly expensive. It was hard to pick out a favourite aspect of Go Slow — the girl who served me was warm and friendly, the drink was good and affordable and the scenery was nice, but the award goes to the decoration in the toilet! The girl told me her friend who is a graffitti artist designed the décor, and I’ve got to say it’s worth making the trip to see that toilet alone. You can’t describe the sketches, so I’ll post up a picture for your perusal. It’s open till the early evening most days but hosts poker nights and music sessions and is a very cool place for the urban hippy to hang out. Without trying to it brings a bit of the Shoreditch vibe to Glasgow’s south side and makes me wish there were most places to go like this! It’s like Tachai ovna’s city slick cousin, which can only be a good thing in my eyes.

Love this place!!! A wonderful find on Victoria Road. Great home-made food, tasty soups and hearty stews, with potato cakes to die for! Funky décor and great friendly chilled out service. Worth a visit.

On busy days, the Go Slow really does Go Slow: I’ve been left silent with hunger, snapping at my lunch companion as I await my healthy yet filling order. It has a relaxed vibe, no doubt helped by the reggae and local art on the walls, and it manages to feel like a student hangout and a clean café at the same time: no easy combination. They have a few interesting drinks, a general sense of healthy choices on the menu and an intimate atmosphere, something pretty rare on this stretch of Victoria Road. It also has plenty of regulars, rather like a pub, which is a good sign for the quality of the coffee and food. The staff might not be speedy, but they are always cool and friendly: there is a real sense of teamwork and openness behind the counter. It is definitely a place to chill in the afternoons, and they are not madly expensive. I support it because it feels so rare to get a genuinely independent and original space like this one.

Go Slow Café seems to be the main cool hangout on Victoria Road. It’s quite shadowy inside, but there are lots of candlesand thingsto keep it cosy. The décor is fresh and simple: cream walls with plenty of paintings by local artists. A lot of tables and stools are squashed up inside, with two tables outside for smokers. Food-wise, the menu is eclectic, but not the cheapest I’ve seen in a café. We just had coffees, which were pretty good, and helped cheer us up(along with the reggae playing) on such a dreich day. They have chocolate crepes, though, which is always a winner, don’t you think?

After being drawn in by the psychedelic posters adorning the southside, it was everything I’d hoped for and more — home made cakes with fresh strawberries and cream, an impressive range of hot drinks, and tasty, wholesome snacks all feature on the menu. Not to mention an all day breakfast extravaganza of chocolate crepes. How could you not love this place? The atmosphere is so chilled and friendly you would be forgiven for thinking you might have taken a detour off Victoria Rd and ended up somewhere in south east asia. Good music, a supply of the day’s newspapers and colourful lanterns complete what really is a slice of hippy heaven. If you want to slow down and take some time for yourself, Go Slow is the place to go.
