I’m not impressed, hence the two stars. I arrived here yesterday for a wedding and didn’t think it looked too bad at all: the décor was nice, the main room was spacious enough for a medium-sized wedding party and we had the option to sit in the quiet lounge if we wanted an escape from noise/weans/cheesy songs. A nice touch. A good start. However, when the bride and groom took to the floor for their first dance, the manager(or one of the managers) cut across the dancefloor(!) to simply come up to the bar, snap his fingers at the three staff whilst barking at them to ‘get your arses out there and start collecting glasses’ before(loudly) bollocking one of the girls for ‘having that sour look on your face’. No wonder she didn’t look chuffed, having being spoken to like that by her boss in front of punters. Unprofessional, horrible and completely unnecessary. The bar staff did a good job. What a shame about their knob of a boss. As usual with hotels, the drinks weren’t that cheap. Though I think they were a tad over-priced for a 3-star hotel. Thank God I have enterprising chums who never fail to go anywhere without a full hip-flask of whisky, vodka and other delights! Cards were also not accepted! This I found quite bizarre. They lost a bit of custom there, as the nearest cashpoint wasn’t in the building, nor was it nearby. They were a little too keen to kick the bridal party and guests out at the end. As soon as the last song had played, the fascist boss made the staff start cleaning up and moving tables away, with the obvious hint being: GET A MOVEONANDGO! NOW! WEHAVEYOURMONEY, WEHAVENONEEDFORYOUANYMORE! They were cleaning up around us and, fair enough, they want things done quickly, but you need a few minutes to gather your things and say your goodbyes. As a result, we only got a couple of seconds to say goodbye to our newly-married chums. It felt a bit rushed, and you always feel guilty if you don’t get to say a proper cheerio. The bride and groom paid a lot of money for the night, so you’d think the hotel would be a little more accomodating, or even organised: maybe they could have announced the end of the evening five or ten minutes before they did so it didn’t feel so rushed? All in all, it was a good night, but, believe me, that was only because of the company kept.

To start with the building is very ugly with random big ugly new bits stuck on an older bit in the middle. Went here for the food after a funeral and it was awful. Sandwiches etc were all mixed up seating and tables were stuck too far apart and randomly about a big room. They didn’t provide for the veggie mourners despite being told to. Later i heard how much it was per head and was rather shocked.
