After looking at the reviews I booked an appointment with Susan Shaw. Fabulous hairdresser my hair looked amazing after she finished ! She provided me with great advice and tips on how to blowdry and use my GHD’s. My hair has been sitting brilliantly since I had it done which I think is always a good sign of a good haircut !

After spying the reviews by Alison M and Angela B, I had DLC on my list for the next place to try when getting a hair cut. My regular hairdresser has moved to Australia(urgh, heat!) so I’m looking for someone new. DLC take bookings over the phone and I didn’t have any problems getting an appointment with Susan Shaw who Alison M mentioned in her review. The salon is easy to find on Mitchell Lane and while it’s a small salon, it does everything it needs to! The girl who washed my hair was super friendly and chatty, and had great banter. Susan then talked to me about what I wanted — I was tired and grumpy, so all I knew was that I wanted a change! She suggested a bit off the length and a fringe which sounded good to me. Susan has a very calming and chilled manner, as well as a good amount of chat. Sometimes going to the hairdresser can be hideously awkward when it comes to conversation but there was none of that here, and in under an hour my hair had been chopped, blow dried and styled to perfection. While I’m still getting used to having a fringe, I’m really happy with the cut and am finding it really manageable thanks to her advice. As for the price, it came to around £50 with a bottle of smoothing product in there — so I’m not entirely sure of the actual cost of the cut! Susan also offered to trim my fringe as often as I need, for free, and without an appointment which is awesome, so I’ll be back soon to keep it nice.

I have been coming to this salon for over 10 years now(since my uni days). I have had a few periods where I have lived away from Glasgow and gone elsewhere to have my hair done, or more recently have visited salons closer to home for speed(essential with a new baby). However, I haven’t found anywhere else that quite compares to DLC for me. This is largely due to the lovely Susan Shaw who has been cutting(and colouring) my hair for 7 – 8 years now. Susan really is a gem, super lovely and does a mean blow dry! No one else manages to get my hair to bounce quite like Susan! :)

It was that time of year again — the time when I just have the urgent desire to cut/change my hair. I can only seem to stand one type of hairstyle for so long then I feel it’s time for a change(those people that know me can vouch for this!) On this occasion I wasn’t initially going to have a drastic change but when I got to the hairdressers I thought ‘What the hell…’ and quite drastic it was! I had previously been going to the Rainbow Rooms either Academy or regular salons but this time I felt(again) like a change, I think it’s good to see what other places there are out there & upon reading reviews for this place on(the most fabby) Unilocal I decided upon giving DLC a go. I don’t want no scrubs… When I say I decided on this salon this was in the space of about 2 hours in the morning, whilst at work! I requested a cheeky half-day on the hope I would get an appointment that very afternoon, it was a mid-week appointment so I figured it shouldn’t be too unobtainable… I was, thankfully, right and managed to get an appointment for a cut & blow-dry that very afternoon. Woo! Never knowing quite what to expect in a new hairdressers I went in & sat rather nervously for about 15mins, waiting for my hairdresser to finish her last client. I have to admit on first impressions I wasn’t totally bowled over — I wasn’t particularly greeted with a big smile or offered a beverage/magazine while I waited… hence the nervousness… what had I let myself in for?! Eek… Luckily I need not have worried — for my hairdresser that day was a very lovely lady named Leigh. She made me feel comfortable straight away. Also when I told her my(crazy) ideas & how I wanted my hair she listened intently and asked lots of good questions, obviously making sure she fully understood what I wanted. There’s nothing worse than a hairdresser that cuts you off mid-description of how you would like your hair cut/styled, thinking they already know what you want when by the end of the appointment you’re left thinking ‘Did you even listen at ALL?!’ Bah. Leigh was very nice & all the way through my haircut she asked more questions & also explained everything she was doing as she went along. Leigh also added that she ‘loved’ doing haircuts/styles like the one I was asking for because it makes a refreshing change from being asked for the usual ‘Just a trim’ or ‘Highlights please’. So I was glad to hear I wasn’t being a nuisance(for once: p) I was offered a drink(twice) and Leigh was very amiable & friendly throughout, not once stopping to see to another client(or 2; as has happened before to me) or chat away to other hairdressers. Personally I don’t really mind this because I am happy to either chat back or not chat at all; either way does not bother me. I’m not one of these people/clients that feels the need to fill the silence every 10 seconds with endless chatter(honestly, I’m not!). Also I never book a haircut/appointment if I know I have something to go to/do after, so time is no worry for me — I like the hairdressing experience to be relaxing & pampering. All in all I would say my experience at DLC was a very promising one. Started off a bit meh but ended really well. How was the haircut? Well, considering I was asking for so many wee particular things she done a good job. Maybe it was a little shorter than I would’ve liked but I can forgive a hairdresser for this when I’m asking for such an awkward style/cut. Regarding the price I thought, considering I had a re-style, £38 was reasonable. I was there quite a long time & had a lot done/taken off. If this was the same price for just a trim I wouldn’t be so happy though. Maybe if I had more money I wouldn’t mind paying that but £38 for a trim, for me, is too much. Will I be back? I’m sure I will but for now I think I’m gonna grow my hair… long…haha! Oh dear.

I got my hair cut here one time only, but I would go back again and again if my friend was not a hairdresser. I really cannot flaw the whole experience, it was good in service, in atmosphere, in interior, and most importantly it was good in RESULT! I was explained to how my hair had been cut which makes it slightly thin looking towards the bottom, so they took the opportunity to begin correcting it so my hair looked fuller, which was exactly what I had wanted. Horray! I liked the girl that cut my hair, she was really funny and fairly entertained me while I was there. Thank you DLC.

This salon is so cool! So cool it hurts my face from smiling so much. So cool it’s hot(not sure if we can make that phrase work, but if the shoe fits…) The first time I came in here, and I appreciate this will make me sound like a creep… I was watching someone else get a haircut. It was someone I knew, of course — although if I’m ever cutting through this lane I do have a wee spy because the bay windows and busy atmosphere practically beg for you to snoop. So anyway, the first time I stopped by with my friend it was on a recommendation, and was a good shout. Watching my pal get the snip was like watching these cheesy before and after transformations — he went in with long, dank hair and left with a bit of a dramatic spiky ‘do. At the time I loved it a wee bit too much. And the stylist, who was a student at the time, was doing it for free because it was part of her training. The next time I visited it was for me and the same thing happened(although my hair wasn’t spiky, I’m not that brave!) It was one of the best cuts I’ve had, very rockin’, and the girl seemed to read my mind as to what I wanted since I didn’t have a picture. Since then I have revisited on many occasions — once with a friend and once for highlights — have always left really chuffed with the end result. Whenever I get my hair cut here I’m always desperate to go out on the town and show everyone because it looks so sleek! Its interior is very cutting edge(no pun intended); modern, open, clean, minimal. I guess it looks cold and sharp on the inside. But the staff could not be friendlier, or have cooler hair, or be more eager to chat to you. It’s the highest quality of hair chair banter. I always leave with a wee bounce in my step. Can seem expensive for some colour treatments but I urge you it is absolutely worth it! If you’re lucky, one of the hairdressers might still have the massive, shaggy dog who kicks about quite peacefully — he won’t bug you unless you bug him for a cuddle. Cups of tea are always offered, just watch for the hairspray flying around! Staff will always compliment you, and they should also compliment their serious hair slicin’ skills while they’re at it. Man, after writing this I want another hair cut.
