Who doesn’t like a good cup of tea & home made cakes, quite often I would call in when they where on Dumbarton road. There doesn’t seem to be much difference between the old shop and the new one but I would day there’s less character in the new shop. Still a great place to take a special friend for that treat, not often you see any half descent tearooms in Glasgow.

One of Glasgow’s sweetest cake-destinations has a new home on Hyndland Street and I just couldn’t wait to visit. If you’d been to the Old Dumbarton Road location you will see a familiar look about this place — lovely fresh white frontage and soft blue walls inside. If you were stressed when you entered, you will quickly relax as this place is just so charming. The size seems about the same but of course now they’re on a much busier street, and there were quite a few people in when I visited on a Thursday afternoon. I had a cup of tea but skipped the cake as I’d just had lunch — apple spiced fruit tea is one of my all time favourite teas and it was lovely to indulge in a pot while I relaxed. Cakes are baked fresh every day and it’s worth keeping an eye out for what’s on each day as there’s always something interesting being dished up. And if you don’t have a sweet tooth, they do savoury stuff too. When I walked in, the smell of the soup of the day was really strong in a pleasant, homely way — it made the the place feel extra cosy. They also play some great music too — not your usual café stuff but more classical tunes. This would be the perfect place to visit with your best friend or mum/nanna for a relaxing afternoon tea.

Cushion and Cake recently moved from Dumbarton Road to Hyndland Street which was good news for me. I have to admit that I never ventured to their old location but Hyndland Street is just a few minutes from where my boyfriend lives in Hyndland, a street I’m always wandering in. Now, I have even more reason for being there! I love cake. I love tea. I love coffee. Cushion and Cake cater to all of these perfectly. I went last Saturday, on the very first day of trading from the new location. It was busy with little old ladies who were in their element. In fact, I overheard them chatting about how perfect the place was, how delicious the food was and they even went up to the staff at the end to commend them on how good it was! I didn’t know what cake to order– Victoria Sponge or a Caribbean Cake so the waitress announced they could do ½ slices of both so we get the best of both worlds. Oh yes! When the cake arrived, I couldn’t believe that what was put infront of me were half slices. They were ENORMOUS, not that I complained. oh no not me! for £1.60 a half slice(or was it £1.30?!), this was a bargain! The cakes were soft, full of flavour and absolutely delicious! This is definitely my favourite new cake place, the staff are very friendly and eager to please. The shop is very tiny and I can envision it will be very tricky to get a table once word gets out of the new location and passing trade.
