I’ve been meaning to try this place out for so long and finally got round to it! I was a little confused as to the set up, so in case you’re unsure too it is Cup Tea Lounge for lunch, afternoon tea etc. in the day and turns into a cool bar that is unsurprisingly known for its Gin selection, Gin 71 at night. I went in at lunch time and was looking to try the afternoon tea. Unfortunately they had run out — bit disappointing given it was a Tuesday at 2pm but I understand that some places get busy! So keep that in mind and maybe book to avoid the same issue. What I ended up going for was a chicken and mango sandwich. It was absolutely fine but the creamy chicken inside didn’t taste of an awful lot and the bread was super dry. It did come with a little salad with a nice dressing though. We then decided we had to try the cupcakes. I went for a tablet one — it was really nice, the sponge was light and fluffy however the tablet icing situation was unbelievably sweet. I did enjoy it although I couldn’t finish it all and had a massive sugar rush. And that’s saying something for me! All in all it was nice though. Also to note: I ordered prosecco and it came with your own mini bottle which did at least 2 glasses for the price of 1 normal glass anywhere else, so that seemed a good deal. I’d also like to mention the staff were all friendly and attentive. I did enjoy some parts of my lunch but it wasn’t exactly what I expected. I’d go back to try the afternoon tea or in the evening for Gin though!

An early morning cinema trip required breakfast and Unilocal handily pointed out that I was near Cup so, after a quick check of the menu, I headed in and tried to remember that it was 10am(and I was driving) so I shouldn’t order any gin! (Confused? This branch of Cup becomes Gin71 in the evenings, a purveyor of fine gin and cocktails that is well worth a visit!). The interior looks far more impressive during the day as you can make out much more of the exquisite detail in the ceiling and walls, it is a sumptuous space, and feels rather grand and posh; I felt rather scruffy in my t-shirt and jeans! I opted for the breakfast sliders — they have a reasonable range of breakfast options, also allowing you to ‘build your own’ although they could do with some Hash Browns in that part of the menu — and ordered a glass of fresh orange juice as well. The food was quick to arrive — a sausage in a mini hot dog roll, some crispy bacon in a broiche bun, and a poached egg served in a Yorkshire pudding — and looked great. I had asked for ketchup as well and, and I know this is a tiny detail, it arrived in those little squeezy packets which somewhat ruined the upmarket feel. First bite of the sausage … er… roll. was a little disappointing. A bog standard pork sausage and a slightly dry bun, the application of ketchup did little to save it and the bread to meat ratio(which as we all know is very important) was off by quite some degree. I left almost a third of the bread behind. On to the bacon and brioche, and HUZZAH for crispy bacon that was crispy without having to be asked! Alas, boo for the miniscule amount in the bun(less than a rasher?) and again with the bread to meat ratio being off it was a whole lot of sweet bun, with not much crispy bacon. Ketchup to the rescue again but ultimately I was underwhelmed by this overly sweet combination. Perhaps the poached egg in a yorkshire pudding would save the day? Alas no. An overly poached egg, in a slightly stale yorkshire pudding(neither crispy nor chewy, Auntie Bessie would be ashamed) offered little for my taste buds to get excited about. The fresh orange juice was nice though, as was the service, prompt and friendly and delivered with a smile. Alas the sliders idea — good on paper, bad on the plate — just didn’t seem to work. Oh well, you live and learn and if I go back there for breakfast(a large ‘if’ given nearby competition) I definitely won’t be ordering them again.

Tea by day and gin by night, that’s how this place rocks. I’ve enjoyed their cream teas but this time it was a morning catch up with a friend. A pot of tea & huge scone each(to be honest one scone between the two of us would have sufficed) in this beautiful art Deco building is the way I wish every day started. Relaxed with lovely staff it was a shame to leave and go to work. It’s no more expensive than your local chain but it has that touch of class they don’t so try it next time you’re in town.

I popped in here due to the power of suggestion… I was at an exhibition at the Lighthouse on art nouveau and Cup was shown in this. I’d forgotten what a stupendously beautiful interior it was! As it was a saturday afternoon I had to queue to get a seat, but you can book online if you’re a bit more organised than I was. There was a big mixture of people there, from couples enjoying a tipple to groups of friends having afternoon tea and tonic– this place turns into Gin 71 at night(after 6?) so they have a gin menu too. I went for the cupcake taster platter which was three of their most popular cupcakes. One of them was chocolate, meltingly beautiful and rich. Another was plain with delicate icing and another was carrot cake which had butter icing and a walnut. Why have one cake when you can have three?!? I had a really hard time choosing my tea as I am more of a coffee than a tea person generally, yet I love proper leaf tea in a pot. Cup do this fantastically, there is a huge menu of tea and they even give you a timer to tell you how long it is meant to brew for. I went for vanilla and coconut tea. indulgent, especially with added sugar and milk(sorry tea purists, I did try it ‘neat’ but it was too rich for me, with milk it was beautiful!) The service was quite slow, but as it was so busy I will forgive them for that. Will definately be back again soon. cocktails or cupcakes. or even both!

Had a fab afternoon tea at Cup. I had been to the smaller shop in the west end which was very busy and squashy but scones hit the spot. This was a bigger and more relaxed venue. Everything we had was lovely and even though everything is miniature we couldn’t finish what we had. They give you a box to take away a little doggy bag. The range of teas is awesome and I would love to try most of them but opted for the basic on this occasion and my friend got an upgrade to Prosecco which came in a lux little bottle. As I’m pregnant I couldn’t have the salmon sandwich so they offer to change anything you want to a variety of alternatives which is a nice touch. Décor, service and good lovely. I look forward to going back.

Once upon a time cupcakes were everywhere and I was a big fan. They seem to feature less these days but I still love them and this is definitely the place to come if you do too. They have a big selection of different cupcakes from fruity to chocolatey and everything in between. I’ve tried many and they were all lovely. Cup Tea Lounge is an excellent choice for a proper afternoon tea in grand surroundings, look out for their slightly altered portrait of Queen Victoria. The lunch menu here is good too and I’ve had the club sandwich a few times but mostly it’s all about the tea and cakes for me. They have an extensive tea menu and they let you know how long each tea needs to brew. It’s a great place for groups, birthdays and so on but you will need to book. They get busy at weekends, Mother’s Day and Christmas and there’s often a queue but it usually doesn’t take long to get seated.

Cup includes two of my favourite things— tea and cupcakes— really, I would have a tough time NOT liking this place. We discovered this place quite randomly a couple of years back and I am always happy to revisit. As with many buildings in Glasgow, you are immediately impressed by the décor and architecture upon entering. But, oh wait… the architecture is noticeable AFTER walking past a display of delectable cupcakes and specialty loose teas. If I’m honest, I think I’ve only had one tea here since I first visited. Their Gharra Chai is amazing. It may be one of the best chais that I’ve had from a tea room. On my first visit, the owner informed us that the was inspired by the recipe of the grandmother of one of the staff. Thank God for this girls gran. If this is your first visit, then you should definitely get a cupcake. If this is your second or third or hundredth visit, then you should definitely get a cupcake. They have good scones for those who don’t like cupcakes, but why wouldn’t you want one of their red velvet, oreo, or chocolate peppermint cupcakes? I mean really. But I’m aware some people don’t like cake… hmmm… well, Cup could change that ;) If you’re in a rush, then they do sell their loose teas and cupcakes to take away. It’s worth phoning ahead if you’re stopping in for anything more than a pot of tea and cupcake, or you may not get a table.

I love this place & quite frankly don’t go often enough! The venue is huge, décor beautiful & just wow. Opted for afternoon tea for two with a friend & what a lovely day we had! The actual tea menu is spectacular, something to suit everyone, herbal, fruity, caffeine free etc & I particularly liked how they all came with a «brew time» in order to deliver the perfect cup of tea!(The Tahitian vanilla is heavenly) Soon after our wee stand arrived, finger sandwiches/wraps & rolls, scones fresh from the oven & a selection of sweets on top! It looks fab & tasted even better, albeit it didn’t look like much twas plenty(so much so we ended up taking a bunch of the sweets home!) The staff were über friendly & happy to help /answer any queries — you can purchase the tea directly from them. As if I need another reason to hoard more tea!!! Definitely worth checking out, even if its just for a cupcake & cocktail.

What a find! Thank Unilocal for leading me here ;) I love high tea places and am currently on a quest to try as many as I can! Decided to come here for lunch, the menu looked yummy so I went for a sandwich instead of the usual afternoon tea. I ordered the classic club which was probably the most delicious sandwich I have eaten.ever. there were 3 bread slices so as you can imagine, it was pretty big! There was a generous amount of filling. It also came with a little pot of salad which was quite cute. I think the sandwich was around £6 or so — amazing for the size of the meal. Definitely be coming here again, affordable and delicious. Oh, and the interior was cute :)

I was always curious about this place and went in one day with my friend. The service was not too bad thought there room for improvement. The cupcakes were good but a little on the sweet side, except for the red velvet cupcake(that was quite nice and wasn’t too sweet).

Beautiful tiled interior with chandeliers, flocked chairs and fresh real plants on the tables — lovely. Staff are warm and friendly without being cloying and really smartly turned out. I had a latte and an apple and cinnamon scone and both were superb. The scone was served warm and was obviously homemade and fresh.

I had passed this place many times and marvelled at its beautiful ceiling and opulent interior, but I never got round to checking it out until they popped up in my inbox with a wee afternoon tea offer. As a bargain-lover, I’m a fan of Itison offers and I was quick to take up their offer of a festive afternoon tea, including a WHOLEBOTTLE of prosecco, for £25. Some places would charge at least that for the bottle alone, so I imagined it would be well worth it whatever the food was like. It was approaching Christmas, so the reservation book was filling up fast, but I managed to book a table for a friend and I to go along and enjoy some food and fizz as a wee festive treat to ourselves. When the day arrived, we were unable to make it, so I phoned to ask if I could book for another day, although I knew availability would be unlikely. As I assumed, they were fully booked and I was quite prepared to let it go as ‘one of those things’ and the risk you take when paying in advance. HOWEVER, the manager was amazing and said that he would arrange to box up our afternoon tea and we could collect it, since he didn’t have any other availability for us to sit in. I was delighted at how kind and considerate he had been, as he could easily have had a ‘tough luck’ attitude and he had been paid either way. Our takeaway tea contained the most exquisite array of handmade cakes, scones and sandwiches and they even gave us the bottle of prosecco too. Overwhelmingly amazing service and good grub. I will definitely be back.

This is our 2nd time here and we still love the Teas and ambience. But I’m dropping a star for the cupcakes. Sadly. Beautiful looking and yummy buttercream for the icing. But the cake part is so small and so British typical cake … Dry and not much to it. Think I’ll try a scone next time.

We came here for a late brunch. The interior is very chic and it reminded me of New York actually. I had the chicken and mango salad sandwich and my bf had afternoon tea. My sandwich was delicious but my bf was not that impressed with his food. A little too much sugar according to him. I did have one of their scrumptious looking cupcakes, the toffee pudding cupcake, and while I liked it a lot I do agree it was a little too sweet. Their tea collection was quite good and I enjoyed the over all atmosphere but our experience at The Rose was much more impressive.

I felt very much like a princess; perched alongside my teapot of assam, surrounded by super high ceilings, beautiful vintage looking armchairs and some strange, wonderful art.(Why does the lady on the giant picture have a cherry balanced on her head?! Ooh. cupcakes!) I didn’t have a cupcake this time round(burger meats bun, I surrender!) but I can’t say I wasn’t envious of my friend’s chocolate orange, adorned with a terry’s chocolate orange segment! It looked delicious and fresh with a generous amount of icing. Also, edible glitter = awesome!(Cupcakes and glitter are equally wonderful alone but together, wowee!) My teapot of assam came with a timer, something I’ve never encountered during afternoon tea before! The waitress explained that it counts down until your tea has brewed. This was a really nice touch and my tea tasted great!(Lesson learnt! Never again will I be hasty with my tea pouring!) Brewing time varies from tea to tea and there are a great selection of teas on offer, including iced varieties. Service was fast and friendly and Cup Tea Lounge is definitely somewhere I’d love to return to. Oh, and cupcakes… I’m coming for you!

I ventured in here with one of my oldest pals on friday to kick off the quarter century celebrations. The interior is lovely, classy and comfortable(I’m a sucker for a comfy leather sofa and the old fashioned tiling on the walls) and the staff were all very friendly and efficient. We didn’t have a reservation as we were only planning a cocktail or 2(that ended up with us splitting a bottle of vino) so were sat at the bar. However a reservation didn’t show up so we were swiftly upgraded to the afore mentioned comfy leather sofas. Props to them for that. The cakes looked fab, and I was quite impressed with the cocktail menu so this place is definitely on my to-do list for a return visit! :)

Wow-wee. This place is rather grandiose complete with old fashioned tiling and retro looking tub chairs. It reminded me of a smaller, less grand and less well-established Café Central in Vienna — there are old paintings adorning the walls and it has a French salon-esque feel to it.(If that makes any sense!) Me and my other half went here for a little afternoon coffee and cheeky cupcake(how could we resist the cake?! The selection and presentation was superb! We opted for the Oreo and Carmel varieties!) I found it really cosy and dare I say rather romantic — that may have had more to do with the company than the setting but it has an old worldly atmosphere to it which I loved. The coffee was good, the cake was better. I slightly regret not trying one of their innumerable teas on offer — from lapsang souchong to a vast array of white teas and their own fruit infused delicacies. There was even chilli chocolate tea(uh huh!) which I will definitely have to try next time. The staff were really friendly and knowledgable and explained all about the teas and coffees on offer. They made sure that everything was to our satisfaction and were really personable and chatty. Would totally recommend this place for an afternoon caffeine fix in an intimate and romantic setting. Magnifique!

We had a voucher from an online deals site and decided to try a sharing platter & cocktails with friends. The staff were really friendly, helpful and gave up plenty of time to look over the varied menu, before making our choices. The food looked & tasted amazing, fresh and the cocktails were well thought out and completed the food and deserts well. Will definitely pop in again when in town.

I appreciated the tea lounge’s décor more than the food that was served unfortunately. The scones were not as good as the Willow Tea Room and the Benedict’s flavor and texture was pretty off. I did really enjoy the high ceiling and sparkling chandelier though.
