Cowcaddens Subway Station

This station is just minutes from sauchiehall street by foot. So easy to use park and ride especially at christmastime when car parking is so difficult.

My subway station odyssey continues!
Cowcaddens station is situated at the top end of Sauchiehall Street, maybe a couple of minutes to five minutes walk away from the shopping area. Your closest point of reference, or mine, would be it’s by the side of Dunnes Stores on the main shopping drag.
If your going shopping up at the top end, or going to the GFT or the pub and club area at that end, then this is ideal. also handy for the budget hotels, the Thistle hotel and the quite frankly MAJESTIC Oxford chippy nearby.
It’s not a glamourous station, it just has a ticket office and machines, and kiosk that I don’t think I can recall ever seeing open, which is a shame.
A handy, if unspectacular stop on the Clockwork Orange. Shoogle on!

This station on the Subway is most convenient for the centre of Sauchiehall Street and Bath Street eateries, GFT and CCA, as well as Garnethill residential area. Tourist wise, the Art School is nearby, and shopping wise it is handy for the area containing Chinese grocery shops.
The murals at each end of the subway tunnels are pleasant to look at, and you can access bus services to the North of the city from the Garscube Road. The station is functional so not a lot to say, other than «it works!». The staff are pretty cheery, we arrived quite late one day and one of the doors was closed, but we were cheerily told that we could still catch the last subway if we used the tiny door within a door in the shutter!
It is really convenient for a leisurely walk along the canal, as on a sunny day you can follow the signs from here and then walk along the canal network towards Maryhill or Port Dundas, or for a longer walk (with a map!) you can follow the canal towards Kelvinbridge subway then get back on the subway!

People tend to forget about Cowcaddens station, but it’s really handy for the top end of town and I probably use it more than Buchanan Street or St. Enoch. It’s a short walk away from Theatre Royal, the Royal Conservatoire, GFT, Piping Centre and even the middle of Sauchiehall Street precinct.
Not much else to say about it except for the bit of trivia that the stretch between here and Buchanan Street is the lowest part of the Subway, and in the old days they apparently used to keep a rowing boat at Cowcaddens for when the line was flooded!

Cowcaddens station is located not far from Cambridge street and only a minute or two to great western road, an ideal location for student living as it is not far from a few colleges. Plenty of café’s and bars within a 100 yards from the entrance.

A good stop for the upper end of Sauchiehall Street which saves you ploughing through the masses to reach this part of town.
Cowcaddens gives you access to the likes of Brunswick Cellars, GFT, Fazzi, Stow College, China Town Market, Outdoor World, Tenament House, The Wee Curry Shop… actually, why is everyone saying this stop is not really worth while… prove em wrong intrepid travellers, hit this stop and have the most outstandingly outstanding night of your life… or just go somewhere useful… actually, i’m not that fussed, just do whatever you want, its cool.
Again, with this stop it can be a tad confusing as to which exit to take when you make it off. Best idea is just to ask someone or look out for any maps and signs that have of late been dotted around the area.

A handy stop for the likes of Glasgow Caley, RSAMD and the Garnethill area of the city, Cowcaddens is the least popular of the three city centre stops, hence the smallest.
While the area around it is a tad on the grim side, the underpass leading towards Cambridge Street has at least seen a lick of paint, meaning it now represents a perfectly respectable shortcut to take as opposed to resembling a portal to the Bronx.

Another tube stop that has seen a bit of a paintjob inside, with the new design on show in a nice green colour.
It’s on a good spot in shouting distance of Caledonian University and RSAMD for all you students and super close to Cineworld and the surrounding places on Sauchiehall Street.
It’s never particularly busy which is good and bad. Good because you dont have to put up with the fighting and fussing when you’re in busier places like Partick but it’s right near some tenement houses with a dodgy underpass that isn’t very welcoming after dark.
Could be doing with some salient CCTV like Bridge Street.

Cowcaddens station is handy for the shops on Sauchiehall Street, being that little bit closer than Buchanan Street tube. Caledonian University, Stow College and the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama are also just a few minutes away, as well as some office buildings such as the passport office on Milton Street.
Cowcaddens is a very quiet station. Which makes me worry a bit at night, given also that it is entered via either an underpass or a dark woodland area.

Cowcaddens is the ghost town stop on the underground. Nobody ever seems to get on or off here.
This has partly to do with its location. Rather than opening onto a busy street, it’s a little up the road from Sauchiehall Street, making it closer to a couple of shopping car parks than anything else. It’s also within pretty close walking distance to Buchanan Street, so unless you’re coming from further afield, it doesn’t really seem worth it.
If you’re on your way to the GFT, Stow College, or perhaps Glasgow Caledonian university, it might be closer to your destination. Otherwise, though, it’s pretty easily forgotten.

At a sort of periphary where the city centre turns into a bit of a concrete jungle, there’s not actually to many places that this stop is most convenient for.
Off the top of my head I can think of Buchanan Bus Station, The Royal Concert Hall, Stow College, SMG and if you know what streets to go for a shortcut, the pub /​club end of Sauchihall Street.
So actually, I stand corrected, it’s perhaps quite useful after all.

Located just metres off of the top of the pedestrianised shopping presinct of Sauchiehall street, this place seems to save time and effort in visiting city centre businesses (especially shopping!) and Glasgow’s Chinatown area.
Near the GFT, National Piping Centre, Stow College, and several larger outlets (like Outdoor World, and several Chinese supermarkets), means that this is a popular stop along the Clockwork Orange.

Just near the western end of Sauchiehall Street, Cowcaddens subway is in the Chinatown area which, to be honest, I never even knew existed.
The Glasgow Film Theatre and the art school are both nearby, making this another studenty subway stop. There are some good Chinese supermarkets and other amenities nearby, but I suspect this stop is mainly used by city centre shoppers.

Found this one quite smelly at the entrance, altho service was good as usual
