This is probably one the most well-known of the tile shops in Glasgow, and it certainly stands out, not least because it has a gigantic replica of Michelangelo’s David displayed in the courtyard. I don’t really understand why, because it’s bronze(or metal of some sort), not ceramic, and Cosmo Ceramics are all about the ceramics, but it certainly is a piece of Glasgow gallus, so all credit to them. The showroom is large and spacious, and the tiles are well displayed. There’s a huge reception desk at the entrance, and staff are quick to volunteer help, although also happy to leave you in peace to browse. There was one very helpful chap in particular, who explained that they also have a very good online site that you can order from, and which has a helpful measurements section, to help you work out the quantity of tiles you need. It seemed to me that Cosmo Ceramics really try to help their customers, although obviously that’s also to help them buy tiles. However, I’m afraid I just didn’t really like their style of tiles. They seemed a wee bit fancy for my plain tastes, a bit too glamourous perhaps, too Italianate, too ornate. And also a bit pricey. I have really simple tastes, so on this occasion, Cosmo didn’t have what I was looking for.

I think the main thing that springs to mind whenever I think of Cosmo Ceramics is the 18ft bronze replica of Michelangelo’s Statue of David who greets customers from the roof of this tiling shop as you’re driving up. Poor old David has it all on show and I can image he gets rather chilli in sunny Glasgow, especially in the winter months! Perhaps someone should give him a loin cloth, he shouldn’t have to brave the harsh winter with his modesty hanging out. Whenever my parents dragged my brother and I here when we were little this was just too hilarious to handle and we would walk about the whole shop in fits of the giggles as if they didn’t realise they had an 18ft naked man statue on their roof. Apart from the comedy factor that Cosmo ceramics provides to suffering children dragged round here by their parents on their summer holidays, it also has high quality tiles of all descriptions. They have bathroom tiles, kitchen tiles, conservatory tiles and they also have a selection of doors and various other household goodies for a bit of DIY. They have been in business for 21 years and this showroom was refurbished in 2006 making it bigger and better than it’s ever been. The shop is very organised and it is very easy to browse their selections of tiles, the staff are also very friendly and will be able to advise you no problems at all.
