Smudge has odd shaped feet, not quirky odd but interesting to a podiatrist odd. It makes getting shoes an absolute nightmare. The only thing worse than the joy of trawling around trying to find something which isn’t going to make her limp, give her blisters the size of a small country or cry is watching her squirm with embarrassment as insensitive sales people fail to grasp the pain that her feet cause her. This is a big, busy Clarks shop and we are huge fans. The staff have never been anything other than compassionate and bend over backwards helpful. The measuring service here(and everywhere else) fails to take into account the weirdness of her poor feet so she measures as an E fitting but needs a G or even an H. In other shoe shops I have had fights with sales assistants refusing to listen to me patiently explaining that an E fitting is going to have her in tears trying the shoes on let alone wearing them for school. Here they listen. On this visit we came in looking for school shoes and after the poor assistant emptying the stock room of every shoe or boot in black, brown or grey in smudge’s size, found something that didn’t have smudge playing the ugly sister in Cinderella. This store also has a great ordering service for days when none of the shoes in the stock room fit — oh yes we’ve been there!

This is a large bright store with one of the biggest children’s section. There is a good mens range and women’s range. They sell casual shoes and smart shoes. Some of the shoes for going out also have matching hand bags if you want them to match. The shoes range from smart to casual. The prices can be high but you pay for the quality I have had some good buys from here. The staff member was okay but could have been nicer and a bit more pleasant.
