Now this bar I’ve actually not been in having realised, a while back now, that this is thee actual CCA Bar. I did confuse my poor boyfriend one evening when I thought I was in the CCA Bar but I was in the larger main bar which can be accessed through the main entrance to the CCA on Sauchiehall Street. It was a funny call of «I’m standing outside the CCA Bar where are you?» «Well, I’m standing outside the CCA Bar too where are you?» It was totally my fault for not realising there was another bar. Doh! Well after our Elite evening of Unilocalness we decended up towards the proper CCA Bar. It was a leaving do of a friend who I’ve know idea who they were but I do know one was leaving for Australia. ‘Raise glass, chink’ It was a lot smaller than I had imagined but more of a stretched out long bar. We managed to get comfy couches but only had time for a couple as the bar shut quite early. The bar man was very insistant on our leaving, he didn’t give much time from buying the last round to get your jackets and leave. Hopefully next time I’ll have more time to chill and enjoy the surroundings of this fresh modern bar. I expected to be ‘arty’ but it’s all miminalistic and stuff. Maybe it is art and it’s deceiving me just like Chris in a leopard print fur coat.

As Sauchiehall Street pounds with the hoofed masses, CCA seems to quietly ghost under the radar to offer closet people-a-phobes like me with a place to order a beer, grab a seat and chat quietly with some friends. I once thought of this place as a tad on the ‘ooh nooo, not another hipster hangout’ yet despite it being attached to quite possible THE most pretentious exibition venue this side of a asymmetrical fringe, it actually has a rather laid back ‘sup man? fancy a wee pint?’ type feel to it. I liked it then(last review), I like it now(this review… jeez, you really must pay attention folks). Go hear to avoid the live cattle on a week night oot on Sock-in-a-Hole Street. Nuff said.

I left a quick tip about the CCA Bar that said that it was the best-lit bar/pub/watering hole that I’ve ever been to, and I will hold to that. It’s very much a good thing, as is the fact that there isn’t CRAPMUSICBLARINGATYOUFROMALLDIRECTIONS. This is a bar for people to have conversations in, and seeing as that is my favourite Thing To Do While Drinking, I am behind this 100 percent. Surprisingly, for being in the CCA, it’s not excessively arty and stuck-up, either. The seating and tables are minimalist but worn enough to be homey, and you can sit about in jeans and trainers of a Friday after work(if your business does casual Fridays…) and not feel like people are shunning you. Furthermore, the drink prices aren’t too bad if you’re going for a pint or a glass of wine. I’d say the cocktails and bar food are just a bit out of my price range as a postgrad student, but if you can, why not. They don’t skimp on pints and they pour their G&Ts strong. All in all, I wish it was easier for me to get to the CCA Bar, as I’d be there all the time. Maybe it’s better for me that I can’t.

Inconspicuous in appearance, the CCA Bar is probably the most civilised of Sauchiehall Street’s many watering holes. If you’re heading out to a club later then chances are this isn’t the place for you. However, if all you are looking for is a venue for some quiet drinks and a chat with your mates then there’s an argument to suggest this is the best option in the vicinity. The décor of the whole place is, naturally, a little arty farty but the atmosphere is surprisingly unpretentious and the drinks not as expensive as you may expect.

A great relaxed setting tucked away off the busy club-laden Sauchiehall Street. Brilliant if you aren’t up for the madness of Nice-N-Sleazies on a weekend, or if you want to enjoy a casual drink and a chat on weekday nights. The guys and girls behind the bar make a mean cup of coffee, and there is a nice selection of decent beers. Bar food is more than acceptable.

As Chris mentioned, the CCA Bar is a real gem in the city centre. Fed up of having to grab a bite in a sub-standard chain eatery? Well then if you’re around this part of Sauchiehall Street then the CCA Terrace Bar is definitely worth a visit. The bars interior was refurbished some time last year and is now extremely clean with whitewash walls and a strong wooden bartop. The seating inside can be a bit uncomfortable and does take a bit of getting used to. Nevertheless they have(perhaps this part of town’s only) beer garden equiped with picnic tables and sun umbarellas. Perfect! The food in here is also very good and the bar shares a kitchen with the downstairs café. If you’re looking for a bite to eat then I would recommend ordering off of the specials menu as the stuff on there is beautiful(see duck salad). I heard they got a new chef not to long ago and the menu is soon to change. I’m looking forward to see what they have in store for summer! Also a great wee place to pop in before the art school — bangin tunes and cool staff keep this place ticking!

CCA bar is a nice little place to go for a pre art school drink or simply somewhere a little bit different in this samey end of town. They always have good DJs playing here, contributing to its chilled out vibe and ever so cool atmosphere. It’s a little confusing trying to find the toilets in this place, as you have to go a big walk through the main building of the CCA, which can be a little difficult to navigate after a couple of drinks. A really nice little place, tucked away just off Sauchiehall Street, that is worth a visit for a drink with friends in laid back and atmospheric surroundings.

Whether you’re about to head out for the night or just chilling with some friends, the CCA bar is a great place to hang out and have a drink. It’s very relaxed and welcoming, and has that quintessentially Glaswegian cool feel to it. It doesn’t take itself too seriously, and is very weathered — but in a good way. There’s also an outdoor patio that looks across to ABC’s outdoor smoking area, with a deck. It’s lovely on a summer’s evening, especially if you smoke or have a lot of smoking friends who leave the table every half hour. As Adele said, it’s easy to get lost trying to find the ladies’, but you also get to see that outdoor architecture inside the main CCA building, which I think is an awesome part of every visit to the CCA. Great bar, great atmosphere, good times.
