I’ve been sitting on this review for a couple of weeks now, for reasons I’ll now explain… We decided to try the Bombay Leaf for a celebratory takeaway with my parents and my brother(Kris and I had both had some great news on the jobs front). We placed our order through Just –Eat without any problems and the restaurant phoned to double-check our order since it was a big order, standard stuff. Our food arrived and we tucked in to some really tasty Indian starters. Great pakora, some lovely tandoori lamb and flavoursome spiced onions were some of the highlights of our first round of food. However when we moved on to the mains, we had a major problem… I had ordered a King Prawn Chasni for myself, which is described as follows: «A light, smooth creamy sauce with a delicate twist of sweet & sour for those with a delicate palate(step up from korma).» Sounds lovely? It was, so I shared it with my family and Kris. 2 minutes later Kris’ face and tongue started swelling and he began to feel sick, having an allergic reaction to the sauce. Kris has a peanut allergy and the Bombay Leaf had neglected to mention the sauce contained nuts on any of their menus. Luckily, Kris caught it in time and managed to get most of it out of his system before he required a trip to A&E. I know this doesn’t necessarily make the Bombay Leaf a bad place to go; some of their food is pretty tasty. However, I phoned the Bombay Leaf when it became apparent what had happened and they just said they would change the menu, without even apologising(which they still haven’t achieved). It’s really put Kris and I off ordering from here, which is a shame because if their service after the fact had been a little better I would have considered it. Meh, I’ll just stick with Balbir’s I think!

Ive been to the Bombay Leaf a few times now, and love it each time. If you love, like me, well cooked Indian food with loads of flavours and spices, then you should definitely give this place a try. When you walk in you’re welcomed by friendly staff, the décor is really modern and fresh but still feels like an authentic Indian restaurant. During the week it’s usually fairly quiet but picks up at the weekend and can get really busy, so best booking ahead just to be sure. Don’t let the idea of it being busy put you off though as the tables are all booths apart from the ones in the middle for big groups, so remains private if you want it to be. Last time i was in here though there was a big group in the middle having a birthday meal and one of the guys got the whole restaurant including the staff to sing happy birthday. Was pretty funny. She was devastated though! hahah I always end up getting the same thing! I can’t help it, it’s just so yummy! But i do taste bits of what everyone else gets and it all tastes nice. I get the South Indian Garlic Chili Chicken with Pilau rice, and usually share a Vegetable Paratha. The spices and flavours are so good and the chicken is cooked to perfection, i always end up eating past my ‘full point’ and have to undo the top button on my jeans and control my breathing! Its worth mentioning too that this place has a good Vegetarian Menu, and they will happily put different things together if requested. The only thing that’s a bit annoying is that the Bombay Leaf is an unlicensed restaurant, it still serves soft drinks etc, but can be annoying if you get there and forgot. It’s not a massive deal though as there is a 24 hour Tesco on Dalmarnock Road, or a wee Off Licence on Hamilton Road called ‘Happy Approach’. Happy Approach is about 2 mins walk away, and the Tesco is about 5 – 10 mins walk away. On the upside though Bombay Leaf don’t charge for corkage. Bombay Leaf also do Take Away and offer a delivery service, it costs a wee bit more than other take away Indian food places in the area but its well worth it. The cost for eating in is about average for an Indian restaurant. If your coming by train get off at Rutherglen and walk on to the Main Street and you’ll see it(this map is wrong just now but I’ll get Chris on it!!)

My wife and I love Indian food and we have been sampling Indian food for over 30 years. Having a fairly recently opened Indian restaurant local to us was too much temptation. We booked up and looked forward to our meal in this non-licensed restaurant. On arrival, we noted the friendly staff and a spotlessly clean environment. The spiced onions and poppadums were fresh and tasty. I tried the Lamb Karachi Bhoona and my wife is a sucker for a nice Korma or Chasni, but went for the Korma on this occasion. The lamb dish was superb and the same can be said for the Korma. The food was beautifully cooked. We have been back several times as a couple, with friends and also with family and on each and every occasion there has been no negative comments about the food or staff. The food is always beautifully cooked and always full of great taste sensations. Even the prices are great value and we just love the service. We always bring along our own alcohol and there is never a corkage charge. If you are in Glasgow and want an Indian meal away from the usual curry valley then give this a go. You will not be disappointed. Be warned though as this place is addictive.

Great deal late afternoon, have a 3 course meal for £8.95. Went in here with a mate. About 5pm. Saw it was busy and this to me is a good sign, Got handed the 8.95 menu when we sat down, A immense choice of meals. I had a chicken korma and it was lovely, My mate had had a chicken tikka dish and he said it was superb. the starters where mixed pakora, we had ice cream at the end. After a couple of drinks the bill was 26 quid, which was excellent. Not only a great meal, but the staff are really nice as well, cant do enough for you.
