What a lovely little café! I was a little upset when he advised me they had no chai that night but I was cheered up immediately when I was asked to roll the dice– simple things! So if you order a tea, coffee or hot chocolate(which I went for) then you can roll their big chunky dice and if you get a double 6 your drink is free! I think that’s a wonderful idea :) The hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows was nice, not too fancy, and fairly priced. We had reserved the upstairs for the lovely Clare S’ book club, and it worked wonderfully. Albeit there were less of us this month, but still 6 people comfortably chatting for an hour is a good start. It was a nice comfy area, not unlike a living room, drinks were nice and reasonably priced, and due to its size everything was very convenient! I can’t wait to go back next month :)

I visited bennu last night as part of Unilocal’s bookgroup. It was my first time visiting here and i was lucky to grab a parking space right outside — result! I was impressed to see advertised on the menu gluten free bread options as part of their sandwitch deals. I did ask if they had any gluten free cakes but sadly they didnt. We had the upstairs area reserved for our meeting but there were some people still sat there after our«requested» time had started. This is the only reason i have not given this place 5 stars especially as there were plenty of seats available downstairs.

A new opening on Woodlands Road where Café Phoenix was, I was keen to check it out to see what’s changed. I like the look from outside — sleek and modern, however the décor inside doesn’t really match and it’s more homely/cosy rather than modern. It’s been given a lick of paint, the books are gone(not sure if they’re upstairs as I didn’t go up there) and the menu has been changed. I was just in for a tea and cake, so I can’t say much about the food. I had a pot of tea and a Portugese Tart, both of which were perfectly fine and quite cheap. The menu is pretty typical of what you’d expect — sandwiches, panini, wraps with typical fillings, soup, and cakes which look similar to the ones Café Phoenix used to have. They’re also doing BYOB(and can) nights on a Friday and Saturday night which seems like a good idea, you have to pay for food to join in the fun. I’ll definitely be back to check out the upstairs area and food though, as the place still has the cosy vibe that Café Phoenix did. And they still do the«roll double 6s for a free coffee» promo. Note: Café Phoenix was run by a friend of mine which is why I never reviewed it!
