Let’s get one thing straight right away, this is not a cake shop owned by the most famous man in the world. I mean, the name is spelt wrongly for one — the US president only has one «r» in his first name. And it’s a cake shop. In Maryhill. I haven’t had it confirmed, but I think I can safely say Chic Charnley remains the most famous man ever to have owned a business in this neck of the woods.
But don’t let that disappointment put you off. Despite the somewhat understated shop frontage, this family-​run business has been adding a bit of sparkle to celebrations since the days of Barack Obama being little more than some guy with a cool name.
Acquired by family-​run business, Cakes by Paige, owner Lesley Ross is an award winning designer who can turn her hand to just about anything.
Like all custom-​made cakes, they’re not cheap but then again, they’re for those celebrations in which a couple of candles stuck in an Iceland own-​brand sponge cake are just not going to do.
No, you’re paying for class, and I can guarantee the only disappointment you’ll have with a trip to Barrack is discovering staff rarely answer a question with «YES WE CAN».
