Really enjoyed my first visit to The Avalon, for two reasons [A] due to Grupon not confirming my booking the staff were not expecting us, BUT not a problem as we were told by Michelle who quickly had us seated and our order taken.[B] The food was really good, the service was terrific, friendly young guy who brought our order could not have been nicer to us. So if a warm welcome and good food is what your after,+ [free wifi, which my son made use off] then i have no hesitation, in saying its well worth a visit, as i Will be going back. Edward

The Avalon bar has opened and closed on several occasions since I moved to the area. They seem to want to shrug off the old mans pub image that the bar had without success, it takes a little more than a tin of emulsion from b&q to achieve that. I’ve come here on several occasions probably four times in seven years that l have lived in the area, but there has been nothing here to make me want to come back. An un educated person will always ask the most daftest question ever and assume if you are not Glaswegian your polish, there does seem to be karaōke at the weekends but the bar is still empty.

I used to live on St Vincent Street within about 2 minutes walk of the Avalon during my student days, but never actually went in once. Like many young moth-like students I favoured the bright lights of Sauchiehall for most of my imbibing. A few weeks ago I broke my Avalon duck. We’d been on a recapture-our-youth pub crawl one Friday afternoon, taking a half day off in pursuit of fun and ribaldry. We’d been to a few places along the increasingly popular Finnieston strip. In one bar, upon hearing the relaxing tones of Roxy Music’s «Avalon» we immediately decided to reroute along Kent Road to the eponymous bar. It’s a curious wee place with a main room, and a large-ish side room with a wee hole in the wall providing access to the bar staff and their wares. In our lubricated state we noted with excitement the microphone and sound system being assembled in this room, and were already planning our karaōke selections. Unfortunately though, the microphone and sound system would be used only by the chap setting them up; he was a pub singer, and proceeded to belt out big band standards, taking requests with zeal, one man accompanied by only a bontempi backing track and the occasional applause of a tiny but deferential crowd. It was actually excellent fun; other than us only a small group of old ladies on a bowling club night out were present. One of our number spent a far greater length of time slow dancing with them than is probably appropriate. The pub is pretty unremarkable I suppose, but you know when you stumble across something a little unexpected and feel glad that you did? Well, this was one of those times, and needless to say, the Avalon provided the final destination for our pub crawl!(Also, please note there was no hanky-panky or anything between my friend and the old ladies, it was just good old fashioned fun).

This is a funny one. Located just across the road from the Mitchell Library this wee pub looks and feels like a local bar rather than a 2 come one, come all” kind of place. I popped in here on the basis of the«free wifi» sign on the window, more out of interest than necessity(it just seemed like an odd place to have WIFI). Yeah, so on entering i was greeted with the«lets all look at the door as one ans stare at the newcomer»…eeeek. I was then faced with the dilemma, should i look like a tube and ask about the WIFI [adopt west end accent] do you have WIFI good bar steward? Screw it, i needed to do stuff so i asked and was informed that they did. Decent enough place, friendly staff, but i just felt as if i was intruding a wee bit.
