When the boy, told me to avoid this place because I’d end up annoyed and none too happy with the staff, or indeed, the selection of products; I thought this was a challenge. However, after being in here a few times, I can tell you that it clearly wasn’t. The shop is dingy, a little on the dirty side and there is an abysmal selection of crisps, confectionery and frozen microwave dinners(e.g. three minute microwave pizzas). You’ll also find only some of the products have prices. This may have been an oversight, though, I think it was more of a moneymaking trap for the merry drinkers. Meanwhile, the staff certainly, are not entirely pleasant. This is hopefully through too many drunken fools, although it is annoying when you get tarred with the same brush for no reason. As Maureen said, there’s a much better 24 hour shop just a few minutes walk away on Great Western Road and by gum — it’s worth the walk.

I guess the fact this shop is 24 hour should make it really convenient but I hardly ever stop by this place. It went seriously downhill after the staff members changed, the post office left and a strange looking mobile phone counter was set up at the back. Not sure if any shop needs so much mobile phone paraphernalia. 24⁄7 also offers a pretty dire selection of crisps. Every newsagent should offer at least one type of 10p crisp. There are also no decent big bags bar one or two flavours of Kettle Chips. There is a much better shop about a five minute walk away on Great Western Road,

As someone who remembers the opening of a 24 hour shop for the first time in this location, I’m well placed to comment on the difference it has made to the lives of Westenders. The first thing that springs to mind is that it’s given us somewhere to go to get crisps at 3am. And well, that’s about it. But you know, that’s good enough for me and although the prices in this shop are slightly above average, its prime location at the top of Byres Road ensures its handy for a large chunk of the West End, ranging from Queen Margaret Drive to Great Western Road. The shop is probably at its busiest when the hordes from next door neighbour, Oran Mor, come stumbling out, willing to do whatever is required for a packet of Monster Munch. At these times, generally between 1am and 2am, the crowd can be a little raucous but it’s in a busy enough area for this not to be too much of a problem.
