This is a good pub to head to for any sports. It’s a fantastic place to head to for a Scotland game, always packed and a great atmosphere. As a bar, the drinks selection is good, quite a wide range of draught beers, recently added some premium beers like brewdog and goose island. There’s often some good promos on making it good value for money. The food is standard pub grub style. Good without being amazing. It’s ideal if you’re in to watch sports.

Great pub to watch sports, the place is plagued with tv’s so there’s low risk of not getting a place to watch the game comfortably, there’s even one on the tables outside the bathroom. The ambient is good and staff are really friendly and attentive. Also there is a nice selection of wines, beers and cocktails, although not the biggest, there’s something for any taste. The hot dog is pretty good, not the best, but still enjoyable and it comes with a nice side of chips. The only thing I could complain about Coopers is that there’s a weird smell sometimes that I relate to a used bathroom, but overall it’s a nice place to enjoy a football match and a pint with some friends.

I have frequented Coopers many a time over the years. On the whole, Coopers is fine; if you need a quick and/or cheap feed, there are plenty of reasonably priced dishes and deals to keep you sated. If you’re also looking for somewhere to grab a quick drink or some cheap drinks then Coopers is also pretty reasonably priced. Coopers, however, just lacks in atmosphere. The staff is mainly populated by bored-looking students, and for some reason the whole bar just reeks of rotten fish! Maybe this is just when I’ve been here recently but there’s something seriously weird with that! Coopers: fine for its purpose but don’t expect miracles.

This was a bit of a quick stop off after a long, hungover walk in the West End. We gratefully trudged in here, proceeded to order St Mungo shandies and a couple of pints of juice — told you we were hungover! It’s a lovely large space, big TV’s showing sports during the day but seems to have a bit of a mixed clientele. People in for a quiet Saturday afternoon drink mixed with a group of about 20 who were obviously kicking off their Saturday evening drinking nice and early. I’d like to pop back, give it a bit more of a go.

Great bar for watching sporting events and drinking craft beers. Was here to watch the 6 nations this weekend, great atmosphere despite Scotland losing. One day I’ll be there to get my free pint. Good range of craft beers including some local ones.

Nipped in here for a bite, and it was packed. You have to order at the bar and provide your table number, which was amazingly efficient and simple. Service was very prompt, despite how absolutely packed it was. Beer was nice and cold, food was really good, and bathrooms were clean!

In my student days I actually lived just around the corner when it was called bar Oz and back then it was near impossible to get served. Days have changed since belhaven have taken over the lease. With the drinks above average and the food strangely acceptable. On my visit it was the only day that l forgot to take my phone so couldn’t take any photos of the food. Chicken wings, a burger and a pint was well under £14 and that’s real value. With as many TV sets here as curry’s you will always be facing a TV set no matter where you sit, but perhaps not the toilets.

If Coopers was only a pup it would be a 4 or 5 star. Its a great place to watch a game and has a really good atmosphere. The food is ok and thats what puts this place at a 3 star with me. If you need a place for a pint or 2 with your friends i highly recommend Coopers and if you need a bit after its not bad but not the place to go to for supper.

Coopers has a bit of a Wetherspoons-y vibe. On the plus side though, not much of a Wetherspoons-y crush. I know it gets really busy some nights, or if there is sports on, but the food is otherwise cracking. They have a decent selection of ales, lagers and ciders, as well as wines and spirits, so no danger of not finding something to your tastes, and it has the added benefit of being ideally placed to watch angry drunks get KB’d from Viper across the road.

I mistook Coopers for a Wetherspoons as it’s a similar kind of place — large, comfy, plenty of beers in the fridge and cheap food. However, our experience wasn’t that great. We’d popped in for lunch and ordered two reasonably-priced meals. I had a chilli, which was OK if a little dry. Spicy, though. The wife ordered ham, egg, peas and chips. She actually received ham which was definitely on the point of turning, eggs that weren’t cooked properly, no peas and curly fries. After battling with it for a while, she gave up. It wasn’t even a particularly busy lunchtime — there couldn’t have been more than half a dozen people in the place and none of them had ordered food. To their credit, when the staff member who collected our plates enquired as to why my wife had left so much he was back with a full refund within a minute. Not somewhere we’d eat again, though I’d still go in for the beer.

From what I’ve seen of the pubs of Glasgow so far, this one seems to be pretty standard. Decent food, decently priced drinks. When I was here around Christmas they had a warm mulled cider, which was lovely. It’s not the first place I’d choose for a drink or meal, but I’ve got no problems meeting up here when others are making the plans.

Aye so Coopers then. Well on this occassion we met a friend who was waiting for other friends and thought while myself and Ian were in the area we would swing by for one. Well little did we know there would be some violinists and an accordion player playing some Scottish reels. It was a Saturday night, so busy we expected especially with them students types but not was the live music. A voice on a mic started encouraging people to the dance floor, eh… what dance floor pal? Suddenly the pub was a mass of kilted lads… oh hello, and lassies, swooshing aboot to the Gay Gordons. I ken it had been Burn’s Night the night afore so I’m guessing the partying was still going on like.(Ooft got all East side there). Coopers is alright, it’s got tasty food and drinks, service is good but I would avoid like the plague if the fitbaw(football/soccer) is oan. Well unless you like the football. This does put me off a bit about the place. Best seats are up on the mezzanine level but can be sometimes reserved for parties. Btw there’s a mezzanine level if you wanna reserve for a party. Good pub, good location, only a hop, skip and a set of lights from Kelvinbridge underground. Drink, food, seats, big screen tv, loads of tvs and a mezzanine. Check? Sorted!

A fairly standard Wetherspoons style pub, which has lots of space and good selection of food and drink on offer. The location and the provision of a mental amount of tellies make this a good place to watch sporting events, but despite the size, it does get pretty damn full! I’ve been in here a lot — for a quiet pint, to watch the football, to have some food — and it’s managed to serve all of those purposes reasonably well. Quite often the problem with large pubs is they can lack atmosphere, which this place does during the day. The food is reasonable and pretty standard pub fare. The staff are friendly and in those busy periods work their collective arses off! This place is not inspiring, but serves a few purposes and does so without much fuss.

Few things to say about this place. Your standard Scottish pub. Much like a Wetherspoon’s but with a pinch more variety. The food is decent, but the standout is the footie. Tons of screens and quite a bit of room to watch the games.

After having known about this place for a long time but not having needed a sports bar necessarily, the need finally arose yesterday and I went there to see the two Euro 2012 games. In terms of atmosphere, it was first class considering Scotland doesn’t participate; loads of Italians and Spaniards around for the first game and the bar properly exploded at the goals. I was surprised how quickly I was served despite the masses of people in the downstairs area. The prices are very decent. My home-made potato wedges were a little too home-made for my taste(massive and not that well spiced). But they had a lot of screens, excited fans, and the staff have, for some reason, decided to support Spain — love the place.

Heavens! Popped in here the other day to watch the Manchester derby and holy busy! With the neighbouring Wise Monkey having suffered from sky box failure, this place benefited to the tune of an ass load of people. The result was a packed out joint where personal space was thrown out the window. ‘Oh hey, that’s my bum. Yeah, dude you’re totally touching my bum. Yip still touching. Still touching. Yeah, we should probably exchange numbers right about now’ Despite the mentalness and the resulting 10 min wait to get served at the bar, the staff actually dealt with the situ very well indeed. Slammed as they were, they kept it going. Retained good customer service and tried their best to serve folks in some sort of order. It’s still not my kinda joint and I’d probably have went to the Monkey had the sky been working. But hey, this place stepped up and delivered. Oh, and kudos for carrying St Mungo on tap. This I like to see.

I went here mainly because it used to be Chimmy Chungas, an 80’s Glasgow stalwart pub. Robbie Coltrane and Emma Thompson met in the Old Havana décor for the classic Scottish series«Tutti Frutti». Now it serves as a centrally placed pub on Great Western which has both locals and visitors as customers. The interior is designed for the weekend night time crowd when it gets busy and it seems a little lifeless when unfilled on a weekday lunch time. Convenient and reasonable. Find yourself on Great western, this is as good as any. Get yourself off Gt Western(Byres, Gibson, Central) and your options increase exponentially.

Wow. There’s an unexpectantly mixed bag of Coopers reviews! I didn’t really think there would be — for a pub attempting to cater to all tastes and ages, it does pretty well. It offers plush seating, warm lighting, function hire, Sky Sports coverage of most major sporting events and affordable food. It’s open, wide and airy in the summer, cosy in the winter. They have a vast selection of ales that keep the old faithfuls happy, and vodka mixes on offer for people as a precursor to the Viper over the road. I hear what people are saying about its originality, and would agree there’s nothing particularly unique about it. But what I do like about it is it’s reliable, the service is speedy, the staff are friendly, it’s in a great location, the music isn’t too intrusive and there are enough tables so you’re never going to be caught short. It may not have the vibe of cool but it’s comfy, and for a pub of this size and stature it’s also rather homely. It’s a good meeting ground for a few drinks at any time in the day and it’s a safe place to bring your kids if you’re having lunch. It may not be a pub with a buzzing atmosphere but with friendly staff and a hubbub of activity, there’s no real cause for complaint. As far as pubs go it’s a Jack of all Trades and a safe bet for a neutral night out to please all sorts of characters. Did I mention they do bangin’ potato wedges for 2 quid?

If Wetherspoons had a baby with somewhere nice. A lovely lovely place that has alot of open space with high ceilings that sits on the corner of Great Western Road. Nice for a quiet wee lunch upstairs out the way, the sort of place that provides a good backdrop for a nice time rather than doing all the work by giving you a good time. Good value for money.

I didn’t even know Coopers existed until a couple of weeks ago. I’ve been down this area often enough but I’ve just never really noticed it — it doesn’t stand out. Maybe it’s because of the close proximity of the Viper, which directs attention to the opposite side of the street. Or maybe its just because its a fairly unremarkable bar, hence the reason I’ve never heard anybody talk about it before. Unremarkable is definitely the word. There was certainly something lacking in the atmosphere when I was in Coopers. Maybe it was because with it being such a comfortable and spacious pub, you expect it to be absolutely bustling with people, when in fact it was in fact quite quiet. It is a really big place but I think that the fact there is so much space between the tables and such a big bar kind of kills the atmosphere a bit. In saying that though, it is quite a relaxing place, it has nice décor, a cool balcony area and there is some good big TV screens for watching the footy, with live Sky games being regularly shown. The drink prices are quite reasonable too — £5.81 for a pint of Stella and a Tennents. There is quite a mixed crowd but a good bit of student activity. In for the cheap drinks perhaps?
