Every town should have a Poundstretcher! This large store is situated just up Stoney Street, a short stroll off the main Market Place. In it you will find the usual arrany of discount bargains of all kinds — stationary and cards, garden furniture, sweets, bathroom products, clothes, toys, kitchenware, gardening tools, books, beauty products, biscuits, school items and clothing — the list goes on. Great for cut-price garden furtniture and luggage, and handy for sweet treats for the kids and super-economy Christmas and other seasonal cards and novelties, selection boxes, Easter Eggs etc. The clothing section is not what you’d call Designer-goods, but for basic jeans and tops and underwear(if you can find the right size) it’s usually possible to bag a bargain. Likewise with branded and other household cleaning items. In their sales you can pick up really nice ceramic/dining ware and mugs for an absolute snip, so always pay a visit during the January Sales. Be aware that it’s not the most accessible shop for anyone with snall children/buggies or walking difficulties. The entrance floor has a stepped area leading down from it, a stepped area leading up to another floor, with yet another stepped area leading up to the side-level floor. Plus the entrance floor has a very high steep flight of stairs to the very top floor. It’s quite a maze, and fascinating for a browse if you don’t have any movement/stair climbing problems and are not juggling small children. But definately a really good-deal store, and always worth popping in to if you have time to see what speciality bargains are to be had any particular week.
