Had a really wonderful experience. Came on a winter Sunday night, so no one sitting outside. We were seated pretty quickly and the staff were really helpful and attentive. The décor was nice, felt like a boathouse without seeming like a tacky theme. Most importantly the food was spectacular. My boyfriend had a pork roast, although the waitress did say they often sell out of it much earlier in the day. I had the Korean style spicy aubrgine and roast beetroot curry. It was obvious that the vegetarian options were well thought out(there are three) and not just thrown on there. Look forward to visiting in the summer even though it will likely be much busier.

Well another fantastic looking pub in an ideal venue however don’t judge a book by its cover! Bad service, poor quality food and over priced for what you get. Worth a visit however especially on a mid summers day just to sit by the lake and get bitten by the knats! All in all over priced, under staffed and if I do go back it’ll be for the outside decking and a pint.

Lovely little pub-style restaurant, with plenty of outside decking by the lake. With most meals priced under a tenner and excellent portion sizes, it’s ideal for an affordable afternoon in the sunshine with friends. I had the tastiest belly pork here, with perfect crackling, root mash and a dessert of chocolate and orange(with real orange bits!) brownie torte. Overall it was delicious. The service was slightly slow, but they admitted they were understaffed that particular night so I’m not sure if it’s usually like that.

Freezing cold. Slow service. When my food arrived — a brocoli /cauliflower & cheese gratin — it was late to the table(~5 minutes after my friends food) & fresh from the microwave. Also, lacking the cheese — although apparently it’s normal. I’d never want to go back there again. There are much better places to go to eat. I’m sure it would be nice to have a beer /drink during the summer, but make sure you eat elsewhere.

A large pub right on the edge of Fleet Pond. Great in summer as the deck sits on stilts over the pond itself. Large inside seating space with lots of nooks and open fires in Winter. Large selection of wines and better-than-average pub food. Lots of car parking out front

Seems to be mainly pub/restaurant rather than just a pub as I think all tables were eating dinner here. Food is mixed, I had the fish special which was anything but special and no way worth even half the price. My boyfriends other fish dish was quiet nice. I definately lucked out. Bill was expensive for what it was.

The food is always good here — better than the other pubs around town. Although it’s often busy(so try and arrive early) the service is still good. Best to sit outside on the decking over the lake on a hot day. It’s just been taken over by new management, so watch this space!

This pub has a lovely setting out on the lake, there’s lots of parking if you’re not drinking but if it’s not a lovely sunny day there isn’t really any other reason to visit. The outdoor seating area is very nice, the view of the lake is lovely and it’s very peaceful being set a little out of the middle of Fleet. The food is not good, it’s typical of a major pub chain, the meals taste like the mass-produced processed ready meals that they all seem to do. I once had a tuna melt in there that was completely inedible as they had heated it up in a microwave which had turned the baguette into a brick. More expensive and one step up from Wetherspoons.

A nice Chef and Brewer pub/restaurant right by Fleet Pond, which has decking going out to the pond. It’s very pleasant to sit outside in the summer months. Inside it is spacious, often quite busy, with a nice atmosphere. Good food at reasonable prices and a good range of beers.

Competent restaurant /pub with good food, reasonable prices. Décor is good albeit a bit ‘same as all the other gastro pubs’. At least compared to what it was when it was called Dakotas(the bar actually was a sliced up aeroplane) The best bit is the decked area overlooking the lake which is very pleasant to sit at during lunch. Popular at lunchtimes with the local business community it can get very busy meaning you have to wait too long for your food.

Great place to have as a local especially during the summer where the stilted decking goes out over the lake, you can sit there for ages enjoying the sun and a drink(in moderation naturally) When I first moved to Hampshire The heron on The Lake was in its previous incarnation as some kind of TGI style cocktails and burgers diner, it wasn’t good. However a few years ago it went through a pretty big make over and is now a very nice place to go to eat and drink. It’s often busy on a weekend as you get into early evening but if you’re happy to sit and have a drink a table usually frees up. They made a good call to revert to table service rather than bar orders and that makes it a much nicer eating experience as the staff are always friendly and helpful. There’s probably a raft full of pubs like this throughout the UK, but it’s close to home and it’s always served me and the family well over the past few years
