Ok, I admit it. The food wasn’t BAD. In fact, it was pretty okay. It was the service that got us. I mean, sure, we knew enough not to walk into a Little Chef and expect a lot. We’ve been there, done that before. But sometimes you just want a proper English breakfast on the road at 2:00pm. You know? And so you go in and you just hope it’s going to work out. And when it doesn’t, you know you shouldn’t have let yourself hope for anything to begin with and that you’ve only yourself to blame. See, we order food. And the dude is clearly the guy in charge. And he doesn’t seem that bright and he doesn’t write down the order. But he’s friendly and you think… maybe he’s just one of those guys who can remember that sort of thing. So we order. The food comes, and my partner’s order was wrong. Instead of no tomato, he got extra. A veritable cornicopeia of tomato overflowed the plate. Instead of getting 2 slices of bacon, he got 1 and a nibbly bit of bacon. No extra sausages as ordered. Toast instead of fried slice. It was just wrong. And nobody was around to complain to about this. We tried to flag down the person who had taken our order, but it was like he was wearing special«I can’t see customers waving» glasses. And we were one of two tables of people in the entire place. He did come over in the end, blamed it rather rudely on the cook and after my partner had finished his meal, brought out the fried slice. Ooookay. Well, fine, maybe we’ll get some dessert. Only, once again, no amount of waving got this guy’s attention. He studiously ignored us until we finally gave up and went to pay. My partner expressed his dissatisfaction and dude had nothing to say about it. Just stood there with pursed lips seething angrily at us. Needless to say, we won’t be back.
