I went here with a friend as a wee pre cinema snack and catch up, you can’t talk in the cinema seemingly, who knew! If your a fan of the likes of Wagamama then this place won’t disappoint, the food is well prepared, nicely laid out and the service is quick, we had some Ebi Gyoza which were, crisp and bursting with flavour I then had the Chicken Ramen soup with the udon noodles, which was very filling and had me practicing my chopstick skills to get the noodles out and into me without wearing half of them, all part of the fun though. Price was very reasonable and location, well it’s a stones throw from the centre of the town with a good car park just along the road from it opposite The Hole in The Wall.

I cannot believe this place is 5 mins down the road for me and it’s taken 6 months of living here to get in and try it! I’m super pleased I did! It’s a café style place, with bench seats and quite relaxed. We were all starving by the time we got there… so hungry in fact that I forgot to take a photo before inhaling the sushi! But it was yum I can assure you :) We got 6 avocado maki 2 pieces of salmon nigiri and 6 yasai gyoza. Amazing. The Maki was a little sweeter than usual, and there were only two salmon pieces, but the gyoza were probably some of the best I’ve ever had, talk about melt in your mouth! Mmm! I ordered Kyatsu Curry, as per usual, and it was magnificent. Again the curry was a little sweeter than I have come to expect, but different is good. The chicken was great, and the carrots and potatoes were inside the dish of curry. The only thing I would have changed was perhaps the veg could have been a little softer. We will definitely be returning! Every dish that came out of the kitchen looked mouthwateringly divine! The staff were lovely and helpful, there was a TV showing a documentary of a new parent panda and the décor was nice. It was a little on the loud side, but it was packed!

Went here the week it opened — years ago! — and finally went back this week with family. shared the sushi platter and had the sumo ramen in chilli base. menu was extensive, and even my mum — who had not had japanese food before — found things to order which she enjoyed. value for money was definitely good. sushi very fresh and well-made, rice: fish ratio a little high but that is nitpicking. my ramen bowl was a VERY generous portion indeed. tempura prawns giant! boyfriend said his beef was a bit chewy, my mother’s beef was nice though. One disappointment for me was my jasmine tea was a teabag, not leaves, I like a proper jasmine tea. service was good. will go back.

Sumo is a real gem. Junior and I are regulars when I’m in the shire. We went here on Xmas eve and had the sushi for 2 which is juniors favourite. The selection on the platters is varied and great if you can’t decide what to order from the large selection. The food is always well presented and looks fantastic. The staff are friendly, attentive and service is good without being too much. It’s not just sushi on the menu. There’s a fantastic selection of noodle dishes, fish and curry. I’d recommend the chicken katsu curry or the Sumo yakiudon if you’re not a fan of sushi.

Sushi is something I’ve wanted to try for a long time and since my flatmate speaks so highly of Sumo, I decided to join him for dinner here. Whilst, I’ll be honest, I was hesitant about my first experience with raw fish, I went in with an open mind and the attitude that I’d try everything put before me! So, the platter we had to begin was a perfect way to ease me into sushi. Everything was freshly prepared and at £10.90, it really is a steal with a variety of options.(Although sushi is still new to me, it was an interesting experience and one I’d definitely love to try again!) We then opted to get 2 courses each which came in at just under £10.(I’m sure these deals run until 7.) I ordered the sesame chicken toast to start which was definitely my favourite part of the meal. It was succulent and full of flavour and the chicken itself was perfectly tender. I seriously could eat them all day! For main, I choose the chicken ramen soup with a garlic base, although you can also choose from chilli and plain. This dish was delicious but by this point I was stuffed.(You win, Sumo!) The chicken, again, was so tender and the ramen soup was warming and wholesome. — I just wish I could have ate more of it! For the amount we ate and the quality and freshness of the food, Sumo was great value for money. The style of the restaurant is in line with authentic sushi bar style with wooden tables and benches with an accompanying chilled atmosphere. In terms of service, we had barely any wait time and staff were great, really friendly and welcoming! I just can’t fault my experience. 5 stars, Sumo! You deserve it!

Food is always well presented and very tasty. Service is quick and friendly. Car parking is quite close. So if you fancy a quick Japanese meal you can either sit in or use the takeaway option. In short Sumo Falkirk is well worth a visit

I absolutely love Sumo, definitely one of my favourite sushi restaurants. The décor is great, relaxed atmosphere to enjoy eating in. I’ll usually go for a sushi starter or some seafood noodles for my main. Everything on the menu looks delicious so it never makes my decision any easier, I’ll just need to keep going back until I’ve tried everything. If you’re looking for bargains then try their«Lunch Special» which is one started and one main course for $ 6.80. If you’re looking for something early evening then they also have an «Early Bird Special» where you can choose one started and one main for $ 12.50. The offers are on a restricted menu but there’s still plenty to choose from and it’s actually easier looking at a smaller menu because I could take forever picking what I want from the main menu. The staff are always very friendly and I like the fact that this restaurant seems really involved in the local community with plenty of thankyou notes from local school groups and businesses

Falkirk may not be your first stop in Scotland on the hunt for Japanese cuisine, but as a regular who’s been coming here since it opened, I can vouch for it’s quality. There’s nothing too out of the ordinary on the menu, and no bento boxes, but the quality is excellent, the service friendly, and the quirky Japanese atmosphere spot on. All in all it’s far better than mos of the sushi bars in the big cities, and does a fantastic, crispy Katsu in a wonderfully nippy curry sauce. You even get a free keyring, and the male /female signs on the toilet doors are comedy gold. Top notch all rund.

Imagine my surprise when I spotted a Japanese restaurant in Falkirk. I grew up in Auckland, New Zealand, a city with a significant Japanese population and even more significant Japanese tourist trade, so I’ve eaten a lot of sushi, generally prepared by Japanese chefs with freshly caught fish. I’m no expert, but I know decent sushi when I taste it(and I’ve tasted a lot of not so decent stuff down the years). Sumo certainly matched the standards of similar places I’ve been to elsewhere in the UK(Yo!, for example) and in NZ. The fish was all fresh, the rice was still moist and the slightly crispy seaweed confirmed it was freshly prepared. There were a wide range of toppings and it was beautifully presented. The cooked dishes were also well prepared with fresh ingredients and very tasty. Its good value too — about 30 quid for two mains, a shared platter of sushi and gyoza.
