Located pretty much next to Exeter Central train station is Ruby. Ruby is an upscale burger joint and there is plenty of competition in Exeter for such restaurants. Ruby’s décor is really nice. Very much molded on the US diner with a British heart with a higher quality of tables and chairs. Staff are friendly and helpful. The menu is great. I am a huge fan of salt beef and pastrami and it is tough to find in my opinion. This place does a pretty authentic Salt Beef on Rye sandwich and the burgers are well crafted and tasty. This place is by far superior to Urban Burger just down the road who let themselves down by not seasoning the patties. I queried this in there and they confirmed that they don’t season the patties. Also in Exeter is Hubbox — a new burger joint which serves a great value burger selection. Anyway — back to Ruby — Very recommended and worth a visit. Not the cheapest but good quality.

A west-country take on an American diner, specializing in burgers made from the local ‘Ruby’ breed of cow, apparently. Red leather banquettes(not sure if they’re made from the same cows) and a hipster urban feel to the décor. The burgers were good and I wish I’d tried the salt beef too. Staff were helpful and the bill was reasonable.
