Beautiful setting with walks along the Teign Gorge just alongside. The Castle is a lovely bit of architecture, inside the contents are not so interesting but the design is fascinating. For a day out with reasonable weather it is a great place for the family, with large grounds to wander and picnic in. Just avoid the shop — normal National Trust tat and not cheap.

We visited this Castle Drogo in the Summer and it was pouring with rain. You park by the shop and walk from there through the woods to the Castle. This would have been lovely if it wasn’t rainning. You are greeted at the door and shown where to go. The children were given an activity sheet to answer questions as you went around. This is a really good idea as the kids are so busy finding out the answers it gave the adults time to look around. The castle is really quite a large and takes a while to look around. It is great that you actually get to walk around the rooms and they are not all roped off. We throughly enjoyed our trip, but didn’t get a chance to view the gardens as is was so wet. There is a covered out door eating are that we had our picnic under. Great staff very knowledgable and would happily chat about the history of the castle.
